I am 25 years old from Alabama. I am going to tell you my story and how I got brought into the war. I was walking home from work. On the way home I saw propaganda that said, " don't wait for the draft, volunteer." I really thought about volunteering because my life wasn't so great at home. I was treated different here but there I think it would be different since I'm black. And also realized that this was total war, where everybody was involved. So I volunteered. I got to camp and trained. I remember us soldiers were talking about the great migration, when 6 million blacks moved to all over America. I also heard that there was war bonds. Where people can donate money to the army and get it back plus interest. Also the war industry board to help out the soldiers by other companies making equipment for the soldiers. I met a friend while I was there, and he said he wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the Selective service act, where he had to get picked for the war. He was also talking about the Schenck vs Us and the supreme court when Scheck was mad about the draft and thought it was not fair, and also the Espionage and sedition act, where you aren't supposed to talk bad about the war effort, but we do sometimes.
