There are treatment options for those who are addicted. There are many medications to help turn the addictiveness around. "Behavioral treatments help patients engage in the treatment process, modify their attitudes and behaviors related to drug abuse, and increase healthy life skills." (Online health book, unit 5.2, pg 8). One other way to stop someone from being addicted is weening off of the drug, or slowly reducing the amount until they're not using it anymore.

My dads friend was addicted to smoking tobacco. He tried many times. It only seemed to only last him a short while until he started up again. The longest he went without smoking was about a year, give or take a few months. He did pass away this year due to a train accident. I think that if he lived longer he could've quit before he died again. This is how I found that quitting can be hard for people.
