Type YOUR NAME (Act.Scene.Lines) "Song Choice" as the TITLE of your response. Then post your written justification as well as a link to a performance of the song you selected for your character's play list. This counts as a project grade. Your writing should be well-organized, detailed, thorough, and specific and error-free. THIS IS A MODERATED PADLET, so your responses will not post until I approve them.

If Count Paris from Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have an iPod, one song that would be sure to be on his playlist would be “Do Wah Diddy Diddy” by Manfred Mann because Paris is ecstatic about marrying Juliet. For example, in 3.4.29, Paris tells Lord Capulet their wedding day can't come soon enough: "My lord, I would that Thursday were tomorrow" when Lord Capulet agrees for the two to wed in just a few days time. Later, in 4.1.18, Paris proves himself to be delighted to see Juliet when he is making wedding arrangements with Friar Lawrence and Juliet arrives. Paris states, “Happily met, my lady and my wife.” This example demonstrates Paris’s eagerness because even though they aren’t married yet, he boldly calls Juliet his wife out of sheer anticipation of their future as a married couple. The same sentiment is evident in “Do Wah Diddy Diddy” by Manfred Mann in both the upbeat melody and in the lyrics: “I’m hers, she’s mine, wedding bells are gonna chime.” This song connects to Paris because the speaker is also overjoyed about his relationship and his upcoming marriage. For this reason, “Do Wah Diddy Diddy” by Manfred Mann would definitely be on Paris’s iPod playlist because like Paris in 4.1.18, the song expresses bliss.

If Romeo Montague from Shakespeare’sThe Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have an iPod, one song that would be sure to be on his playlist would be “Murder on My Mind” because in this song it talks about how he accidentally killed his friend and got sent away without him being able to say goodbye to any one. This is similar to Romeos situation because he is exiled for killing Tybalt and he feels guilty because he acted on impulse and had to pay the price. Romeo couldn’t say goodbye to Juliet and when he found her dead it made him feel even more guilty. For this reason, “Murder On My Mind” by YNW Melly would definitely be on Romeos iPod playlist because like Romeo, the artist felt guilty.

If Tybalt from Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have spotify, one song that might be on his playlist would be “True Friends” by Bring Me The Horizon because Tybalt is angry at Romeo because of the fued. For example, in 3.1.63, Romeo is stopping Mercutio from fighting with Tybalt, but ends up fighting Tybalt himself. Tybalt says,“Boy, this shall not excuse the injuries that thou hast done me; therefore turn and draw”. Even though the family feud between Capulets and Montagues has led to this fight, Tybalt still makes it sound like this was all Romeo’s fault. Later, in 3.1.128 the fight happens and Tybalt is still telling Romeo that he is a, “wretched boy,” right before his death. He states, “ Thou, wretched boy, that didst consort him here, shalt with him hence” which concludes that Tybalt does not respect Romeo nor any Montague even at his deathbed. These examples states Tybalt’s aggressiveness because he is so agitated to fight Romeo and still smack-talks him before his death. The same sentiment is evident in both the upbeat melody and the lyrics of Bring Me The Horizon’s song “True Friends” when the singer excitedly sings, “I wouldn't hold my breath if I was you 'Cause I'll forget but I'll never forgive you.” This song connects to Tybalt because the singer is also forceful and aggressive towards their former friend because of their past. For this reason, “True Friends” by Bring Me The Horizon would definitely be on Tybalt’s spotify playlist because like Tybalt, the song expresses rage.

I chose this song for Mercutio, representing his and Romeo’s friendship. Their friendship is one of the strongest. I don’t know a lot of people that would kill a guy for their friend. Romeo released so much anger and sadness when he saw his best friend be murdered. I chose this song because it represented the friendship between the two characters in the movie “Fast and the Furious”. And in that movie the two characters were best friends who would have done anything for each other.

If Romeo from Shakespeare's, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have a music app, such as YouTube Red, one song that would be, "Hooked on a feeling" by Blue Swede because in Romeo and Juliet Romeo has shown from the beginning of the play of how much his feelings for things and people are deep, and lustful. In Act 1, scene 5, this is when Romeo first sees Juliet at the Capulet's party, he says once he sees her, "Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night." This was just after his depression state of mind when he found out he could not marry Rosaline in Act 1 scene 1 . In the song "Hooked on a Feeling" he says "I'm hooked on a feeling
I'm high on believing
That you're in love with me," This reminds me of how quickly Romeo changes his mind about how he feels and is head over heels for Juliet immediately when he sees her. For these reasons "Hooked on a Feeling" by Blue Swede song is about a man being so in love with a girl he seems almost addicted to her, which I think is how Romeo is for Juliet.

If Juliet from Shakespeares's "The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet" were to have an iPod, she would definitely have the song "Across the Universe" by The Beatles. This is due to the nature of the song's tone; optimistic and about love. The song describes that "Nothing's gonna change my world" which can connect with Juliet by describing her relationship with Romeo as evidenced in this scene. No matter what's going to happen to either one of them, nothing's gonna change their worlds even if they are separated. I chose this song because it represents that happiness will last forever even if anything tries to change their world.

