USRAH WEEK 5: Benefits of Fasting During Ramadan Month.

1. History of Fasting
Fasting has been practiced by various religions before Islam, including Judaism and Christianity. It was also observed by figures like Prophet Musa, Prophet Isa, and Maryam. In Islam, fasting in Ramadan was made obligatory in the second year after Hijrah, as stated in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:183).

2. Purpose and Benefits of Fasting
Fasting is a means to attain taqwa (God-consciousness). It helps control desires, purify the soul, and discipline the body. It also teaches self-restraint, patience, and spiritual reflection.

3. Exemptions and Flexibility
Islam provides exemptions for those who are sick, traveling, or physically unable to fast. They may make up for missed fasts later or pay fidyah (charitable compensation). This reflects Allah’s mercy and desire for ease in worship.

4. The Significance of Ramadan
Ramadan is special as it is the month in which the Quran was revealed. Other holy scriptures, such as the Torah and Gospel, were also revealed during Ramadan. During this month, the gates of heaven are opened, and the gates of hell are closed.

5. Spiritual and Social Impact

Sabr (Patience): Fasting strengthens patience and endurance.

Takrim (Honor and Respect): It elevates the status of the believer and strengthens faith.

Rahmah (Compassion and Mercy): Fasting promotes empathy for the less fortunate, encouraging charity and kindness.

6. The Power of Dua (Supplication)
Fasting enhances the acceptance of prayers, as Allah is close to those who seek Him. Hadiths emphasize that the prayers of a fasting person are not rejected.

7. Eid al-Fitr and Gratitude
After completing Ramadan, Muslims celebrate Eid with joy, gratitude, and charity (Zakat al-Fitr), ensuring that the less fortunate also partake in the festivities.

Key Takeaways

✅ Fasting builds self-discipline and strengthens faith.
✅ It purifies the soul and increases empathy for the poor.
✅ Islam provides ease for those unable to fast.
✅ Ramadan is a time of spiritual renewal and devotion.
✅ The rewards of fasting are immense, with Allah promising special blessings.
