Being an African American male, one food that serves as a totem in my life is Fried Chicken. This particular food has been known by countless people and is very popular among the black community in regards to soul food. Thinking from a Durkheimian perspective fried Chicken not only my family but also the black community as a whole together. We can look back and laugh at it sometimes when people may bring it up as stereotypes at times knowing its a common type of soul food people in the community enjoy eating. However, thinking from a Marxist lens of commodity fetishism, there will be a lot of things revealed that were possibly concealed. One being the labor that goes into making chicken and the harm that is brought upon the once lively chicken throughout the processes involved.

The main reason I am taking this course this semester is because it is a prerequisite for the nursing program here at delta college. Although it might not have been in my list of courses I may desire to take if it were not a prerequisite, I am looking forward to learning all that I can about the course and taking any and all knowledge gained with me into my future career and endeavors.
