Hi, my name is Ira Jeglinsky. I am working at Arcada UAS in Helsinki (colleague to Thomas), where I started as a lecturer in physiotherapy. After my PhD, which I conducted at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, I have worked as a principal lecturer with about 60% of my time doing research and the rest teaching. My research area is child neurology and (re)habilitation whereas the family-centered approach is close to my heart. I am married and my two children are adults and are both studying. My spare time I spend with family and friends, I do different sports, and love being outdoors biking, walking in the forest, skiing…

I am completely lost and a novice in using social media and most of the connecting technology. My children are making fun of me, as I am such an unpractical person J My expectations for the course are therefore to learn a lot and to develop my skills in using the different tools. I´d really like to be part of the 21th century(!) I fear that I do not find time enough to focus on the course, but I ensure you I do my best. I really look forward to collaborate with all you in ONLPBL 5.

My name i Thomas Hellstén, and I am also a new member in the group. I live i Helsinki Finland. I work as a part time lecture in physiotheraphy in Arcada. Arcada is a multi-professional university of applied sciences (UAS) with campus located in Arabianranta, Helsinki. I work also clinically as a physiotherapist in Orton Foundation i Helsinki. My expectation of the course are quit open and I hope to learn new things about the eLearning and try new digital solution. On my free time I like to do different sports and skiing is one of my favorite hobbies. I am new to this PBL group. I needed to move from another PBL group due to different timezones. I am full time lecture at Malmoe university since 2002. I am part time educational developer since 2007. Trained and PH D student in Media and Communication and Gender Studies at Umeå university. My academic interest are related to democratic dialogues. I have a strong bias to Communication IRL. I hope this course will change my attitude, making me more open minded. Time is my worst enemy. My real job is trying to to be a good father and a better husband every day. Madeleine and myself we have twins: Leo and Markus. On my spare time I am finishing my PhD thesis my PhD in Spanish Literature and my focus is on Latin American Literature. I used to own my own company in Spain and I have been working as private financial consultant in a Bank in the States and Director of Marketing for a Real Estate company in Barcelona. I have done a M.B.A. and a Master in Real Estate back then but decided to start all over again and did a Master in Culture Literature and Media at Lund University. My expectations for this course ONL 171 are maximum since everyone that has been taking this course is so excited. I am a user-friendly technology type of person. Looking forward to come to the XXI century and to develop tools that will help me and my students in the future!

As a professional I am a scientist who focus on breast cancer. I started to investigate when I was 19 years old because I thought it was a fun and cool thing to do. Almost in parallel, I developed my love for education, in part due, to the wonderful mentors that I had. I enjoy most to explain difficult things in an easy way and to see how the students and even my children progress and bloom. Later on I started to discover technology and enjoy using it for teaching and learning purposes. With a background in Problem Based Learning (PBL) I know that I have full responsibility for what I learn and how I learn it and I intend to communicate this to my students: You are in charge!

In private, I value spending time with my family (see some of them in the pic) and eventually taking shots with my camera. This is a little of research as well since I have the need to document the world and make sense of it. In this course I want to gain experience as facilitator for online PBL teams. I want to contribute to a nice educational experience and atmosphere in our group. I fear?...well I fear nothing yet :-) I believe we will have a lot of fun!

My name is Susan Friederichs van Harmelen. My role at the Independent Institute of Education Varsity College in South Africa, is as Head of the School of Education. My role includes supporting eight campuses nationally that offer our newly accredited initial teacher education qualifications: The Bachelor of Education in Intermediate Phase Teaching, and the Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching. I am based in Cape Town, South Africa. I originally come from a school teaching background, with a particular focus on Early Childhood Foundation Phase Teaching. I completed my Masters in Education at UCT and I have been working in Higher Education for 13 years now. I am a mother to two children, a 2-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son. I hope to develop myself with this course, it is an area that I have not fully tapped into before and I have much to learn in this space. So much of the tools and engagement will be new to me and I hope that from this I will be able to develop some very valuable insights and understanding that will strengthen me in my role in Teacher education and training. I expect to learn how to use modern computer networking like document sharing, video lecturing, etc for developing and spreading education in new forms and to people within (and without) our academic systems. I think we will have many new forms for educatin in years to come.

PhD, I did my thesis in clincal virology with focus on chronic hepatitis, after postdoc and some years mainly focusing on research, I now almost exclusively work with education in microbiology. I am married and the mother of two wonderful kid, so most of my time off duty is spent with them. I also try to fit in some training at “friskis and svettis” or swimming. Hopefully I can include taking care of our garden soon, since we are looking for a house to spend our holidays at!

I began at Lund University as a student, studying history and writing on a PhD thesis, but ended up supporting my colleagues computers and all kinds of technology at the Department of History and the Faculty of Humanities and Theology. I have worked with Learning Managements Systems like LUVIT since the end of the 20th century, the last years as administrator for the Faculty of Humanities and Theology and now as a kind of “SuperAdmin” for Lund University. I work part-time at the Division for Higher Education Development (AHU) at Lund University and part-time at the Department of History as a teacher.

On my spare time I have my family, but also my goats and various constellations of jazz groups where I play the guitar. I also love cooking, gardening and watching late movies on television!
