We were given a hard drive and told that's what we were going to be storing our work on and to keep them safe. We then opened Adobe Premiere and were taught how to save files to our hard drive instead of our general area and how to start up a new project. Also how to import footage onto the project. Then we were shown the different tools that edit the footage and if we only wanted the media or video only part of a clip. We then created little videos using all the skills we learnt working in pairs, added effects and learnt how to export our work.

Smelly Liquid Write Up

This task that we were fronted was called 'Smelly Liquid' and what that involved was to create and design a perfume/cologne for a specific target audience and show how we could make our product different to the other famous products out there that were colognes and perfumes. This was group work so I was put in a group of three with 2 other people. We needed to create a mood board that would showcase our ideas clearly and wouldn't need much explanation or much talking and also we needed to create a audience profile that should fully state who this product is for and the Psychographics and Demographics of this person. So essentially the target audience profile and the mood board are a way of saying this is the product and this is who it's targeted for and this is why it's targeted for them. Some of the features were a bit stereotypical because when advertising you don't try to be ethical. Your main job is to try and sell the product . We had a various target audience we could choose from as they're were 6 different types of people who were the teenage girl, the student, the city lad, the housewife, the retired man & the skater boy. We decided to pick the city lad. Our advertising ideas didn't quite link up to our audience profile if I'm to be critical because the name Nostalgia and the celebrity was Lewis Hamilton. After some initial feedback there were some errors. One of them being that the name Nostalgia doesn't link to the celebrity endorsing the product who was Lewis Hamilton and also that the audience profile's age didn't match the product because the initial age range was from 26-31 but for some reason we put down 35-45. Which perplexes me as how the target audience is 35-45 but on the profile it says 25+ to probably about 30.

Advert Planning

On Tuesday we planned storyboards for our advert that we were going to shoot on Friday. The storyboards entailed how many shots we were filming and to number from 1- whatever. The shot type i.e. Medium shot, Close up , Long shot , The duration and the shot description so for example any movement or the actions that are happening in the shot. The ad has to be a minimum of 30 seconds long and I felt it would be key to include the terminology that we used to plan out the storyboard that would be the rough idea for filming. My decision was made that I would be making 4 shots that last 5-8 seconds each and the whole ad would follow the humour convention. The targeted product we would be filming would be Oasis. Here is an initial shot of the storyboard that was drawn up. The shots were numbered

20.09.2016

Advertising and Market analysis

While creating our own ad we also have to write up and analyse 3 adverts of our choice and get out the mind of a viewer just watching the ads and get into the mind of someone creating the ad and trying to sell the product. There are different types of conventions that you could use to sell your product and make it appeal to the viewer. One of them is fear, if you can put fear into the viewer then it should make them buy the product like the Corsodyl ad. Where a woman who is getting ready to go out uses eyeliner from her eyes and blood starts coming from her eyes. She ignores it but when she spits blood after brushing her teeth she starts to take notice. The tagline in the ad is “You wouldn’t ignore blood from any other part of your body so why would you ignore it from your mouth” They use a close up of the woman's tooth missing to shock you that this could happen if you don't look after your teeth and they also long shots and close ups to show the blood coming from her mouth when she brushes her teeth and the long shot is used for when she is getting ready.

20.09.2016

The second convention that advertisers use is repetition. An example of some repetition is the ad for insurance company Go Compare which in some people’s standards is one of the most annoying ads around. Where they use Welsh opera singer Wynne Evans to sing the ‘Go Compare song’ which is just really the words Go Compare, Go Compare, Go Compare over and over. The whole point of their ad is to make you think of their company so when someone asks you to recommend an insurance company or where to compare different places you instantly tell them about Go Compare and they are the first site that you think of. In one of the first go compare ads published that was 42 seconds long he sings go compare 7 times. He has been the subject of many people trying to get rid of him from the earth or hurt him like Ray Mears, Stuart Pearce & Sue Barker. The shot in the picture is a long shot of the guy singing. There were also close up shots and over the shoulder shots of the go compare man singing.

