My goal as a teacher is to make my classroom a safe and happy environment for all of my students. This is key for students to have a positive and enriched learning environment. Classroom rules and regulations are on the wall to ensure no misunderstanding, and also for a consent reminder of what is expected of the students in the classroom and school building. I believe in, and respect, each one of my students and find it important to learn about what subjects and interests they have. Therefore, I can incorporate these into my classroom and lessons. I want all my students to be successful and have goals, so together we can meet those goals and set new ones. Below are my student expectations for assignments, behavior, as well as the classroom rules and regulations that are seen in the classroom. There is also more information on my marble and color behavior system that will be used in my classroom.

All students will respect one another as well as their belongings. Students will listen to directions and protocols to keep them safe. Students will treat one another as they would want to be treated using nice words and actions. Absolutely no bullying is tolerated, and results of bullying that cannot be resolved immediately will require a phone call home. If appropriate to the situation, the student could be sent to the principal's office.

Students will have clear instructions, as well as due dates and times, to complete assignments and activities. Students are required to complete this work on, or before, those dates and times to the best of their ability. If homework assignments are not completed, students will have to make up that work either during free time or, if it is continuous, during recess with the teacher until the work is finished.

Marble and Color Behavioral System

This behavioral system is utilized to encourage positive behavior and eliminate negative behavior. The marble system is used both for the whole class. The color system is used for each individual student.

On my desk there are two mason jars. One is labeled Marbles to Earn, and another is labeled Earned Marbles. Marbles are moved to the Earned Jar when the class executes an activity correctly, or another teacher gives a compliment on how well the students walked in the hall, or how well they behaved during specials or recess. When the jar is full, there will be a reward such as a movie showing or other options the whole class comes up with together. Marbles can also be taken away if the class is asked to do something more than two times, or if they are having trouble walking, or keeping quiet, in the halls.

Individually, the students each have their name on the chart presented on the wall behind my desk. Hidden behind their name are colored pieces of paper; green, purple, yellow, and red. Everyday each student starts out with green. If the student is spoken to several times and does not change their behavior or action their color behind their name will be changed to yellow. If the behavior escalates, continues, or is disruptive either in the classroom, halls, lunch, or recess, the student will be moved to red. A student being moved to red results in a phone call home and, if necessary, a trip to the principal's office. If a student goes above and beyond by helping others, and therefore being a star student, the colored paper behind their name will be changed to purple. When a student’s color turns to purple, I will also inform the parents with a positive message or phone call home. The students will also be privately given an award such as a smelly pencil, a shaped eraser, or something from the prize box. To keep students’ trust, confidentiality, and respect, the colors will not be shown to the whole class. Students moved to yellow or red will be privately told. Switching the color of a student’s name will also be done in private, when students cannot visibly watch me change the color. Students can check with me to see if their colors have been changed. As stated above, they will be informed if their color has changed to yellow, and both the parents and students, as well as the principal, will be informed if their color is changed to red.

If there are any questions, concerns or thoughts on either the Marble or Behavioral System you can email me at my school email. kdepaul@school.org
