Summary:
Technology has come a long ways in the past five years especially when it comes to healthcare. The use of IPhones has transformed many aspects of healthcare (Ventola, 2014). There are so many apps that you can download to have access to patient information. At my facility they started implementing IPhone usage for all the staff last year. You can use the great cameras that the phones have to take images of wounds to send directly to physicians. You are able to access patients lab results and imagining through these device as well. These devices increase efficiency in the clinical practice. It can help patients as well keep tract of their health information outside the hospital to bring to the hospital when they have an appointment.
Pros:
-Access to patient information at your fingertips
- You can access patient information remotely
- Convenience (time-management)
Cons:
-Generational gaps (everyone isn't technology savvy)
-Malfunction of device , if ran off of Wifi when the system is down so is your phone
-Smaller display for information
Opinion:
I believe that IPhone usage in healthcare is a wonderful resource for all staff. It helps nurses to keep direct contact with the patients multidisciplinary team to discuss any new findings. This technology helps bridge a gap between multiple disciplinary through communication.
Source:
Ventola, C. L. (2014).
