In 1805 there was a treaty made between Z. Pike bargains with food and clothing with Dakota leaders which also led to the United States gaining two pieces of big land where the Mississippi River and the Minnesota River cross. In the Treaty of 1837 the United States gained land from the Dakota and Objibwe. In the Treaty of 1851 the land south of Fort Snelling was America's up to Lake Mille Lacs. During this time the beaver hate became out of style and people started wearing silk hats. This meant that NA jobs like interpreters, pelt preparers, guides, and hunters were gone. So the traders got their silk from silk caterpillars which meant trade with NA would go down and most NA would lose their jobs due to the loss of trade for beaver hats.

The Americans wanted land from the Dakota and made land grants for land in Minnesota. By 1851 all land south of Fort Snelling was controlled by the Americans and land north of Fort Snelling up to Lake Mille Lacs was also controlled by the Americans. A good deal of Dakota land was handed over to the American slightly unfairly because treaties favored Americans.

In 1803 the US purchased land from France in a purchase called the Louisiana Purchase. Again in 1805 the US Gov. claimed a piece of land from the native people of Minnesota. Later in 1837 the US Gov. strikes again and takes land from the native people again, the same thing repeats in 1851. During this time period felt hats went out of style and silk hats became very trendy. This means Native Americans who had jobs in the fur trade lost their jobs. This was a big effect on the Native Americans. The Native Americans who lost their traditions and relied on the Fur Trade are now in deep doo doo.
In conclusion the Native Americans lost a lot of land and were in a state of panic, for the Fur Trade was over and the Native Americans were without fresh supplies from the Europeans.

One thing that happened during 1805-1841 in Minnesota History was that three treaties were made over time of these years. One in 1805, 1837, and 1851. Also, in the early 1800's, a lot of Euroupean Americans wanted to move west for farming to make money. This event was as the Westward Expansion. One other thing was around the 1830's, where the fur trade diminished. Felt hats went out of style around this time, and silk hats came in to replace them. These are a couple of events that happened during this period of time.
