When I think of colonists, I think of white Europeans who have come to a new land to explore, to conquest and colonize, and to benefit from the new resources or materials they might find. The colonists when they came realized that there was Native People living there. The colonists seemed to be pretty fearful of Native Americans at first and thought they might kill the Europeans. Some Europeans ended up needing the Natives to help them in order to survive in this new land. Some Europeans got along well with Natives while others did not; it often times depended on how friendly the natives were with the Europeans. The colonists settled in land already owned by Native Americans and that will cause some problems between the Natives and incoming colonists.

When I first see this image, I think of the discord between these two groups, and the fighting that will ensue after it because of the belief of white supremacy and superiority to other races. However, I also think of the sign of hope when these two work together, and how when they set aside their differences, they functioned even better together and learned many things that had never been present in their culture before.

My first thoughts about the colonists is European people who were eager to start their new nation; however, they didn't realize the struggles and hardships which would ensue. They longed to be apart from England and to have the freedom of their own separate religion and government. But, I don't think that they all realized how much work and effort had to be put into this new nation. They didn't necessarily understand the idea of completely starting over apart from the king. Additionally, the colonists were seeking after new resources that could be used to obtain more wealth and prosperity. They saw the prosperity of the Indians, and their lifestyle, and they longed for certain aspects of it. I also know that despite the first conflicts that occurred between the colonists and Indians, they eventually became "allies" and helped one another prosper and grow.

My initial thoughts about the colonists are that they were eager to find new land. They were ready to start new beginnings in an interesting new world. They didn't have much experience when they first started, and they weren't ready for life in the new colonies. But their spirit for change and their excitement about the discovery of America kept them going and look where we are now.

My first thoughts when I see this are that the colonists were very eager to find new lands and begin the new world. I think that they had an attitude that made them think they could take whatever land they wanted, despite people already living on it since it wasn't technically claimed. I also think that might have been willing to do whatever they had to do in order to claim the land as their own.

My initial thoughts are that the colonists are a bunch of rough and tough explorer guys that are very convicted and want to make a society. I do see them as oppressors to some extent, and recognize that they are willing and ready to do some bad things to the Indians, and don't exactly see them as people. Ultimately, the colonists are here to colonize, and they believe that they have this right bestowed upon them by God to colonize as best as they see fit, and they exercise that right no matter who it affects. It does result in a lot of pain and death, though. The winters get very brutal. They're a group of people who get stuff done.

When I first look at this picture I see colonists who look like they are ready to start their new journey in this new land. When they left England, they sought separation from the king, however, I know now that they will deal with a lot of hardships and losses, in order to gain this new nation. When the colonists came, they are seeking to build a nation right over the top of the nation that the Indians have already established. that is what causes the war, because the europeans have come to settle what the native Americans already claimed. The colonists are also super eager to find new resources that might have been scarce over in England. some of these resources are also very valuable to the native Americans, and so this might cause some quarreling between the two parties.

My initial thoughts about the colonists are about freedom. I know from previously that the colonists were ruled by England, and they eventually developed a sense of freedom and wanting to govern themselves. They wanted to make their own rules, be able to make money the way they wanted to, and make daily choices on their own. I think their initial perspective on the Native Americans was that they didn't deserve to be living on the land. I think the colonists wanted the land for themselves and they wanted the freedom to do with it what they chose. One more thing that I also think about their perspectives on the natives is that they wanted to work with them and trade with them in order to prosper and learn things about the land that the natives already knew.

When I first look at this image I think about the desire to find more land and more weather/land that differentiates from the world they lived in. I think it shows their excitement and willingness to communicate with the tribes that already live on this land. They may not fully agree with all of their beliefs or ideas, but they want to live in peace away from their home country.

When I think of colonists, I think of the Pilgrims coming on the Mayflower or the patriots fighting in the Revolutionary War. I also think about the values of independence and freedom that they brought with them and came to America with as they sought to begin a new life. And in reference to the Indians, I think that the colonists viewed them as people so different from themselves that they could hardly saw them as people. In addition, they often viewed them as in their way of claiming land or were scared of them.

My initial thoughts about colonists are that they are White euorpeans looking for land and willing to do whatever it takes to get it. I think of the discord that I know that happens between these two groups. I think some of the initial perspectives of the colonists on the natives was that there are these untamed nonintellectual beings running around and they felt as though they were superior to them. Ultimately the colonists are there to take over land and they will do what they see fit to achieve that goal. They are focussed and that may be why we prospered as a nation so much but at what cost?