If Tybalt from Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have a spotify account, a song that would definitely be on his playlist would be “Believer” by Imagine Dragons because Tybalt is so full of anger has no limits on what he can do. For example in 3.1.57-69, Tybalt comes to see them and to fight only, “ No better term than this : thou art a villain”. After Tybalt kills Mercutio in 3.1.128-130 he says, “ Thou, wretched boy, that didst consort him here, Shalt with him hence” all Tybalt wants is violence, i think he just wants all of it to end. In the song “Believer” one of the lyrics is, “I’m fired up and tired of the way that things have been.” This song relates to Tybalt’s attitude because he is reckless, all he wants is for things to change and for the feud to end. In conclusion, “Believer” by Imagine Dragons would be a great song for Tybalt’s spotify playlist because of the rebel mood in the song.

If Mercutio from Shakespeare's, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have a playlist on a music app, like Spotify, one song that would be on his playlist would be, "All Star" by Smash Mouth because Mercutio is usually light-hearted, takes things like water off a ducks back, and is a very upbeat person. In 3.1.5-90 Mercutio messes around with Tybalt and shoots funny insults and puns at Tybalt who returns the insults and puns with more of both. This light-heartedness can be seen before this when the Nurse and Peter come to talk to Mercutio, Romeo, and Benvolio. He immediatley begins making rude but, funny jokes towards the Nurse and Peter. This is similar to "All Star because the rhythm of the song is upbeat like Mercutio's attitude. For this reason, "All Star" by Smash Mouth would be on his playlist because like the song both are very upbeat.

I chose "I'll stand by you" by the pretenders. In this act and scene of Romeo an Juliet, Juliet faces the question of "family, or secret husband?' Romeo killed Tybalt Juliet's cousin and Romeo got banned because of it. Juliet needed to decide if she as going to runaway with Romeo, or stand strong with her family and grieve their loss. Juliet decides that she need to "stand by" Romeo even though he did something very very wrong. This song says that even though you did something wrong I'm still going to love you. Just like Juliet implied to Romeo.

Their families don't want them together because they are enemies but they do not care because they are in love and nothing will stop them. For example, in 1.1.65-67, Tybalt tells Benvolio that he doesn't want to keep the peace because he is a Montague and that he hates all Montagues. This shows he is Loyal and with his family because his family has a long time feud with them so he is still keeping that feud. “What, drawn, and talk of peace! I hate the word as I hate hell, all Montagues, and thee.” The same is evident in “Were all in this together” because they are together and that’s how Tybalt is with his family, together in hating the Montagues. For this reason, “Were all in this together” from High School Musical would be on Tybalt's playlist because like him in 1.1.61-62 and 65-67 he is being loyal by being together with his family.

If Prince Escalus from Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have a Spotify playlist, one song that would be sure to be on his playlist would be “We Rule the Night” by Bon Jovi because the Prince is strict about the Capulets and the Montagues not fighting in the streets. For example, in 1.1.91-92, the Prince tells them that if they clash again in the streets he will put them to death: “If ever you disturb our streets again, your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace.” This example demonstrates that the Prince is not playing around and is being serious about them not brawling in the streets. The same feeling is evident in Bon Jovi’s 2004 song “We Rule the Night.” In the lyrics they sing, “All is for one and one is for all, if we take the fight then you take the fall.” These lyrics connect to the Prince because he is trying to tell them that this feud is going way too far and that if they keep attacking each other than bad consequences will happen. Another example is the mood of “We Rule the Night.” This song has a hard, serious mood that gives you the impression that you should do what you are being told or you’ll regret it. This is the mood the Prince has because he doesn’t want them quarreling anymore. He makes it clear that if a conflict were to happen once more the punishment would be death. He is a serious person who is stern about the rules of his kingdom to ensure that everything is running smoothly. For these reasons, “We Rule the Night” by Bon Jovi would definitely be on Prince Escalus’s Spotify playlist because like the Prince, the song expresses strictness.

For example, in 1.5.54-60, Tybalt spots Romeo and is immediately trying to fight him and kill him: “ This, by his voice, should be a Montague. Fetch me my rapier, boy. What! Dares the slave Come Hither, covered with antic face, To Fleer and scorn at our solemnity? Now, by the stock and honor of my kin, To strike him dead I hold it not a sin.” The example demonstrates how Tybalt is very aggressive and he wants to fight Romeo badly, Though Romeo has done nothing to him Tybalt still wants to kill Romeo. The same sentiment is evident in “We will Rock You” by Queen in the aggressive music and how the lyrics aline with what Tybalt's goals are which is kill Romeo or rock his world as the song is named as. The song connects to Tybalt because the speakers are also trying t show dominance and aggression just as Tybalt is doing in his want to fight Romeo.

