The names John Rhynier Risaba but you can call me Rhy for short, kinda goes around with people on what they call me. I'm a 2nd year BSIS student who's personally a mental roller coaster, I go everywhere the wind blows me joining with strangers and turning them into friends, That's the type of person I really am, never shy and never too afraid to jump to unexplored areas of life and commit things I might regret later. Been hooked on Philippine hiphop/rap or sometimes RnB scene for as long as I can remember, jumping from artist to artist and unto different genres of music for as long as it stimulates my soul.

I wanna highlight, Hiphop/RnB for this contemporary Pop Culture more specifically o$m or (O Side Mafia), Hev Abi, Alex Bruce, & Hellmerry to name a few. Personally speaking they pioneered the modern Hiphop/RnB genre in today era in the Philippines. They painted a different image for the Philippines when it comes to this specific genre when it comes to facing it side by side with other overseas artists, finally making a bold statement and beating the "Filipino Hiphop genre is dead" allegations. What really stood out with me is the fact that though people from around the world doesn't understand the language word for word but the message and meaning of the song alone does the speaking for our local artists which totally meant that they are not just any artists that mumble rap or puts out a song just to ride a trend but the type of artists that wants to leave a mark in this genre.

The Philippine hip-hop and RnB scene, driven by artists like Hev Abi, Aljames, and DEMI, exemplifies how contemporary pop culture reshapes identity, political awareness, and media influence in society. Framing this through Semiotics, the symbols, vernacular, and themes in their music reflect social realities and amplify local narratives that resonate deeply with Filipino youth. By using street language, traditional sounds, and familiar cultural references, these artists offer an authentic portrayal of the Filipino experience, communicating messages about daily struggles, societal expectations, and marginalized voices. Their music becomes a means of identity affirmation, allowing listeners to see themselves in lyrics that challenge stereotypes, confront socioeconomic struggles, and emphasize cultural pride.

In terms of societal influence, this hip-hop and RnB wave is shifting media consumption habits, inspiring fashion trends, and impacting youth behavior across the country. The increasing visibility of artists like Hev Abi, Aljames, and DEMI on social media and streaming platforms indicates a growing demand for locally rooted content that addresses both personal and collective experiences. Additionally, their impact goes beyond entertainment, subtly encouraging listeners to question social norms, engage in discourse around topics like inequality, and explore their identity through music and style. This cultural movement has become a powerful vehicle for expression, fostering a deeper sense of pride and solidarity among fans, while simultaneously pushing the boundaries of mainstream Filipino pop culture.
