I connect this poem with the arts in a way that, in the standard education, all of the subjects are divided and done in the same way: sitting down, silent and listening to the teacher. The more artistic subjects are done in a similar way. There’s no alternative way. Children’s creativity is taken away. When showing appreciation for other things, teachers shut them down. In time, children begin thinking that showing interest in other things is not as important so they lose a part of themselves.

The arts are very subjective and there can be multiple ways of connecting to the arts, expressing yourself through the arts, and I think the whole stanza, from "A hundred always a hundred ways of listening, of marveling, of loving a hundred joys…" all the way down to "a hundred worlds to dream". The fourth stanza also talks about how the child is told to "understand without joy, to love and to marvel only at Easter and at Christmas".