If Juliet from Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have Spotify, one song in her playlist would be “Keep Holding On” by Avril Lavigne because in the song it mentions not giving up. Which fits Juliet perfectly since she is passionate, an example of this would be in 4.1.77-4.1.88. When Juliet visits Friar Lawrence, she tells him to give her a solution to be with Romeo or else she will kill herself, “O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris.” Then later on when she is about to drink the vial, she places a dagger next to her just in case the vial doesn't work, “No, no! This shall forbid it. Lie thou there.” 4.3.23. Another scene when Romeo kills himself, Juliet does the same, “This is thy sheath; there rust, and let me die” 5.3.170, since Juliet cannot live without Romeo. Each of these scenes shows how passionate Juliet’s love is for Romeo. For that reason is why “Keep Holding On” by Avril Lavigne would be on Juliet’s playlist because like Juliet, it expresses determination.

If Romeo were to have spotify, he would listen to “Ophelia” by the Lumineers. This song suits Romeo the best because it’s about a guy who’s obsessed with a girl. In the song it says “you’ve been on my mind girl like a drug,” which relates to Romeo because he’s always thinking about Juliet and how he can spend time with her. In Act 2, Scene 2 Romeo says that he’ll stay with Juliet until the remembers what she forgot, so he playfully made up an excuse to stay with her longer. “Heaven help a fool who falls in love,” can be taken in a playful tone, like they are so in love that it’s harder to focus on other things because he’s always thinking about her. The balcony scene (Act 2, Scene 2) shows Romeo’s infatuation with Juliet through the playful and flirtatious banter between the two of them. Lines 150-189 of Act 2, Scene 2 shows the flirtatious banter between Romeo and Juliet, which demonstrates the adjective, infatuated, that I chose for Romeo. It shows the struggle of Romeo trying to part from Juliet because he wants to stay to continue to talk to her and have her physical presence.

If Mercutio from Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have a spotify playlist, one song that would be on his playlist would be “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen because Mercutio is a very volatile man. For example, in Act 1, Scene 4, lines 96-103, Mercutio had spoke a soliloquy about dreams being fake very randomly after Romeo said he had a good dream. The following lines shows how startled Romeo is when he says “Peace, peace, Mercutio, peace!”, Mercutio stills goes on about the topic even after Romeo’s plead to calm down. Later in Act 3, Scene 1, lines 34-52, Mercutio was being jokeful with Tybalt, Tybalt is not in the mood and says “Mercutio, thou consortest with Romeo.” Mercutio’s attitude turns angry fast. The same attitude can be heard in the lyrics and music of “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen, the song starts with a lighter mood. As the song goes on it changes quite fast to an aggressive feel, lyrics “Thunderbolt and lightning very very frightening me” bring the anger to the song. When reading the actions Mercutio takes and listening to “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen you can see why Mercutio would include this song on his playlist.

If Prince Escalus from The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet had spotify, the song “Imagine” by John Lennon would have definitely been on his playlist. The Prince is a very logical person, who thinks the feud between the Capulets and the Montagues is ridiculous. He wants there to be peace in Verona. In 5.3.216-217, he states, “Seal up the mouth of outrage for awhile, till we can clear these ambiguities.” This is after they find Romeo and Juliet dead in the tomb. The Prince, being a logical person tells the Montagues and Capulets not to fight or attack each other until they can figure out what happened. Throughout the play, the Prince just tries to keep the peace. That’s why I think he would’ve liked “Imagine.” In the song, the lyrics are constantly talking about imagining what the world would be like if the world united together as one. “Imagine all the people living life in peace,” “Nothing to kill or die for.” I believe that this closely related to Prince Escalus. Not only did the feud disrupt his city, but because of it, two of his relatives were killed. After losing Mercutio and Paris, it would not be hard for the Prince to “imagine” life without conflict. For these reasons, John Lennon's “Imagine” would definitely be on Prince Escalus's playlist.

For example in 3.1 185-189, the prince declared that Romeo would be banished and killed going against Lady Capulet's wishes saying, “ I will be deaf to pleading and excuses, nor tears nor prayers shall purchase out abuses.” This song connects to the prince because he likes to keep things fair and understands the situation clearly. The lyrics state, “Understand, learn to demand, compromise…”. For this reason “Get the Balance Right” by Depeche Mode would most likely be on Prince Escalus’ playlist.

If Romeo from Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have an Spotify playlist, one song that would be sure to be on his playlist would be “Come Home” by One republic because Romeo is very emotional when it comes to news or finding someone new that he likes. For example, in 2.3.85-87, Romeo tells Friar Lawrence that he has now found a love that loves him back, “I pray thee chide me not. Her I love not Doth grace for grace and love for love allow; The other did not so”.The same sentiment is evident in both the slow melody and in the lyrics of One Republic’s 2007 hit “Come Home” when the speaker excitedly sings, “'And right now there's a war between the vanities,But all I see is you and me.” This song connects to Romeo because the speaker is also waiting for someone important to “come home”, and is waiting for there love back from someone, just as Romeo does, and also the song is slow pace and the song can be sad, just like in some scenes that Romeo is in,for instance when Romeo and Juliet die together. For this reason, “Come Home” by One republic would definitely be on Romeo’s Spotify playlist because like Romeo, the song expresses sadness.

