Today was the first day of protesting in Tiananmen Square. It was pretty exhilarating, as it was the first day, and it felt like I was doing something purposeful. There a lot of other students there and it also felt good to be a part of something so big.

Today we started a hunger strike, and I don't know if I can do it. I love food, and how am I supposed to overcome that love. Anything for democracy, right? I can't wait for the strike to be over, but I love the energy that still is present here. Today martial law was declared, after the government apparently couldn't handle our strike. It wasn't a huge difference or anything, and the protests continued. Tank man was taken away and then everything went to chaos. Soldiers were shooting wherever they saw people, and people were dying all over. It was one of the most gruesome sights I've ever seen. I can't believe I survived, but somehow I did, not without a scratch though, as I was shot in the lower leg. We were rushed to the hospital and protest ended.

Today an unidentified man stood in front of a line of tanks coming to disrupt the protest. I could never have done something like that. The protests were continuing and he just stood there, and blocked the tanks. I respect someone like that, that can risk their life for what they believe in.
