after shooting the dog it shows Atticus in a new light. It is an eye opener to his kids and the town, who could all have a different reaction to his actions.

why did he shoot the dog in front of the kids? It makes me wonder if he wanted them to understand that it was out of courage, and that is why he did not shield it from them, but will this change the way the children perceive atticus.

I was surprised when Miss Maudie went up to the Radley's door to warn them about the dog because it is said they're racist and dangerous. Also, they never come outside so it was unlikely she had to do this.

At first I was confused what the sick dog had to do with the book, however once we saw in the chapter how Scout and Jem didn't really think Atticus did anything because he was old. But once Jem saw him shoot the dog, instead of him wanting to be a guy that plays football and shoots animals he wants to be a gentlemen like his dad. I think the other included this because the author wanted to convey how big of an influence Atticus is and how he is a different man in comparison to people in the town.

If we were right based off the covers, Atticus might not be able to protect them while they are running from a danger as much as they might want to because he is old. Or the cover where they were running was about the house burning down because we thought we might've seen fire.

When Atticus tells Scout it was a sin to kill a mockingbird, the mockingbird could symbolize innocence because he explains how mockingbirds do nothing but sing and cause no harm. This could apply to Tom Robinson and why Atticus is defending him and could have been intended as a lesson to Scout without getting her involved.

When Atticus shot the dog we for the first time find out about how talented Atticus used to be at shooting and it shows how Atticus never talks about himself and is always seems to be teaching his kids lessons. Everyone speaks so highly about Atticus but he never opens up about his past, showing why Scout thought her dad wasn't good at anything special leaving us to think what else do we not know about Atticus
