An obstcle faced by Edith Green is that once she was elected to be in congress she had trouble with the congressmen listening to her ideas (Page 25). This is considered a obstacle because this stopped Edith Green from changing the unfairness give to girl because if no one would listen to her then she wouldn't be able to get her ideas out there and be aprroved. This helped develop's Mrs. Green's personality because she decided to put her foot down when she got ignored, even if she looked unladylike she would get her political point across. This obstacle made her become a better fighter because she no longer cared about her self image unless it pertained to her cause and would work hard to get her point approved by others in the congress especially the men. This obstacle helped Edith Green move closer, it is stated on page 34 that "Mrs. Green proposed adding a section to the education bill that would ban sex discrimination in programs and activities at any school that recieved federal money". This quotes helps show part of why this obstcle helped Edith Green achieve her goal because later on in the page it was stated that this suggestion would become a part of Title IX. This shows she was able to achieve her goal because of this obstacle because if she wouldn't have put her foot down to being ignored then she wouldn't have been part of the law that changed the future of girls in America.

A obstacle faced by Billie Jean King that she needed to have faith in beating Bobby Riggs in tennis because more than just a game was at stake. This would be considered a obstacle because if Billie Jean King were to loose in the "Battle of the Sexes" (Tennis Battle), then women would be humilated and become a joke when it came to sports. (Was stated on page 60-62). This obstacle mad Billie Jean King develop as a more brave person because once a women tennis player lost to Bobby Riggs she wanted to prove women could play sports because she didn't want women to be humiliated anymore which was the reason she declined Bobby Riggs challenge to play tennis in the first place. This helped Billie Jean King get closer to the main goal which was women becoming equal to me in sports because she did not only beat Booby Riggs, she dominated the court which inspired more girls aroung the world to play tennis and taught them that girls can too play sports, ( Page 62 -62)

A obstacle faced by woman as a whole was getting Title IX noticed because even after it became a law programs adn schools funded by th government were discriminating aganist women. This would be considered a obstacle because even if women were suppose to be legally allowed to play sports and get a education like boys it still wasn't being applied which put a roadblock on their successes and new found liberaties. This made women more determined towards their goal because they were so close as to being recongnized as equals, all they needed was more hard work and a little push. This brought women closer to their goal because girls on university sports teams who had a lower budget then the boys team sued thier university until they got equality. Girl suing thier university gave other schools a wake up call because they didn't want the same thing to happen to them, so they decided to enforce Title IX so they also wouldn't lose their government funding. This brought them closer to their goal because women actually did something so that Title IX was enforced by schools wich actually occured because of their determination.

Before Title IX had existed women had the obstacle of being treated as equals in schools because it was thought a man's education was more important that a women's. This was a obstacle because it would be difficult to change a person's mind from the traditional way of thinking to a new way of thinking because during those time it was believed women didn't need a education since they were suppose to stay home and take care the kids and house. This made women more determined becausethey thought it was unfair that men were thought as more highly then them that they couldn't even get a proper education, and if they did get a proper education they couldn't find any job occupation for women like lawyer occupations. This took them farther from thier goal because had a close mindset and thought the traditional way that they even had propaganda against women. For example on page 9 there was a picture that showed a woman going to vote and a man staying at home to take care og his children with a horrid look on his face. This showed men that women shouldn't get equal rights because they would take over men's place in society and men would take a women's place.

A obstacle faced by women was that they wanted to be equal to men when it came to sports and not seem like the "weaker" sex or be insecure of muscles they have because of sports ( Page 57). This was a obstacle because women would have to play sports with less contact and would not be able to play high level competion sports which would make it a obstacle because it would stop women from playing the sport they always dreamed of playing because of their sex. This made women want to prove themselves that could do it too. This helped women reach thier goal because they started to play mor sports and they started to prove themselves more that they could play like boys do too. For example when Billie Jean King won againist Bobby Riggs, she helped prove that women could also play like boys and inspired other girls to play too.
