With the help of word-of-mouth, influence of friends, and specially the social media platforms, milk tea easily became trending and urges the people to taste it at least once in their life from the posts or reviews they see online. Milk tea shops have skyrocketed all over the country, offering various flavors, toppings, and customization options. Milk tea is not only a beverage, but also a social and cultural symbol, as it reflects the Filipino taste for sweetness, novelty, and diversity.

I will discuss how the spread of Milk tea in the Philippines is achieved based on the Uses and Gratification Theory as a pop culture phenomenon in the Philippines. Uses and gratification theory is a communication theory that explains how people uses or consumes different kinds of media to satisfy their needs or desires. The uses and gratifications theory is already been used in the 1940s to understand the behavior of the mass population in taking medias and such. The internet provides a new and deep field for exploring this theory. Most of the people nowadays has access to the intern through, cellphones, tablets, or computers where they could browse in social media platforms or conduct searches in a search engine.

Filipinos spends almost 11 hours on social media per day according to The Philippine Star(2022). Scrolling on Facebook, Surfing on Instagram, Viewing on TikTok, and Watching on YouTube, this are some examples of social media platforms that Filipinos consumes. Milk Tea easily spread with the help of Food Vloggers and Food Pages that can be found all over social media. These vloggers can be considered as influencers in the social media platform where they can reach large audiences in a small amount of time. Some people are easily swayed by their opinions towards the foods that they review. This type of marketing is very effective and it's the main reason why Milk Tea spread in the Philippines.