The whole song "Gangnam Style" is a fun, lively song with a lot of dancing. He has a lot of fun up until his death and is the person that anyone wishes they were.

If Friar Lawrence from Shakespeare's the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have spotify, one song that might be on his playlist would be "Guilty" by Paloma Faith, because Friar Lawrence is accountable for the deaths in Romeo and Juliet by giving Juliet a sleeping potion to fake her death. If he would not have secretly married them then no one would have died except for Romeo. For example in 5.3.233 Juliet was coming to Friar for help n which h had given her a sleeping potion. The Paloma song "Guilty" when the singer is talking about her actions and she was owning what she had did, “Yeah, I'm guilty don't come near me, the one thing I'm good at is messing up somebody else baby, I'm guilty I'm turning sweet love into poison. And I got the scars, if you're talking about hurt in this love baby, I'm guilty.” This song connects to Friar Lawrence because the singer is also admitting to what they had did and they are also kind of aggressive towards the actions that they have done in their past. For this reason, “Guilty” by Paloma Faith would definitely be on Friar Lawrence spotify playlist because just like Friar Lawrence, the song expresses the fact of being guilty.

If Juliet Capulet was to have any song on her spotify playlist it would definitely be “No Air” by Chris Brown and Jordin Sparks because Juliet is so in love with Romeo and shows her love in the balcony scene. On the balcony (2.2.38-49) she is telling Romeo “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose… By any other name would smell as sweet.” Since the two families are in a fight she says this meaning what does our names matter, love is love and you can’t take that away if you really love each other and nothing can hold them back. In the song “No Air” it states If I should die before I wake” and that can relate to when she took the poison and not knowing if she is gonna wake up and be alive or if Romeo will be by her side. Another quote used in this song is “losing you is like living in a world with no air” this definitely relates to when both Romeo and Juliet talk about how they do not want to love without each other they would rather die, which results in the end them both killing themselves for each other. For these reasons, “No Air” by Chris Brown and Jordin Sparks would definitely be on Juliet Capulet’s spotify playlist because like Juliet this song expresses love.

If Juliet from Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have a music app, such as Spotify, one song that would be on her playlist would be, "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper because in the story, Juliet has rebelled against her parents many times. For example, in Act 3, Scene 5, Juliet rejects the marriage that her dad informed her about Paris. If she was faithful to her parents wishes then she would have agreed to marry Paris but in Act 2, Scene 2, she confesses her love for Romeo, knowing that her parents would disapprove since they were ancient enemies with Romeo's family. So she kept everything a secret. A similarity this story has with the song “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” was the lyric that said “My father yells: what are you going to do with your life?” This relates to the scene where Lord Capulet thought she was going to be excited about the marriage but she flat out refuses it. This makes Lord Capulet mad, so he begins yelling at her and calls her a “disobedient wretch.” For these reasons, “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper would be on Juliet's playlist because like Juliet, the song is about disobeying her parents so she can live her own life.

For example, in 4.3.14-58, Juliet speaks of how afraid she is to take the potion and explains the many things that could go wrong with the plan. Although there are many aspects that could go wrong, she takes the potion. In “Fight Song”, one of the main lines is “everybody’s worried about me.” This relates to Juliet because many people are worried about her. Capulet, lady Capulet, Paris, and Nurse are worried because she closes up after Tybalt’s death and Romeo’s banishment. Friar Lawrence is worried because he cannot be sure the letter gets to Romeo before she takes the potion. Romeo is worried because he is banished from Verona and he is aware that Paris wishes to marry her.

Another similarity between the son and the play is the line “‘take back my life’ song.” Capulet is currently controlling Juliet’s life by getting her to marry Paris. Juliet has many influences, and simply wants to be the maker of her own destiny.

If Friar Lawrence from Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet where to have an iphone, one song that would be sure to be on his playlist would be “One Call Away” by Charlie Puth because Friar Lawrence helps both Romeo and Juliet through the play. For example, in 4.1.72-76, Friar Lawrence see that Juliet is upset and unstable looking for answers when she comes to him and so he feels synthetic and decided to help her out. So he quickly comes up with a plan that will reunite her with her spouse. Friar states, “Thou hast the strength of wilt undertake A thing like death to chide away this shame, That cop’st with death himself to scape from it; And, if thou darest, I’ll give thee remedy.” This example demonstrates Friar’s compassion to assist others because even though he could get in trouble and die for it he goes ahead and does it anyway. The same sentiment is evident in “One Call Away” by Charlie Puth in the lyrics and portrait of the beats. Examples of this are in the lyrics: “I’m only one call away I’ll be there to save the day” and “And when you're weak I’ll be strong I’m gonna keep holding on” This song connects to Friar because the speaker is also telling his loved one that he will be there whenever they need help or saving from their situation. She put away her problems to make sure Juliet was okay and help get their wedding going. This same trait is evident by Bruno Mars song “Count On me” in the lyrics “You'll always have my shoulder when you cry I'll never let go Never say goodbye” it shows how a supportive tone like the Nurse is to Juliet.

