You may want to find socks that are of interest to your learners, e.g. dinosaurs / cars / unicorns, to entice them.

The children can then listen to the story with their socks ... they will more than likely want to put them on their hands to make puppets.

When I did this with a group of children, they talked about what adventures their socks wanted to go on and took them for a walk around the nursery acting this out. One child thought that he had found a sock that looked like Simon Sock, so now I have added the banana to my story bag to match the story.
