         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Date:</strong> April 9, 1942-April 17, 1942</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Description:</strong> Japan went to the Philippines and forced 76,000(some were American) war prisoners to march some where near San Fernando.</p><p><strong>Outcome:</strong> There isn't an exact number of deaths but it is estimated that 2,500 Filipino soldiers and 500 American soldiers were killed. They might have died due to starvation and diseases. </p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Significance: </strong>The Philippines gain independence</p>]]></description>

Japan lost many pilots due to this battle.</p><p><strong>Significance: </strong>This battle was able to put a hold on Japans attacks. This was also a major victory for the U.S</p>]]></description>

The U.S was able to destroy Japan's best trained pilots. </p><p><strong>Outcome: </strong>The United States won against Japan. They were able to weaken Japans Naval forces.</p><p><strong>Significance: </strong>It was the endpoint of Japan's offense in the Pacific. It helped with the U.S rise in dominance.</p>]]></description>

Japan was going to make an airfield until the Allies took steps to eject Japan out. </p><p><strong>Outcome: </strong>The Allies won the battle. The Japanese lost about 24,000 men. While America lost 1,600 and there were 4,200 wounded in battle.</p><p><strong>Significance: </strong>This battle was a big turning point in stopping the Japanese into going more to the pacific.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Battle of Leyte Gulf </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Date: </strong>October 23, 1944- October 26, 1944</p><p><strong>Description: </strong>This battle was fought both in air and sea. The U.S was able to invade the Philippines after destroying Japan's fleets.  </p><p><strong>Outcome: </strong>The Allies won the battle. There were a lot of deaths on the Japanese side going up to 420,000. While on the Allie side especially the U.S navy lost about 3,000 people. </p><p><strong>Significance: </strong>This event was able to destroy Japan's Navy. By doing so the Allies were now able to have complete control over the Pacific and could invade the Philippines. </p>]]></description>

British and U.S troops landed in these places.</p><p><strong>Outcome: </strong>The Allies were able to win this battle. The deaths and injuries in this battle were pretty light. The U.S had 526 killed and 837 wounded. There were 574 British troops killed.</p><p><strong>Significance: </strong>This battle opened up opportunities against the Axis powers. It shifted the battle in their favor.</p>]]></description>

It was a battle in hopes to control the Atlantic routes.</p><p><strong>Outcome: </strong>In this battle the Allies came out victorious. The Allies lost many merchant ships and warships in this battle. They also lost about 72,200 naval and merchants.</p><p><strong>Significance: </strong>The Allies were able to use new technology to counter the attacks. This battle also allowed the Allies to secure supply routes.</p>]]></description>

The allies had 43,000 casualties while the Germans suffered 30,000 casualties.</p><p><strong>Significance: </strong>This battle led to Rome's liberation. The ones involved were the U.S marines and the Japanese army.</p><p><strong>Outcome: </strong>The U.S won the battle. There were about 26,000 casualties on Americas side and only a few out of 20,000 troops survived on the Japanese side.</p><p><strong>Significance: </strong>The U.S was able to drop more bombs on the Japanese side.
