I was first introduced to her while teaching her son. I have had the opportunity to work with her several times in both my chemistry and biology classes. Nothing go better together than food and science. My PBL project in biology required students to create a meal plan based around macromolecules, create a meal, and cook it in front of a live studio audience. This project included film and ELA. In chemistry, my students had to create meals for 50+ individuals for a cook off that was judged by several chefs.

Sometimes in PBL projects we as teachers as students to take on the role of various career professionals. This site can help students learn more about those careers. When taking on various career roles it adds authenticity and more buy-in to a project.

This is a great tool for biology/apbio class. I like the phenomena they have and I can take it and make it my own, but I can also use all of the resources they have available.

A great tool for discovering various projects across multiple curriculums. I have used a couple lessons from here to engage my students. Everything is standards based. They projects in all subject areas, and they also have lessons that can be delivered.

HHMI Biointeractive

This website is for high level sciences-Biology, AP Biology, AP Environmental Science. It contains labs, videos, data sets that students evaluate. The assignments have already been created. The assignments I have assigned to my students from this sight have been engaging as well as it is very rigorous. There’s google docs version and pdf versions of the activities.

Phet Simulation

This website is a great alternative to Gizmos. Not only does it contain the general assignment, but teachers can share assignments generated for simulations. I enjoy this website because the answers aren’t readily found on the internet. Students are therefore forced to go through the activity. They are great activities for chemistry, physics, and biology.

This website helps teachers plan and create interactive lessons. It takes Nearpod to a whole new level. You can upload your own slides, create slides, quiz students using polls, students can submit drawings, and various other engaging activities.

If you are into creating assignments where students have to use stopmotion or some sort of animation this is the perfect website. I have my students take difficult concepts and have to present it to elementary age students, and create an animation to show and teach them as a project.

This website has tools and lessons that can be adapted for in the classroom, but its good for distance learning as well. You can also take some of the lesson and create a project out of it.

NSTA Case Studies

I find these case studies very insightful when teaching upper level sciences such as AP Environmental, AP Biology, or even your general level science classes. Some of the case studies are clicker cases, they come with an outline for the lesson as well as questions along with the answers. Some cases are simply 30-60 minutes or they can take as long as two days to complete. Either way these case studies makes learning applicable to real-life.

Is a great share space. You can collaborate with other on Wakelet, or you can make it a sharing tool for PDs, or for your students. I have created pages that contain study tools for students. I have had student post the project on a page to create some sort of gallery walk online.
