Swapping shifts

To swap shifts with another staff member, you must both work in the same zone (Adult Med Surg, Adult Critical Care, Womens & Children's, etc.) The swap must be entered into Smart Square. Once that is done, the other person in the swap will need to approve it on their profile before the swap can be viewed by Meduflex Leadership for approval.

Please reach out your designated ANM, (Emily Liner, Emily Radekopf-Cotov or Lindsey De Jesus), if you are interested in a course and unsure if the class pertains to your role/zone. They will also facilitate getting this added to your schedule!
All care team members should use the time clock when attending educational courses in lieu of submitting time sheets.

Total Joint Replacement Nursing Pathways (System)

Recently the Total Joint Replacement Nursing Pathways have been implemented for nursing within Epic. The Total Joint Pathways will help all create consistency and ensure documentation requirements are met in all areas that care for total joint patients. Below are they highlights for the Total Joint Pathways.

Omnicell Search Character Update (System)

Effective January 5, 2026, searching for medications and items in the Omnicell will now require a minimum of FOUR (4) characters.

• Why: response to a medication event and following review of best practices and national recommendations

• Items that contain special characters (dash, slash, space, etc) are being updated to have names that are easily searchable or to appear at the top of the med lists.

Items of note:

• D5W items will be updated to Dextrose5% for searching

• Keys will be found under Keys and not Key

NutriConnect Packaging Change (System)

These items are being rebranded to be called NutriConnect — a "family" of the EnFit compatible products within the Medtrition portfolio. With this transition comes some packaging changes that would be good for you to be aware of to avoid any confusion.

Evidence-Based Practice Course and Lessons (System)

The Value Institute has updated their Evidence Based Practice (EBP) Course for Healthcare Providers. This course is available to all roles and provides support as the care team members learns about the EBP process and receives active support and consultation on their EBP project. If a care team member is interested they can use the QR code on the flyer to enroll.

Epic CPM Version 2025 Upgrade (System)

On March 22, Epic will receive the CPM 20245 version. There are few key items to be aware of relating to the upgrade-

Elsevier evidence-based content will be upgrading from Version 2024 to 2025. These changes can be seen in Care Plans, Flowsheets and Patient Education
ICU long-stay patients (those who will not be discharged prior to upgrade) will need to have their care plans and education resolved before the upgrade. After go-live, they will need to be added back so they appear in the new CPM S25 version.
Between March 22 and April 6, staff will need to update their smart tools to pull in the new S25 flowsheet rows.

Universal Protocol (System)

The newly updated System-Universal Protocol (Timeout) will go live on Apil 1, 2026. This policy update impacts all areas within the MUSC Health System (MUHA, MUSCP, MCP) including RNs and Providers. You have been assigned the Universal Protocol in Action: Verifying, Documenting, and Collaborating for Patient Safety Program to complete in OurDay.

The policy revisions include the following items:

Scope: Policy applies to all MUHA/MUSCP/MCP /University of South Carolina facilities including inpatient, ambulatory and any procedural areas.
Purpose: Clarified purpose of the policy.
Definitions: Added definition for “Operative Invasive Procedure” aligns with SC Board of Medical Examiners, American Hospital Association and American College of Surgeons
Policy Section: Identifies surgeon/proceduralist as the team lead.
Operative/Invasive Pre-Procedural Consent Components:
- Written Consent: required for all operative/invasive procedures.
- Clarified that when a different service or specialty is a participant in a surgery but are not a part of or directly related to the originally consented primary procedure a new informed consent must be obtained.
Verification of Procedure: Clarified procedure for all settings.
Site Marking: Clarified steps to take when a site is marked by a surgeon/proceduralist, but the procedure is completed by another surgeon/proceduralist.
Alternatives to Site Marking: Clarified procedure when a patient refuses, or it is not anatomically feasible to mark the surgical/procedural site.
- Only approved alternative methods are acceptable by regulatory/accreditation agencies.
Implants: Added procedure for implants or special equipment.
Timeout: Clarified procedure adding roles and responsibilities for timeout.
- Occurs immediately prior to the procedure and includes the individual performing the procedure and all immediate members of the procedure team.
