In the moment she started to feel like the frog .Pent down helpless and dead on the inside. A time when her family was actually happy. On page 66 she talks about it and she says how her parents took her to an apple orchard and it has a happy time. Maya Angelou was one of the symbols that could have been over looked. Melinda is also going threw some similar things that Maya has over came in life. Maya Angelou was a victim of rape and she remained silent for 5 years.
