Mother Teresa Background Information

Mother Teresa’s family was Albanian; however, she was born in Skopje, Macedonia in 1910. She was born to a family of 5 with one brother and one sister. Mother Teresa’s parents were both Albanian grocers, but she lost her Dad at the age of 9. She first became interested in helping people when she became a member of a society at her local school that focused on foreign missions and spreading religious beliefs. By the time Mother Teresa was 12, she believed she was born to help the poor. This became clearer to her in her teenage years when she learnt about missionaries that were happening in India. She left her home when she was 18 to join a community of Irish nuns who travelled to India for a mission. Mother firstly taught as a teacher in an all-girls school, before eventually becoming the principal. In 1946, she believed that she wanted to leave the life as a nun and completely dedicate herself to serving the poor. Mother Teresa then started working under the Archbishop of Calcutta helping children in need.

How has Mother Teresa encouraged an opened minded view on situations?

Mother Teresa was deeply admired as her compassionate work with the poor became extremely popular. She was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 from her work that had been spread worldwide, however she did not care so much about that as she did for helping the sick and poor. Mother never once shifted her attention away from the poor and unwell, no matter how honoured she was. This really opened the eyes of so many citizens and encouraged them to not only think about themselves in situations, but also the people around them. Mother Teresa never once thought about her life before others, this shows really compassion and I think she really set off a good feel to the community. mother teresa always had an open mind in situations and her outlook was purely to help others,

How did Mother Teresa challenge the 'Status Quo?'

Mother Teresa challenged the status quo by constantly showing care and compassion to the poor, sick and homeless. This was very unheard of as everyone tended to fend for themselves, but mother Teresa felt that she was called to help people.

Mother Teresa only cared about helping others. She never put herself before absolutely anyone. She dedicated her life to serving the poor and homeless and made sure that they were safe. She placed herself in situations where she was around unwell people majority of the time so that she could care for them, she would care for anyone and everyone in the best way she possibly could. The wellbeing of others was so important to her that he risked her well-being over it every single day, (The MY HERO Project, 2019).

Mother Teresa purely did her own work and did what she felt was right. She never once demanded that other people help her, or ordered people around. She has a caring and compassionate nature that welcomed people into the community to help her.

In my opinion, i was really inspired with how much mother put the sick and injured before herself. She wont many prizes, however she never once cared about them. Her goal, and what she liked to believe as her calling, was to help those in need and let them be able to experience the opportunities that everyone else gets to.