Ad Evaluation

Our first real project of the year we were assigned in media was to create a 30 second advert advertising a certain product. The product we decided to advertise was oasis the drink. You had to try and use one of the conventions that we learned in analysing and evaluating adverts which is on the previous padlet below. We decided to use the humour aspect a little bit whilst stripping the ad to the bare basics and keeping it simple as we felt we didn't want to set anything ambitious or too over the top in fear that we wouldn't get it done by the deadline. I filmed the advert and provided the voiceover and finally partially edited & Thomas who was the other guy in my group starred in the ad and also partially edited it. We were given an instruction that the ad had to be a minimum of 30 seconds but it would be better if the ad did not go over 40 seconds because you have to bear in mind the viewer that doesn't want to be sat there for a long period of time watching an ad. We would film the ad on a camera that we would get and upload the footage , save it onto our hard drive and edit on Adobe Premiere. We started filming on the Friday that the project was set and finished on the Tuesday of next week. That way we had plenty of footage and plenty of shots so we could decide which one was best to use for filming. We initially tried to film on the road but there was so much interference with too many cars coming past and the inability to hold the camera still so instead we decided to pick the footage when we filmed in the car park of the college just outside the building. We uploaded the footage , saved it onto the hard drive and started editing on Adobe Premiere. We had to go back and film extra footage when we started editing because we realised that the ad was not falling into chronological order and that the ad was running too fast and it wouldn't meet the requirements for length. Other obstacles that we had to fix were that when we editing with the voice-over footage was recorded we had to amend the volume as it was not loud enough to be heard comfortably and also that when we were playing back the ad we had to tone down the volume because the sound bar reached the maximum which meant that the sound would have cut off if we had shown the ad. We finished editing and added transitions that would fade in and out certain bits of audio and certain parts of the video and also tried to explain pretty self-explanatory what product it was that we were advertising for our chosen target audience and after that we were pretty sure that we had our advert that we believe was finished to a standard quality. Once we had presented the ad we received feedback that was filled out on our questionnaires and that has helped us to improve. Some of the feedback was not helpful and some people didn't even write on the feedback sheet as there's one person who didn't decide to on the feedback sheet write anything down. Some of the feedback i didn't even agree with and they just criticized the advert without giving any constructive criticism. A lot of people thought that the sound was distorted and that the sound of the cars driving by at the end was unnecessary but apart from that a lot of people enjoyed how simple it was and how we didn't try and go over the top.

The third convention that advertisers use to try and get you to buy their product and that is celebrity endorsement. The example i am going to use here is beats solo headphones. They use famous celebs such as Kylie & Kendall Jenner, Rizzle Kicks and even Sinitta to advertise their product. Why would they buy those headphones when you could buy bose that have been around longer. Because they have young cool celebs wearing their headphones which should make you wanna buy those headphones. There are plenty of shots like medium shot , establishing shot , close up and in the screenshot it shows a long shot of both kylie and kendall jenner looking like they're getting ready for a night out.

So we got into our group that consisted of Me , Tommy , Callum , Thomas & Fraser and after brainstorming for most of the day. We decided on a simple yet famous and effective scene that was the phone scene from taken where she gets kidnapped. We all did our separate roles in the ad. Fraser was acting as Liam Neeson on one side of the phone , Thomas was on the other side of the phone acting as the girl that was going to get kidnapped , Callum was acting as one of the kidnappers and the other one was uncredited & I was acting as the kidnapper who would pull Thomas from underneath the bed. Tommy did all of the filming and edited the whole thing. We tried to contrast as much as possible to the original but we could only go so far due to some obstacles

For our next task in media we needed to complete a task that lasts the length of 2 months. Our first part was to deconstruct 3 films of our choice from 3 different genres. My 3 genres that I chose were Comedy , Sci-Fi & Action. The first genre I’m going to analyze is Comedy and the film I am going to analyze is Borat