If Juliet Capulet from Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have a spotify playlist, one song that would be sure to be on her playlist would be “I Want It That Way” by Backstreet Boys because Juliet wants Romeo so bad that she rather take her own life than be with someone else aka Paris. For example, in 4.1.50-67 Juliet expresses to Friar Lawrence that she doesn't want to marry Paris and that she is very desperate for Romeo. Lyrics “you are, my fire the one, desire believe, when i say, i want it that way” is related to how Juliet's “one desire” is Romeo. She wants to be with him and be happy together. Romeo is Juliet's “fire” but lyrics “But we, we are two worlds” explains a lot how their families are rivals, and that they hate each other. They grew up differently and their families would never let them be together. For this reason, “I Want It That Way” by Backstreet Boys would definitely be on Juliet's spotify playlist like Juliet, the song expresses desperate.

If Tybalt from Shakespeare's The Tragedy Of Romeo and Juliet were to have an iPod, one song that would be sure to be on his playlist would be “Family” by TobyMac because Tybalt shows loyalty to his family. For example in Act 1, Scene 1, lines 65-67, Tybalt explains how much he despises the Montagues: “I hate the word, As I hate hell, all Montagues, and thee: Have at thee, coward!” when Benvolio tries to break the fight between Gregory, Sampson, and Abraham. Before, in Act 1, Scene 1, line 62, Tybalt explains how he would just love to kill the Montagues or anyone associating with them, then and there: “Turn thee, Benvolio, look upon thy death.” These examples states Tybalt’s loyalty because the only reason why he hates the Montagues is because his family hates the Montagues. The same sentiment is evident in both the upbeat melody and the lyrics of TobyMac’s song “Family” when the singer excitedly sings, “I wanna fight for what we got 'Cause I believe in family” this song connects to Tybalt because it explains how he’ll fight for his family. For this reason, “Family” by TobyMac would definitely be on his playlist because it expresses loyalty.

If Friar Lawrence from Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have and iPod, one song that would sure be on his playlist would be “Father to Son” by Phil Collins because Friar Lawrence is fatherlike to Romeo. For example, in 2.3.95, Friar Lawrence tells Romeo that he needs to slow emotionally and physically so he can have a good relationship with Juliet: “Wisely and slow. They stumble that run fast.” Later in 2.5.9-11 Friar Lawrence tells Romeo that he needs to be patient in his relationship with Juliet so that the delights in there relationship don’t end: “These violent delights have violent ends and in their triumph die, like fire and powder, which, as they kiss, consume.” This example represents as being a fatherly person in Romeo’s life. The same idea is shared in “ Father to Son” by Phil Collins because in the lyrics he says ‘ If your heart is beating fast, then you know she’s right.” So both Phil Collins and Friar Lawrence is giving advice to someone about having a relationship. For this reason “Father to Son” would definitely be on Friar Lawrence's iPod because like 2.3.95 the song represent someone being parental.

For example, in 4.5.65-68, Friar is saying “Peace, ho, for shame! Confusions. Heaven and yourself had part in this fair maid-bow heaven hath all, and with my joys are buried!” This example demonstrates Friar Lawrence’s secretiveness because Juliet isn’t actually dead but, he is telling everyone she is. The same sentiment is evident in both the melody and in the lyrics of The Pierces pretty little liars hit “Secret” when the speaker steadily sings, “Got a secret, can you keep it? Swear this one you’ll save better lock it in your pocket taking this one to the grave.” This song connect to Friar Lawrence because the speaker is also talking about keeping secrets and if not you’ll be sent to the grave which means dead. For this reason, “Secret” by The Pierces would definitely be on Friar’s iPod playlist because like Friar the song is about secrets.

For example, in 4.1.66-67,Juliet tells Friar Lawrence that if he can not help her find a remedy to be with Romeo and avoid the marriage to Count Paris that she would kill herself: “Be not so long to speak. I long to die If what thou speak'st speak not of remedy.” Later, in 5.3.164-167, Juliet proves this by saying “ To help me after? I will kiss thy lips. Haply some poison yet doth hang on them To make me die with a restorative.” These lines say that she hopes there is enough poison on Romeos lips to kill her as well. This just goes to prove that she is willing to do anything to be with her lover. The same sentiment is evident in “ The Climb” by Miley Cyrus in both the upbeat melody and in the lyrics: “The struggles I'm facing The chances I'm taking Sometimes might knock me down, but No, I'm not breaking.” This song connects to Juliet because the speaker is also willing to persevere no matter what challenges get in the way or what it takes to get there. For this reason, “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus would definitely be on Juliet's iPod playlist because like Juliet in 4.1.66-67, the song expresses perseverance.

