Media Literacy Campaign targeted towards teenage girls- DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU SEE ONLINE-Reflection

I created a campaign that is targeted toward teen girls about how social media can be fake, and not to fall for everything they see online. This strategy works because I used a social media campaign, a 30 second radio commercial and 2 Print ads that girls could see in magazines. All of these marketing tools are geared towards teenage girls, they tend to use social media more, and therefore would see posts on Instagram or Twitter (X). The campaign includes bright colors, and graphics that teenage girls would be drawn to. It is a marketing campaign to warn teenage girls about the dangers of social media and what it can do to one's mental health. This aligns with media literacy principles because for someone to be media literate, they must know the dangers of social media. I’ve experienced many ads telling me to take breaks and breathe, but not specifically from social media. This campaign #STOPCOMPARING #STOPTHECOMPARISON will help teenage girls spread the message to other teenage girls about how to be careful on social media in order to protect your mental health. The multiple platforms used will help them spread the message to one another and make them feel seen in a world that does not seem to value teenagers, especially girls. This strategy will work because it shows the audience the dangers of social media. Also, with using social media as a platform to advertise within itself, it shows that social media is not all bad, and there can be good aspects of it. If we spread this message, maybe more people will be self-aware of what they post or put online, and what might easily influence them. The different channels used to spread this message, radio, social media and print ads/media will reach a wider audience than just using one channel.

When you have free time, do you immediately open up Snapchat? What is it that keeps you so intrigued? The algorithm? Your favorite celebrities? What your friends ate for breakfast? TAKE A BREAK. What you see on social media is not always real and can be easily manipulated and twisted. Sometimes ignorance is bliss, and not using social media for a day or two will help you reconnect with the outside world.
