This artifact and the story behind it represents the central focus that Audre Lorde is alluding to in her Uses of Anger writing. This allusion is that Women of color have to find a way to survive or be destroyed by internalized rage. Towards the left of this box, i have selected an excerpt of Lorde's writing that i wanted to specifically focus on. Shange had attempted suicide before turning the rage she was feeling into poetry. This collection of poems were a safe outlet to express the rage of racism and sexism. The fact that this artifact is referred to as a Choreopoem exemplifies the orchestrated symphony that Lorde refers to in her passage. This artifact acknowledges the effects of what silenced rage can do to women right in the title, "For colored girls who have considered suicide", and at the same time, acts as a saving grace by having writing that women can connect and empathize with before succeeding with suicide.