This is especially shown in act 2, scene 6 lines 35-40 where Friar says “come, come with me, and we will make short work. For by your leaves, you shall not stay alone. Till holy church incorporate two in one”. This is saying that he is going to marry Romeo and Juliet and wants them to be together as one. This is saying that he is loyal because of the fact that Romeo and Juliet were never supposed to be together in the first place because of the feud but he put that behind the fact that they were in love and wanted to be together and ended up helping them find a way to be together. He made a plan to fake Juliet’s death and Romeo was supposed to show up as she was waking up but there was a misunderstanding that caused them both to take their own lives ending the feud completely.

If Juliet could possibly create her own playlist, based off what we have read and analyzed. I would imagine that Xxxtentacion’s song, “Garrett's Revenge” would be there. I’ve come to this conclusion from many different reasons. One of the major reasons is the sort of irony we can pull from the song and the play. One of the lines from the song, “I’ve dug two graves for us my dear” resembles the death of both Romeo and Juliet. Apart from just the irony we can also conclude from the play that Juliet is very dramatic, in scene 5, lines 169- 170 she kills herself even though she could’ve ran away. It is also understood that Juliet wants to be with Romeo and in “Garrett’s Revenge’ the same principle can be taken out.

The same sentiment is evident in the tone and lyrics of Train’s 2009 hit “Marry Me” when the the lead speaker soothingly sings “Marry me, Today and everyday, Marry me,” This song connects to Romeo because the speaker is also asking someone he lives to marry them. For example, in 3.1.128-129, Tybalt tell’s Romeo“Thou, wretched boy, that didst consort him here,Shalt with him hence.” This example Demonstrates Tybalt’s impulsiveness because Tybalt is boldly telling Romeo you hung out with Mercutio here, and you're going to go to heaven with him disregarding the fact that Romeo just lost his best friend; however due to Tybalt’s impulsiveness he just simply does not care for Romeo’s feelings. The same sentiment is evident in the lyrics of Demi Lovato’s 2013 hit “ I Really Don’t Care” When the Speaker impulsively sing’s “ Oh oh oh I really don't care, Oh oh oh I really don't care.” This song connects to Tybalt because the speaker is also impulsively Saying thing’s due to sheer emotion and both are speaking in the moment. For example, in 2.4.62-64, Romeo is telling Friar Laurence that he met with Juliet and that they agreed to get married even though they just met the day before: “We met, we wooed, and made exchange of vow, I’ll tell thee as we pass; but this I pray, that thou consent to marry us today.” This shows that Romeo likes Juliet SO much that he is willing to marry her a day after they met before even getting to know her closely. Earlier, in 2.2.23-25, Romeo is at Juliet's house watching and observing her looks and every move she makes: “See how she leans her cheek upon that hand, O, that I were a glove upon that hand, that I might touch that cheek!” This shows that he couldn’t stop thinking of Juliet since the party earlier in the day. Everywhere he is, he thinks of Juliet. It is like she put a spell on him to love her. The same sentiment is evident in "Everything" by TobyMac in both the jolly tone and in the lyrics "I'm captivated, I'll say it, I'm on a whole new intrigue" and "Tonight is beautiful, it's got my mind on you and everywhere I turn is a reminder" This song connects to Romeo because the artist is seeing someone in everything he does. For example, in 1.4.54, Mercutio changes how he says something from good to bad which is very volatile, he says “ She is the fairies’ midwife”, which he is saying how she is. In 1.4.65-66, he says “Not half so big as a round little worm pricked from the lazy finger of a maid”, which Mercutio is saying that she isn’t the best and wasn’t picked well. This is a example of Mercutio being very volatile, he says one good thing about her then says the opposite. The same sentiment is in “1-800-273-8255” by Logic in the lyrics: “I don’t wanna be alive” and later in the song “I finally wanna be alive”. It is like what Mercutio said because in the song the mood changes and Logic says He finally wants to be alive after wanting to die, it went from bad to good, and Mercutio went from bad to good. For this reason, “1-800-273-8255” by Logic would definitely be on Mercutio’s iPod playlist because like Mercutio in 1.4.54-66, the song shows how moody it can be.

For example, in 2.5.39-44, the Nurse explains the pros and the cons about marrying Romeo rather than Paris. But even though the Nurse thinks Juliet should marry Paris, she supports her decision and says she will give him a try and see how things work out, which show how considerate the Nurse is: “Romeo? No, not he. Though his face be better than any man's, yet his leg excels all men's; and for a hand and a foot, and a body, though they be not to be talked on, yet they are past compare. He is not the flower of courtesy, but, I'll warrant him

as gentle as a lamb.” Some of the lyrics to the song “Forever like that” is “Well I'll be your rainy day lover, whenever the sunny days end and whatever the weather, we have each other

