is. This priceless metal actually has a price

at 38 dollars a gram. That may seem like a little,

but a gram is very tiny. An ounce of platinum is

almost 1,000 dollars! Platinum on jewelry makes for

a stunning necklace but a price that could make anyone

gasp.

Even though platinum is very

rare, it is used in many laboratory

experiments and used in jewelry. Also,

many of the world's diamonds are covered in

platinum to protect them. The military declared,

during World War II, platinum would only be used

for military purposes and not jewelry.

Annually, only about 133 tons of Platinum are mined, compared to about 1,782 tons of Gold.

Platinum is the rarest and heaviest of the precious metals. All of the Platinum ever mined would fit

in the average size living room. Ten tons of ore and a five month process is needed to generate one

ounce of Platinum Bullion.

As with all precious metals (Gold, Silver, etc.), Platinum can be scratched. However, with Platinum, there is actually no material lost from the scratch as there is with Gold.
