Quadblogging is an active learning tool. Four different classrooms in different schools connect and blog on a topic together. Each classroom gets the chance to be the blogger as well as the commentators. Each student gets the opportunity to be the "spotlight" student as the blogger. This video blow helps explain a little more.

Classroom connections can be across the nation, as well as globally. Connecting and blogging with students in different regions or countries can open up a whole new kind of dialog.

Students, depending on the topic, can become more socially and culturally aware. They can also learn what being a "third grader, fourth grader, etc." is like in different parts of the nation, continent, or world. Trying to connect to schools that are not similar to your own school would be something that I would make sure I did. This way my students can be exposed to children their own age who may be living entirely differently than they do.
