If my students say that this topic NEVER will be needed (and I sometimes agree with them), I suggest perceiving these situations as a completely new problem to be solved with the available resources, perceiving it as a key to the door leading to what really will be needed -the ability to act in an unprecedented situation.

Basically I try to teach students to use critical thinking and basic citizenship skills, especially with regard to environmental problems; although the weather is damn little, I try to show graphs and data on the increase in CO2 and I try to start a discussion about what each of us could do to reverse this trend, but I confess that students are not always interested. I would add problem-solving and decision-making skills. For problem-solving, I would suggest activities where my students are given a problem, like misbehaving in school and bullying, and I would let them find ways to prevent these behaviors. My students could take interviews or create a movie. In my experience as a teacher, every day I set myself the goal of stimulating the curiosity of my students through lessons that are as experiential as possible: in fact, I believe that the most important skills for today's students are critical thinking and creativity. In a typical lesson, I pose a problem associated with the issue to be taught and let them offer some hypothetical solutions. I do not disdain the worst solutions and I do not praise the best ones. They will conclude which are the most effective paths, me orienting them with new elements towards new reasoning. The great thing is to work in a team, as if we were a team that really has to solve a problem. When the problem-solving comes to the application phase, I bring into play the creativity of the individual amplified by the group. A law of genetics can become a game of chance with beans or buttons, the double helix of DNA can be created by hand with strings of candy, the periodic table can become a naval battle or the history of evolution can become a game of goose with pawns, dice and questions.

I do so by challenging them to ask questions, to investigate different hypothesis, to discover their logical consequences, to find as many solutions as possible to a given problem and then choose the most appropriate one.

I totally agree on the 21st century skills as was presented by the 4Cs. I try to help my students in fostering such skills by motivating them to engage in real life situations, make experiments, find solutions, collaborate. However, the results are not often positive. Students nourishment on these skills should start early in their school life, from kindergarten. It is very difficult to start training high school students if they have not cultivated such skills before. This training should be a long time process. A linear approach to help students develop the 4Cs should be applied from the early to high school curricula.

Empathy I think is what is missing among our students. The future needs good people in general, this is possible by putting ourself on somebody else's shoes.
And also critical thinking but my approach is simpler than complex. I mean, less is more. Students should be able to develop simpler solutions to the problem. The problem being daily life case or a physics problem. I teach them Oakham razor that is "the simplest solution to a problem is the correct one". I use history of science to illustrate my examples.

The core curriculum of general education, for example, gimnazjum / Polish law on education / also defines skills important for the student. These are:

2. mathematical thinking - the ability to use mathematics tools in everyday life and formulating judgments based on mathematical reasoning;
3. scientific thinking - the ability to use scientific knowledge to identify and solve problems, as well as formulate conclusions based on empirical observations about nature and society;
4. the ability to communicate in the mother tongue and in foreign languages, both in speech and in writing;
5. ability to efficiently use modern information and communication technologies;
6. the ability to search, select and critically analyze information;
7. the ability to recognize one's own educational needs and learning;
8. teamwork skills.
Each of the above competence is important. But I do not develop all competences in every lesson. I try to choose the competences that are most appropriate to the topic of the lesson. How do I teach these students' skills? Here are some examples:
- mathematical competences: students create models, charts, tables for presenting the results of experiments,, observations,
- competences in the field of natural sciences, technology and engineering: conducting experiments in accordance with the stages of the scientific method, IBSE, problem-based teaching,
- digital competences: students use and support learning through the use of programs and applications, for example, Pl@ntNet, iCell, Anatomy 4D,
- teamwork skills: project work, work in pairs, work in groups, feedback information student-teacher, student-student.

I think 4C's skills are a good resume of the 21st skills needed by our students.
Similar to Gamze Siper from Turkey I always try to start a lesson with a problem o shocking situation. Although I guide student’s inquiry with questions, I think the most important issue is do not give solutions immediately. Instead of that, let them to try different theories or experiments. They might check by themselves if they are wrong or right. In the lab, one of the key is, for example, do not give material to the students. Instead of that, wait their demands about they need to solve the problem.

In my opinion, the answer lies in the development of skill
The skills needed to succeed in the 21st century are different from the ones that were in the 20th century, or at least, they are organized differently. Also, by asking them to justify their opinions with a reason or an example, we can use the work to develop their ability to think critically. For example if students argue for something I teach to listen each other their opinions. Also I noticed that some student give up very fast if they are not success in learning process (for example the experiment was failed). This is way I am saying for students to repeat it again because I think that perseverance is important too.

I want my students to be more creative with the homework I assigned them with. I want them to think outside the box and voice their opinions without fear, in collaboration. Apart from the skills mentioned, I believe there’s a crucial one that is not mentioned anywhere: emotional intelligence. Without having a balanced mind, learning can’t be fully achieved.

An example of how I work some of the 21^st c skills in my classrooms is by applying the Thinking Based Learning (TBL) methodology, which contributes mainly to the developing of critical and creative thinking skills thanks to the use of thinking skills, thinking routines and habits of mind.

Skills or traits I think should be further honed in our education system are:

Reflective
Principled
Risk-taking

I prompt my students to be reflective not only about their behaviour towards one another as a disciplinary measure, but I encourage self- reflection during and after assignments. An example of this would be after a group assignment is completed, like creating an invention that achieves a goal, to reflect on how the group worked well, how they have contributed positively or negatively, if there could have been improvements and how they feel about the product they have built together. What about the invention makes it unique or successful? What is the best part about the invention? The hardest challenge they had to overcome.

I observe and encourage my students to be principled throughout the school year by providing instances that require one to make decisions that will create positive outcomes or negative ones. This can be done again, through collaborative work. Is everyone contributing equally? Is everyone being treated fairly? And in terms for the actual assignment, are decisions being made good for others in the community? How about those outside of your community? What kind of global impact could your project produce?

I try to ensure my students have ample opportunities to take risks by presenting them with assignments that take them out of their comfort zone. This could be in the form of having them work with groups of people they aren’t used to, public speaking or ways in which they will show what they’ve learned.

An other skill that I think would be crucial for 21st century learning is technology skill, social skill and organizational skill.

AS teachers we're now faced with students who are much more aware, so at first we should arouse their curiosity. How can we do this? We can do this by providing them with authentic content which stimulates them from low to higher level of thinking.Our students should lead their own learning. We should encourage collaboration by getting them into team project works. We should for the teams sometimes randomly to discover every students' capacity and thus they can know each other better. This is a chance for each of them to show their ability. Teachers should focus on not only the result itself but also the learning process. Teachers should listen to the students, empower them by giving them voice to take responsibility for their own learning.The era of expecting of speaking and remaining silent students is over for teachers. We need young people who speak up and make their voices heard all over the world.