and that's how the story will end.” These lyrics are also a good description of how the Nurse is always there for Juliet and tries her best to make her happy and satisfied with her life but at the same time she makes sure that Juliet knows the right path to go on. Mercutio likes to fool and joke around with his friends. Especially with Romeo, he jokes around saying that a Rosaline has stabbed his heart with love. He also jokes around while fighting Tybalt. Later in the play he starts to joke and make fun of the Nurse. Since he is a playful person, while he gets stabbed from Tybalt, people think that he is obviously okay, even some people are laughing at him because they think that he faked his death. Also in this song, the singer starts to jokes around with people he has had relationships with. The song has a joking/ relatable message to it. For example, in 4.1.14 Friar helps Romeo and Juliet about the plan for their escape: “the friar proposes a plan Juliet must consent to marry Paris” which friar is keeping a secret so the plan will work. Earlier in 4.1.34 Friar is silent when he sends word to romeo about the escape plan. Friar says, “friar will send word to Romeo in Mantua to help him retrieve her when she wakes up.” This example demonstrates that the friar is very smart because he is helping them escape by only telling them no one else and keeping it secret so there will be no violence or mistakes. The same sentiment is evident to the meaning of the song by Marshmello’s piece “Silence” when he sings these lyrics, “I found piece in your violence, can’t tell me there's no point in trying.” This relates to friar because he’s gotten use to the violence from the feud of the families but still tries his best to be helpful and do what’s right. For this reason, “silence” by marshmello would definitely be on marshmello’s playlist.

If Friar Lawrence from Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have a Spotify, one song that would be sure to be on his playlist would be “Someone like you” by Adele because Friar Lawrence wants to help Juliet about her problem. For Example in 4.1.89-94 Friar Lawrence is telling Juliet about the plan that she is going to fake her own death. “ Take thou this vial, being in bed, And this distilled liquor drink thou off.” He tells Juliet to drink the potion and pretend that she was dead. But then instead Romeo had drank the poison and was dead and same thing for Juliet The same sentiment is evident to “Someone like you” by Adele. And in the lyrics: ‘Sometimes it love and sometimes it’s hurts’. This could relate to Friar Lawrence because he found out the Romeo and Juliet were dead together and so he didn’t really expect it. For this Reason, “Someone likes you” by Adele would definitely be on Friar Lawrence Spotify playlist because like in 4.1.89-94 the song is related to it.

If Tybalt from Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have an iPod, one song that would be sure to be on his playlist would be “Kung Fu Fighting” by Carl Douglas because Tybalt is ready to fight Mercutio and Romeo. For example in, 3.1.70-90 Mercutio is saying rude things to Tybalt like “O calm, dishonorable, vile submission!” and “Tybalt, you ratcatcher, will you walk.” Tybalt and Mercutio start fighting because Mercutio doesn’t want Romeo to fight Tybalt. Mercutio ends up getting stabbed while Romeo is trying to break them up. Some quotes 3.1.123-127 Romeo says are “Now, Tybalt, take the Villain back again” and “Either thou, or I, or both, must go with him”. Romeo gets mad because Tybalt stabbed Mercutio and now he is dead, Romeo and Tybalt start fighting. The song “Kung Fu Fighting” relates to Tybalt being aggressive and wanting to fight Mercutio and Romeo. This aggressiveness relates to when Carl Douglas sings “Everybody is Kung Fu Fighting” because Mercutio and Tybalt fight, Romeo and Tybalt fight. Carl Douglas also sings “In fact, it was a little bit frightening”, this relates also when they were fighting because Mercutio and Tybalt got stabbed and this had to be scary for the crowd around them to watch. For these reasons, “Kung Fu Fighting” by Carl Douglas would definitely be on Tybalt’s iPod playlist because like Tybalt, this song talks about people fighting and Tybalt is very aggressive and likes to fight.

If Tybalt from Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have a IPod, one song that were to be sure on the playlist would be “Loyal” by Lauren Daigle Because Tybalt is very loyal and passionate about his family with the feud between the Montagues and Capulets. For example, in 1.5.61, Tybalt says “This, by his voice, should be a Montague. Fetch me my rapier boy. What! Dares the slave Come hither, covered with an antic face, To fleer and scorn at our solemnity? Now, by the stock and honor of my kin, To strike him dead I had it not sin“. Then later into the scene,Tybalt goes up to tell Lord Capulet that a Monague is at the party he states, “ Uncle, this is a Montague, our foe, A villain, that is hither come in spite To scorn at our solemnity this night”. These examples explain and prove that Tybalt is loyal to his family by going with the old tradition of the feud with the Montagues and the Capulets and seeing that Tybalt only wants Romeo to go away because of his strong hate for the Montagues. This song connects to Tybalt because the lyrics for the song “Loyal” by Lauren Daigle says, “Your love is, your love is loyal” and is expressing a strong love for loyalty being given and that connects with Tybalt because the love and trust bng with his family cannot be broken and him not forgetting what happened in the past or the feud still lingering with the families. For this reason, “Loyal” by Lauren Daigle would definitely be on Tybalt’s iPod playlist because like Tybalt the song strongly expresses him.

