Setting

This book is set in a smaller middle class town. I realized this when Gregg mentioned that his house was two floors and a basement. His school has lots of extra curricular activities. He also has a Mac Book, which imply's that Gregg's family has extra money.
Knowing the setting diffidently helps me make connections in the book. I feel that if the school district was wealthier, it would most likely have more security and stricter rules. This would mean Gregg would not be able to either 1) not be able to use the gym at the same time as the boys lacrosse team, or, 2) The school would probably have better teachers, and these problems wouldn't occur.

I think that the theme of "Press Play" is to always do what you believe is right no matter the consequence.
Gregg spent a lot of his time watching the tapes over and trying to decide what he should do. He knew the outcome would be both good and bad.

One conflict is Gregg's struggle to find self acceptance. This put his confidence down a lot throughout the book. I think that if he was okay with himself he would have made decisions faster. Since he doubted himself so much he had started to doubt other situations and people whether he wanted to or not, and this lead the story on.

Another possible theme for my book is to always be comfortable in your own skin. In the book Gregg's low self confidence effected the some of the choices he made. In the beginning of the book Gregg was hesitant about helping out because he didn't think he would be able to keep up with everyone else.

Book Review

Over all this book was a lot better than I originally expected it to be. It was hard for me to really get into it until the 5th or 6th chapter, but after that it kept me wanting to read. Eric Devine had only a few problems through out the book but it felt like there was a lot going on, even though there wasn't. I usually am very picky and it's hard for me to find a book I like, but I would definitely recommend this book

Gregg acted as his own leader. He didn't really have anyone trying to pull him out of his "slump" except his few friends. He was the one that had to push himself to get to the point physically to get on the lacrosse team, and he did it just so he could help the kids.