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJiu37oClfc
The effect on the audience I expect to have is Humour. I would expect them to laugh a lot because the genre that it is classed as is a comedy film but some of the parts might cross into another genre like drama for example or romance so this film could have good hybridity in mixing two genres together in one film. The Audience demographic or target audience in simple terms that i think would fit this type of movie is someone in the DINKY category which is an acronym for people who have double duel income and no kids yet or the EMPTY NESTERS which is an acronym term for people who are older and happily married but they're children have left home and they have more time on there hands. I expect to see this scene in the movie towards the middle because i believe that the synopsis shows Borat taking you on a tour of his life in chronological order starting from his home country in Kazakhstan and moving through America where he travels and tries to learn more about this country as he is a Journalist who has someone filming him throughout this trip. And I wouldn't expect this scene to be towards or at the end of the movie because towards the end of the movie, Borat is back in Kazaksthan and showing how 8 years on the advances in technology that are in his country that he saw when he travelled to America like LCD TV'S & iPods etc. This scene attracts and appeals to it's target audience more than it's target audiences as it does have more than one but the DINKY category (people who have dual income and no kids and can spend there money on themselves more) it will appeal to more than the EMPTY NESTERS (who are people who's kids have moved out of their parents house) who it appeals to because of the hybridity and the fact that two genres come together. There is one citation here that will show you that they cross two genres is when Borat is showing his family he shows the comedic side talking about his wife being boring and his sister being "4th biggest prostitute in Kazaksthan" and then there is romance when he says he wants to "make sexy time" with someone.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcVDMZM5XGo

The second genre I am going to analyse is Action and the movie I am going to analyze is the new movie Suicide Squad. The effect that I believe it has on the audience as someone who is analyzing and deconstructing a film scene is that it's gonna capture the audiences attention pretty quickly and it's a movie to keep the audience on the edge of their seat and root for some characters. I expect to see this scene towards the end but near the end middle when all the characters from Suicide Squad have been introduced and maybe we might have had an insight into their background/backstory and also when the characters had been given their objectives and the film plot was set out to be carried out would I expect there to be a scene where they were actually fighting their enemies. The target audience I think DC Comics were trying to catch or appeal to were people who were fans of superheroes and comic books. I don't think that they're is a specific age range that they were targeting although I think the target audience or audience demographic I think it would suit would be either a GUPPIE or a DINKY. I think that this scene can and or does appeal to it's target audience because if your a fan of action then you'll love it, If you love actors and actresses like Jared Leto , Will Smith & Margot Robbie then you'll love it. I believe this scene does appeal to it's target audience especially the way Harley Quinn fought in the action scene. The target audience demographics link to my film scene in a lot of ways. Harley Quinn's gender is female and she is a strong powerful female character that kicks ass in the film , she is of relatively young age but stuff like income and socio-economic status as an audience demographic are not really affiliated/applicable with Harley Quinn as a character in Suicide Squad.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAcZjKbm2tk

The third genre I am going to analyse is the Romantic genre and the film I am going to be analysing is Warm Bodies the film in 2013. The effect on the audience that should be present is more than one feeling as again this movie has hybridity in contrasting genres. In the movie I expect to see this scene further on in the movie not straight away as at the beginning she has a boyfriend with her although later on in the film a sort of Romeo and Juliet theme does start to appear. The target audience in this movie is for people who are coupled and who enjoy romantic movies or just people who enjoy romantic movies or maybe even people who are just coupled however niche or mass that target audience may be. They may not target one set of people as an audience but they may get them watching. But these movies can also be for an audience who enjoy zombie movies because the good thing about contrasting the hybridity of both genres is that you get types of fans who watch it for the romance , the types that watch it for the zombies and I guess the types that watch it for both. But onto the target audience demographics and I'm not sure who would fit the audience demographics for it all as it's a bit of a tricky question to fill with an answer because this movie doesn't answer to things like socio-economic status or income.

warm bodies word count was 800
10.10.2016
Warm Bodies Review
To kick-start our first proper assignment of our first term here we were doing film scenes and were later on actually going to make our own film scene from scratch on our own but first we would need to know how to deconstruct a film and in order to do that then we would need to watch a film to deconstruct it and the film we watched was Warm Bodies so this was the Warm Bodies review.

