Based on my own academic knowledge, I think that culture can be defined as the customs, traditions, or beliefs commonly shared in a specific group of people. In some way, we are all a part of a culture and it affects how we interact, think, or perceive things in our daily lives. I would define language as a form of human communication that is connected with geographical means/roots. Languages can be performed in many different ways such a speaking, writing, gestures, and more. I think we should care about both of these because in a way, language reflects cultural beliefs and in return culture shapes the way languages evolve over time. They compliment each other so well that without one of them, the other falls apart or doesn't have as big of an impact.

I think the typical definition someone would give out for culture is shared customs, traditions, beliefs like specific religions and or superstitions. But I think it goes a bit more deeper than that, culture is something that makes up a huge part of our identify. it gives us something unique and its something that we and our people can control and share. I would say that language is shared communication between humans and the language can vary depending on its geographical location. Language is a varied subject. it's not just about speech it's about writing it down or reading it. it's something that we can use to express our emotions to communicate to the world about our beliefs and thoughts and it's obviously a way to make us seen or heard. Both concepts are very beautiful and amazing and give us more to explore and admire in this world.

What is Language?

Language is the tool we use to communicate with each other. It is something we are taught from birth by our parents, and it is how we convey our ideas, emotions, and past knowledge. It is more than just a collection of words; it is a living system that enables us to share stories of our past experiences and pass down our traditions. Even if you don't understand the language, language is special; it is how we express our ideas, emotions, and past knowledge. It is how we share stories of our past experiences and our culture. But also, even if you can't speak, you can still experience culture. Language is a form of creativity; it's how we express ourselves in countless ways.

Why Do We Care?

We value culture and language because they define our humanity. They allow us to connect on a deeper level, which feels meaningful. For example, even if I've never traveled abroad, tasting local food helps me feel a connection and meet new people. We should care about learning different cultures and languages, understanding how people behave, and knowing what to say or avoid saying. It's not about finding a "right" way to live; it's about recognizing that this understanding helps us all grow more compassionate. If I didn't care about my parents past experiences or my friends cultures, I couldn't learn about people's histories. So, by caring, we gain wisdom from diverse groups, which is necessary for facing future challenges.

Language: The verbal and non-verbal communication between members of the same community. This can include everything from the way the language is set up such as by way of the alphabet or a picture format, the way the utterances are formed in the mouth and throat, to the gestures and body language.

Why do we care? It is TOTALLY fascinating to learn about people and their stories. Every person is their own library, in a way. They have a history, likes, dislikes, traditions, etc.

Language is a bit complex as it has different definitions. When it comes to spoken language, it can change constantly throughout time. Different people can speak the same language like English, but the structure in certain communities or countries can be vastly different that they wouldn't be able to understand one another fully, despite speaking the same language. There's also body language like the way we use our bodies when we speak or actual body language when verbal language isn't an option like, sign language. Language is a form of verbal or visual communication that helps others learn and speak to one another.

We care about these things like culture and language because it is what makes humanity. If we wish to learn more about ourselves there may be a culture or a language behind us that we might not know of. Learning these things teaches us more about ourselves and others.

I believe that culture is one of the many ways our values are defined as humans, and we are part of many cultures throughout our lives. Some cultures are inherited based on our birthplace, family traditions, or community norms, while others are chosen through our professions, religions, and relationships. Regardless of whether a culture is given or selected, each contributes to shaping the values we hold dear. Culture acts like a compass, guiding our behaviors, beliefs, and interactions with others. Culture is not static, it evolves as we grow, adapt, and encounter new experiences. If culture were a canvas, our values would be the brushstrokes, painting a portrait of who we are and how we connect with the world.

In the same manner, language is more than just words on a page or tongue, it’s the heartbeat of human connection. It allows us to express ideas, emotions, and beliefs, forming the foundation of how we understand and shape our culture. Language is pivotal in defining our values, as it gives voice to the principles and traditions we live by. Dialects, accents, and idioms often reveal where someone comes from, offering a glimpse into their cultural background. Though we may adopt new languages or ways of speaking, the ones we grow up with often leave lasting imprints on our identity. If language were music, culture would be the lyrics, the two together creating a song that tells the story of our lives.

I believe culture is the way people in different areas of the world live, think and experience the world around them. I've had the chance to experience this firsthand by traveling to different countries during my time in the Navy, where I got to see and experience many unique cultures and customs. For example, the way people dress, carry themselves in public, greet others, and communicate. Those experiences really opened my eyes to how diverse people's way of life can be.

