I looked on the website provided on the assignment but nothing really stood out to me. So what did I do? Skipped on over to Pinterest where I seriously get most of my inspiration for any art project. The one I found is below and I was instantly taken by the colors in the piece. I loved the blues and how it was spread out almost evenly throughout the blanket. In almost every single square there’s at least one shade of blue incorporated in it. I also like that way the borders of the blanket also kept with the pattern and had blues in it as well. Another reason why I chose this is because of the geometrical shapes on it. The squares and rectangles were what I was looking for when I was looking for a blanket to take inspiration from. I really liked how it turned out. I originally went overboard on the limited color palette assignment and ended up with way more than required so I forced myself to start with only 6 colors at first and when I felt I needed more since I was running out of marker paper, I would gradually add in more colors. I was extremely hesitant to use the pure ultramarine blue because of how dark in color it was compared to the rest. Surprisingly, I ended up loving it completely and was trying to sneak in some more of the ultramarine throughout the paper. I also tried to continue the mixture of blues in the piece just like the reference Gee Bend I mentioned above. I was also getting a bit too excited with coming up with designs in some of the squares. I refunded the original quilt’s composition and color organization. I placed muted colors by the center and sides of the piece. And made large connecting areas of bright prismatic colors that would draw the eye along the collage. For my mosaic collage I didn’t use a very good glue stick and it made my life a million times harder. This time I learned my lesson and upgraded to an Elmer’s glue stick! Made it so much easier . If I were to do this again I would pick a more complicated composition, but only if I had more time to complete the piece. I altered the color palette. I applied the size 16"x16" minimum and the largest swatch size 4.5"x 4" maximum. I made to collage something because of a feeling. I finished an important exercise. The original quilt is 88 x 80 inches. 
The reason it appeals to me is because it's a combination of black and white blocks combined with colored pieces. I like to combine color with black and white myself and the contrast that black and white stripes create just really speaks to me.  Another reason, I have to admit, is that this quilt doesn't have a complex pattern. From the beginning, I knew I wanted to do different colors, but I loved the color combination already so I inverted the red, blue, and added the yellow. The yellow adds pop and ties it together. I think another thing that really works is the yellow is solid all around which adds the the contrast of the variety of the blues and reds. I tried to use only the limited random color swatches that I made, which made it look the way it does. The outcome is overall good I think. What I like about this quilt is shapes in the middle. Like the pink triangle in the lime green square and the lime green triangle in the pink square. It is that playing around with colors is what I really like about my quilt.
