Do you think it is better to say that God created the universe out of nothing, or that He worked with imperfect, pre-existing matter?

I think it is better to say be worked with imperfect, pre-existing matter because of the Law of Conservation of Mass which states "Matter cannot be created nor destroyed, only transformed". I am a firm believer in science and God and I think the two work together. While God could be "outside this rule" I find it highly unlikely. Also during the big bang, all the dust grouped up into a giant mass and then boom! It began to form what we have today, hence the world came from pre-existing matter.

I think that it is better to say that God created the universe out of nothing because God is good. If God used imperfect matter than it would leave the question "Who created the pre-existing matter?" It matters to distinguish this because of God's omnibenevolent and omnipotent. Therefore, God could only create what is good/loving and God does so since God is all powerful.

What do you take away from the story of Job?

I take away the fact that bad things can happen to good people. The evil in the world can spread to even the most holy of people, but what is important is to continue to love and trust God. We as humans can only understand so much. The story of on shows us that when we question God, we are questioning a higher power that sees more than we can even hope to see, and knows more than we can ever hope to understand.

What do you take away from Job's story? In Job's suffering, God asked for him to be tempted by Satan to prove his faithfulness. Although Job did nothing wrong, he remained faithful through his tests and all the hardships he faced. When he asked God why he did this, God replied saying that it isn't possible for us to know what he is doing in our lives. I learned from this story that God has a plan for every one of us and if we go through some hardships, it is nothing that we can't get through, and it's nothing compared to what Jesus went through for all of us.

Could there be eternal punishment from an omnibenevolent God?

I believe God wants us all to go to heaven and gives us every possible way to get there, we just have to accept it and follow the path he paved for us. Eternal punishment is an existing factor for those who inflicted pain and suffering in the world and blantantly ignored God.

No, every person should go to heaven, even Hitler since he had a soul. I think our sins and faults make us spend longer in purgatory, but in the end God wants us to be happy. How could we be happy in hell? However, I do think the death penalty is fine since the people on earth could be affect other's pursuit of God. But even these people should go to heaven.

I think that God who is omnibenevolent would allow some people to go to eternal punishment. Love is a free choice and I do not believe God would allow us to love on earth and then force us to love in heaven. In fact, forced love is not love at all. So, I do believe there is eternal punishment because love requires choice, we can choose to love God eternally or deny God.