Language is the unique way people communicate with one another - through words, tools, signs and expressions. It is interesting to see how far language goes back, and how it transforms with time.

I care about language and culture because I care about people. I want to better understand and appreciate where others come from, how they view life and the world, and how we are able to connect in many different ways, even if we are from opposite sides of the world.

When I think about culture, I think of how people act, what they value, and even what they learn. This all comes from where you are raised, the things you are taught, and what you experience and are exposed to.

When we talk about language, I think of it as the most common communication form. No matter where you are from, everyone has a language, even if they are all different!

I think of culture and language as such a beautiful and interesting thing just because there is so much history and information behind it, that I feel like you just keep learning more and more about it! It also allows us to understand where other people come from and their background as well!

Language is the way species communicate. I say species instead of people because humans are not the only ones using language to communicate. Animals, plants, and even computers have languages to communicate. Language also goes beyond speech and text, it's also signs and body posture and gestures.

Personally, I think language is difficult to truly describe. To put it simply, it is the way in which we communicate with other humans and express ourselves and our thoughts. I think however, that it is more complex than that. I believe it is one of our greatest tools for survival as well as one of our greatest expressions of love. Humans don't just communicate with each other, we communicate with everything. We talk to gods we can't prove exist, animals that cannot understand us, and inanimate objects that can't even hear us. We talk to things because we love them and want them to understand us. We teach animals to understand bits of our language, we teach infants to talk, even if we have to learn a whole knew language. Deaf babies with hearing parents don't simply come out knowing sign language. Their parents take the time to learn a new language because they want to communicate with the person they love most in the world. People learn whole new languages for a partner simply so the person they love can feel more at home. We know which flowers are poisonous because someone died and the people who loved them couldn't bear to see another person suffer the same fate. We tell stories passed down from generations because one person 100 years ago loved someone so much they couldn't bear to see the memory of them die after their physical body was gone. So to me, language is love, and the knowledge that love passes down.

We care about culture because we care about the people we love. We continue the traditions begun by our ancestors because they were loved enough for their knowledge to be passed down. Some traditions are old, like shoving face in cake, and some are newer, like Home Alone marathons and cookies around the holidays. I will continue the traditions begun by my mother and grandmother long after they pass because it will remind me of them, and the children that come after me will do the same.

We care about language because we want to understand the people that came before us and the people that we love. We want to know how they feel and how they experience the world.

Language, on the other hand, is simply a form of communication. However, it goes into culture as members of any group that speak the same language are able to share ideas and express themselves to the fullest extent whether it be through spoken, written, or signed language.

Language and culture are both vital aspectts of human life. They shape how we live, communicate, and connect with each other. While they are different, they are closely linked, with each influencing and reflecting the other. Language goes beyond more than just a set of words, it shapes the framework for expressing thoughts, feelings, and ideas. It helps people communicate clearly, build relationships, and create communities. Through language, individuals share knowledge, tell stories, and convey meaning in various ways. Culture is a shared system of values, beliefs, behaviors, traditions, and customs that define a group of people. It affects how individuals live, interact, celebrate, and express their identity. Culture shapes views of the world and social norms, influencing everything from daily habits to long-standing practices. The connection between language and culture is interlinked and mutual. Language serves as a tool for expressing cultural identity, passing on traditions, and preserving heritage. In return, culture shapes language through unique communication styles, vocabulary, and expressions found in specific communities. Together, language and culture enable people to show their individuality while also being part of a larger community. Understanding one often requires knowing about the other, as both are essential for human interaction and social progress.

Language is a part of your identity of who you are as an individual. It starts when you are born and your parents begin speaking sounds and words to you. As you develop you are able to imitate what has been spoken to you even if it doesn't sound the same to the ear, it has the same meaning. Through the development phase you began to learn the language that is in your culture, lineage, and heritage. Culture influences this language. If your parents are dual citizens, you may be able to speak several languages and learn different cultures. Our outlook in society has a lot to do with our culture, with what we seen and learn in our culture. This can come from grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins and siblings. They have a saying it takes a whole village. I believe with language and culture, it takes everyone imparting this in our lives. We are surrounded by differences, that helps to shape us. We are raised by influence that help to shape us, we learn from our peers, that also is a part of the shaping process of our language and culture. As we get older we have the choice to change our language and culture to something else or strengthen what we have learned and taught. Language and culture have an impact on who we are today.
