Listening is one of the biggest challenges for my students. So I have to find different types of texts to capture their interest and make it easier for them to listen. Therefore, authentic listening texts may be more suitable for my students. Course books do not often contain listening texts that grab students' attention. Also, the activities of the listening texts in the textbooks are not effective enough. When course books contain good listening material, I can use it by differentiating.

I think, yes, they are appropriate in my classroom. Especially when I look directly at the speaker or listener and make eye contact. When I do this, they know that what they are hearing is something important and that they should listen carefully. The use of gestures can also attract the students' attention.

One of the most common problems in my district when teaching English is that my students are afraid to make mistakes. During class, my students sometimes try to speak in English, but they make mistakes, stop speaking or continue speaking in Turkish. I think they feel ashamed when they make mistakes. They are afraid of being laughed at by their classmates.

I think if I give them positive feedback and put on a smiling face while the students are speaking, I encourage them. So these kinds of solutions can help me to deal with my students' language problems.

Grammar-Vocabulary

The repetition activity we did in grammar class today is the most effective suggestion for my classes. It is a useful way to make vocabulary more memorable and teach the pronunciation of that vocabulary. After teaching and modeling the vocabulary, we help students learn the vocabulary well in this way.

Teaching in a context is the best way to teach grammar than directly giving rules for my lessons. Giving students the opportunity to explore the rules themselves makes learning more permanent for them. Choosing an appropriate kind of activity is also an important point to improve learning.

Assessment-PDC Meeting

I work at a secondary school, mainly with 8 grade students. As you know, they are studying for the high school entrance exam called LGS. Almost all parents and head teachers expect us to assess students using multiple choice tests. They always focus on the final assessment and not on the learning process. So students only focus on the tests and not on the whole learning process. But as of this year, the assessment method has changed. The Ministry of Education is emphasising on assessing students' creative thinking. So I think formative assessment will become more important thanks to these changes.

I work in a province in the southeast of Turkey. The success of the students at my school is quite low and their families are quite disinterested. Therefore, as a teacher, I can only improve them through my efforts. At this point, I sometimes feel inadequate. The presence of colleagues who I can ask for help or who can give me ideas to solve my problems gives me strength. That is why it is very valuable for me to participate in this project, being a part of Professional Development Community, and meet people who have the same problems as me and with whom I can exchange ideas for solutions.
