My reactions towards the poem written by Walt Whitman and the film Dead Poets Society is quite depressing because it highlights the main struggles in life. It also shows how transcendentalism may not always be the practical way of life. Both Whitman and Neil from the movie Dead Poets Society question life's existence because they believe life is pointless when it gets to a certain extent. They both feel desperate or like fools because they don't know what the point of living is if their goals are “petty” and how not much goodness comes out of their great efforts. I agree with Whitman at the end when he states the good is we live at all, but I disagree with Neil’s decision of ending his life.

My verse will be to give back to what mother nature has given us for granted and to bring happiness to other individuals with my future occupation. I want to plant tree seedlings around my city and community because I believe that under all of the city lights we should appreciate nature the most due to all the wonderful aspects of life it's a part of. Whether it's planting the tree yourself, hugging the tree, or harvesting the produce that came from the seedling, all of these activities lead to happiness. Hopefully, as I go around trying to make an effort of bringing trees back into the city, others will be inspired and start doing the same even if it's in their backyard. Watching my family plant in their garden or watch the first tomato grow off the vine inspired me to make it a part of my verse. Another crucial part of my verse is to become a dentist or orthodontist in the future. Not only do trees make people happy, but so does having straight teeth. It makes me upset when someone cannot smile because they either have crooked teeth so I want to be the one that can help them overcome this insecurity and show off their beautiful smile.
