No she is not capable of assenting, she is too young to make such important decisions. Her parents and her sister are influencing her.

I think that if she really wants to and if there are no health risk she can help her sister. But unlike a adult person she doesn’t know really the risk so she needs to fully understand the risk.

I think that a chill of eight years old is a little bit young to understand well this kind of strong procedure. She has to talk more about everything and during more time with their parents to understand well what is about.

i think i understand the parents, but we can't eat the cake and have it too. they can't have their two girls healthy without a sacrifice of the little sister. However the little sister it's not old enough to be put in sleep, that's an heavy operation with too risks for the young girl. it's sad but they may find un other possibility to cure the old sister. the marrow transplant of the little sister must be the last options to try.

It’s difficult because at her age she is not able to take that kind of decisions on her own. Maybe she doesn’t correctly understand the risks and what it involves. She can also be easily influenced by her family or other people.

It is a difficult question and so does the answer. I think the little girl is too young to understand the situation. However her parents konws what is good or not for their daugther.

A child is constantly influenced by his/her parents. If his/her parents are enthusiastic about something, the child will be enthusiastic too. If he/she makes a decision, it is always based on parents' opinions. I think that, for those medical procedures, children aren't mature enough to have a whole point of the situation. As Jessica in the text, they can be frightened by the operation. We have to listen to their feelings and see if they understand completely what they will endure. And if children don't agree with the procedures, we shouldn't force them to accept.

I think Jessica needs to understand what a bone marrow donation consists in, the outcomes and the results before even thinking of donating to her sister. She isn't mature enough to make a decision as heavy as that. The beautiful part of Jessica' story is that she does not even care of the significant consequences that may cost the operation because she wants to help her sister. However the doctor did well explaining her the reallity of her decision.

I think that a 8 years old child is able to understand the issue of the situation. But I think it is a little bit you young to take heavy dessinions.