The film Warm Bodies was a contrasting picture release that complied two different types of genre in the film. The film was about a zombie (Nicholas Hoult) who didn’t remember his name apart from the fact that it started with an R so in the end was just called R and how he was a zombie drifting through this abandoned airport with other zombies which appeared to be like their own town. Meanwhile a girl named Julie (Teresa Palmer) is with her boyfriend Perry (Dave Franco) and they are fighters. Their order is by Julie’s father (John Malkovich) to go out and attack the zombies that are trying to eat the humans. There was an outbreak of a disease and that turned many people into zombies and killed others. Then when the zombies come to attack and inevitably R kills and eats Perry. R falls in love with Julie and takes her back to the zombie town and into this abandoned airplane which is sort of like his own apartment type of place and takes care of her giving her food and drink and protecting her from the other zombies. This is when Julie starts to realise that many of the other zombies might be the same and that maybe just maybe the other zombies are changing and that the word zombies is just a term used to “categorize a way of living or these people that we don’t know everything about” and that if they’re taught to love again it triggers something in them to turn human again. The characteristics are that if you were to pause the film at any random point mostly you would think that it was a zombie movie apart from when they were in the countryside just talking about the world and not really worrying about anything. The key word here is hybridity and whether or not this movie has good or bad hybridity and for me this has good hybridity the way that they can combine such a simplified story such as humans trying to extinguish zombies and combine that with the scene

17.10.2016
Planning for our movie scene
Original soundtrack ideas for the movie:
DMX- X Gon’ Give It To Ya – originally saw the song in Deadpool and decided to pinch the idea from the movie
Jamie N Commons- The Jungle – Heard in a couple of movies as final showdown music and decided to use the music
My movie plan
The plot for my movie is a hitman based movie with references on Deadpool and it is called 24 hours to kill. What happens is that the hitman called Ryan Coleman is completing his assignment and he receives his next assignment soon later who are 3 Ukranian gangsters. But word comes around to the gangsters that Ryan is going to kill them so they decide to one up him. By kidnapping his wife Mrs Coleman who is an ex hit woman and threaten to kill her within 24 hours if he does not post ransom. It is then a race against the clock for Ryan to find the gangsters and take them out and rescue his wife plus completing his assignment before it's too late. The scene that I am focusing on and also filming for this assignment is the final showdown scene where Ryan comes to rescue his wife and also comes to take out the gangsters. I have a set and also an original cast for the scene but i haven't heard back from the owner of E15 acting school which was my original location setting so I might have to revert to my secondary option which means I'll have to edit and add features in more after I've filmed my scene.

Target Audience
After using the movie review site IMDB and doing some market research on there about the famous movies that my movie has references from and what famous movies my movie is like. I have my target audience and there should be good hybridity in my film scene attracting arguably more than one type of audience but the audience that I am trying to mainly attract are people under the age of 18 mainly females but males as well but references to Deadpool and basing some of the story on the 2005 hit film Mr & Mrs Smith starring Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie then hopefully I'll attract a range of audiences from age and gender that all like the film let alone the 2-3 min scene that I am submitting for my assignment as the love story that Ryan and Lauren have should bring in the audiences of a more mature nature whilst the audiences of a younger generation should be attracted to the comedy and the action that the film gives.
Here is my plan drafted out in full on a pad before I transformed it onto Padlet

Plan for editing
My plan for editing will be to use adobe premier for most of the process to upload the footage and generally edit , cut & crop the footage plus if the footage goes over the time specified for it to be then I should be able to decrease the length and if the footage is not in the allotted time then i can increase the footage length but I might also be viewing online video tutorials on YouTube to learn how to use effects and transitions I probably didn't know where on Adobe premiere or to use other pieces of software to edit my footage. I also should be getting help from other people that i am working with on there footage to edit again either on Adobe Premiere or another piece of software for example Lightworks.

Props
Retractable Knife
3 Fake guns
1 Briefcase/manbag

Test shots
My test shots for this movie are still yet to be loaded.

Epping forest college is a good and a fun local college for you to continue your further education. We are located just off the M25 and or the M11 (just look for junction 5 off the A1168 and follow the sign post to Loughton. Keep driving til you see the big building with Higgins at the top. Drive to the road next to the building and take a left and we are on your right hand side). We are also approx 10 minutes away by Chingford Overground. Located at Debden Station. Just walk up from the station turn left walk to the bus stop cross the road , carry straight on and then cross a couple of roads before the last crossing we're right infront of you. We have many courses that are full/part time that you can possibly participate in.