If Friar Lawrence from Shakespeare's The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have spotify, one song that would be sure to be on one of his playlist would be Running Scared by Glen Campbell, because in act 5 scene 3 from line 153 to line 155 it states “I hear some noise. Lady, come from that nest of Death, contagion, and unnatural sleep. A greater power than we can contradict Hath thwarted our intents. Come, come away. And in this Friar Lawrence is telling juliet that they have to leave because he has done something wrong. And in the song Running Scared Glen Campbell states “just running scared each place we go so afraid that he might show” in this song that artist is afraid that he is going to see someone, and Friar Lawrence is afraid that he is going to get caught by the authorities and that why I think that if Friar Lawrence had spotify that he would have Running scared as one of his songs.

If the Nurse from Shakespeare’s strategy The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have an IPod, one song that would be sure to be on her playlist would be “Let Her Go” by Passenger because the Nurse gets very heartbroken after Juliet’s death. For example, in 5.1.14, the Nurse states that Juliet is dead: “Alas, alas! Help, help! My lady’s dead!” and then Lady Capulet wants to know what is going on. Later, in 5.1.97-98, the Nurse tells the Musician and Peter that this is not a good day: “Honest good fellows, ah, put up, put up! For well you know this is a pitiful case.” This example demonstrates the the Nurse has lost her daughter and now the one that she has been looking after all of these years. I think the Nurse is showing that she is devastated that she has lost both of her “daughters” and her best friend that she could tell anything to. The same sentiment is evident in both the upbeat melody and and in the lyrics of Passengers 2012 hit “Let Her Go” when the speaker sadly sings “Cause you only need the light when it’s burning low, Only miss the sun when it starts to snow, Only know you love her when you let her go.” This song connects to the Nurse because she just lost her best friend and now she has no one left. For this reason, “Let Her Go” by Passenger would be on the Nurse’s IPod playlist because like the Nurse, this song expresses grieving.

If Mercutio from Romeo and Juliet had an iPhone, a song that he would enjoy would be “So What” by P!nk because the song talks about wanting to start a fight and cause trouble which is what Mercutio enjoys doing. For example in 3.1.70-72 Mercutio insults Tybalt and challenges him to a fight: “O calm, dishonorable, vile submission! Alla stoccata carries it away. Tybalt, you ratcatcher, will you walk?” after Tybalt confronts Romeo. Later in 3.1.74-75 Mercutio calls Tybalt a cat and says he wants one of his nine lives which is his way of saying he wants to kill him. Mercutio says to Tybalt “Good King of Cats nothing but one of your nine lives.” as a response to Tybalt asking what Mercutio wants from him. The song that was chosen for Mercutio was chosen because it matches his aggression and eagerness to insult tybalt and get into sword fights no matter how many times Romeo tells him to stop.

If Juliet from Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have an ipod, one song that would be sure to be on her playlist would be “ You Don’t Own Me” by Lesley Gore because Juliet is an independent young women. For example, in 1.3.67 Juliet tells her mother and the nurse if she has an interest in paris she may consider marrying but if she doesn’t have an interest she will not marry him: “ I'll look to like, if looking liking move; But no more deep will i endart mine eye than your consent gives strength to make it fly.” Later, in 4.2.25, Juliet tells her father she went to see Romeo at Friar Lawrence's cell and Lawrence married the two: “I met the youthful lord at Lawrence’ cell and gave him what becomed love I might, Not stepping o’er the bounds of modesty.” These two scenes are evident to the song lyrics of “You Don’t Own Me” by Lesley Gore. The lyrics “ Don’t tell me what to do, don’t tell me what to say” this connects to Juliet because she wants to be on her own and have a say in her own life. For this reason, “You Don’t Own Me” by Lesley Gore would be on Juliet's ipod playlist because like Juliet, this song expresses independence.

If Juliet from Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet were to have an iPod, one song that would be sure to be on her playlist would be “Make Me Over” by Briana Babineaux because Juliet is desperate for Friar Lawrence's help regarding having to marry Paris. For example, in 4.1.51-52, Juliet tells Friar if he can’t help her get out of the arranged marriage with Paris, then she wants his help in taking her own life: If in thy wisdom thou canst give no help, Do thou but call my resolution wise And with this knife I’ll help it presently.” Then Friar Lawrence provided Juliet with a substance that would make it seem af is she were dead when in reality, she would actually b in a deep sleep then awake in the next 48 hours. Later, in 4.3.58, Juliet proves her disparity when she partakes of the potion. Juliet states, “Romeo, Romeo, Romeo, I drink to thee!” This example demonstrates that everything she is doing, is to get to Romeo. In the song “Make Me Over” by Briana Babineaux the lyrics “Again, would You just wrap Your loving arms around me” connects to Juliet because she is pleading for Friar’s help and comfort. For this reason, “Make Me Over” by Briana Babineaux would definitely be on Juliet’s iPod playlist because like Juliet, the song expresses disparity.