My intials views of the colonist are a very brave and strong group of people. They took a huge risk coming to American. I see them a very unified group of people helping each other for a common purpose which is freedom and independence. I can picture them starting from nothing and giving it their all to make something. They were excited for life in the colonies and for adventure. I feel like at first they saw the Indians as something to be scared of. But this fear turned into friendship. The first thing that comes to mind with this friendship is the thanksgiving, and the Indians sharing their food with the colonist.

My initial thoughts about colonists are that they were very passionate people. They are determined to succeed in this new and foreign land. they are passionate about obtaining their own freedom and rights and starting to have independence. I imagine their courage to sail through new seas while many of their men die. They were driven, and their journey was not easy but regardless they persevered. while this is a positive though, there also more negative images that pop into my mind. their conflicts with Native Americans as an example. Overall, there's a lot of good and bad behind the word colonist and the history it holds.

The colonists seem to look down on native Americans. They think of them as savages. Even if they respect certain aspects and practices and even come to adopt them later, for example the Iroquois constitution, they assume power over them. They came to the new world with expectations to conquer and develop the land for their country so when they are met with the Natives they make rash assumptions and jump to conclusions about them as a people.

Seeing this image makes me think about everything we've been taught about the colonists. How they came to the new land, knowing nothing about it, and knowing nothing about the people that lived there. They didn't even think people did live there. The Natives in the background especially make me think of what we've been told about how they reacted to the Colonists coming to their land, how they helped the colonists settle, helped them get food and shelter, and it also makes me think of how the colonists reacted. How the colonists accepted everything the Natives gave them, and more. They came into America looking for land, and when the land they found was inhabited they tried their best to either ally with the Natives in hopes of gaining more land, or they just outright took the land from them, because they viewed the Natives as less intelligent. The image makes me think of how the colonists came here to discover new land, and build new cities, despite the fact that the Natives had already claimed it.

When I see this picture I see the beginning of our nation, people who desire change and went for it. I think of Thanksgiving and the union that was brought between the native Americans and the New Colonists. I think of harvest and growth, the trials the COlonists faced, hunger, satisfaction, and work.... I would say that the initial reaction the colonists had would be one of suspicion and unease. I would say that both people groups were not quite sure what the other would do if they were friends or foes. In this instance I think of how the two groups' relationship was beneficial and helped both sides, the colonists got food, etc.. and the Indians got knowledge and refined goods.

When I view this picture I can visualize all of times that the Europeans, out of humility, would ask the Natives to aid in the needs of exploring the new land. It was unfamiliar, strange, but also exciting. The colonists were fighting as one for independence separate from the king and although they had moments where they felt desperate, they persevered and remembered why they started hunting down their freedom in the first place.

My initial thoughts were that the Colonists would view the natives as uncivilized and less advanced. I think that the Colonists probably thought that they deserved the land to some extent. The colonists dressed, spoke, behaved, and fought differently, and I'm sure they believed they were superior to the natives based on their own societal standards.

My first thoughts about the colonists when i first see this image is the struggle. The colonists who came over from Europe were excited for their new life; however, I don't think that they understood a lot of the hardships that they would have to endure, and the fight that they would have to give for their new nation. I think it is very clear even just looking at the map, and looking at the geography, to see some of the struggle. These colonists have to take over what the natives already call home, and that is what starts a lot of the fighting and war. I think that the Colonists definitely don't view the natives as "humans" so much, and just as people on the land that they want.

My initial thoughts about the colonist, are that although they are brave explorers they also have a dark side and are willing to take what they want even at the expense of others. At first they seem like the appreciate that Native Americans and their odd culture but later view themselves as superior. Their greed causing them to hurt anyone who gets in their way and eventually take away the Native American's home land to create what we now call home.

The colonists came to this new land with purpose and hope. They were seeking to form a society they couldn't fully form in the homeland. Although we mainly see them as peaceful, that doesn't mean that they won't do what it takes to survive. People are not perfect and have their perspectives. Sometimes we only see part of the story when it comes to Native Americans and the colonists.

My initial thoughts about the colonist are that they are eager for land and a new start. I think that the colonist were initially nice towards the natives because they needed them for supplies. But once they got on their feet again they started to take land and steal from the Natives. I feel like the explorers had bad intentions from the beginning and never truly wanted relationships with the Natives. But there also were some colonist that were only trying to gain freedom.

Initially, my thoughts go to the Europeans settling into a foreign land - starting from scratch and happening upon the Native Americans. Although the Europeans previously thought they would conquer and settle quickly, they didn't know what would transpire. Specifically, the colonists wanted to acquire land, and create a society away from the king. They saw themselves as superior to the Native people and dehumanized them in order to get what they wanted.
