Before the boycott Rosa Parks got arrested for not giving up her seat to a white man and in return violating the segregation laws in Montgomery. After Parks got arrested the black community of Montgomery boycotted the buses. This lasted for a year. During the boycott people would walk or car pool to get around. Finally the federal court said that segregating the seats on buses went against the 14th Amendment.
