Monroe Doctrine- December 2, 1823

The Monroe Doctrine is a U.S. policy toward the Western Hemisphere that warns European nations to stay out of further colonization in the west. By the mid-1800s the Monroe doctrine mixed with ideas of Manifest Destiny, provided an argument and support for U.S. expansion. Manifest destiny led to problems in the future over slavery the other events like the trail of tears.

13 amendment- January 31, 1865

The 13^th amendment was a document that abolished slavery and forbid chattel slavery across the US, except as a criminal punishment. The ended all the discourse and disagreement about the issue of slavery. After the civil war this document finally but this argument to rest and the constitution now applied to everyone no matter of race or ethnicity. The amendment prevented future conflicts over slavery's legality.

Many people were suffering during this time but because of policies like the new deal and banking reforms the economy was able to recover. These reforms and policies impact how the country is run to this day.

MLk speech- August 28, 1963

MLK’s "I Have a Dream" speech was delivered during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963. The speech was about civil and economic rights and ending racism in the United States. This speech sparked the movement for equality, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 which ended racial segregation in the United States.

9/11 was a turning point that caused the Global War on Terrorism and triggered the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq. Because of this event the Patriot Act was created which allowed the government to monitor criminal and terrorist communications. Internet service providers could voluntarily disclose customer records to the government. It also changed the way we travel and the creation of TSA.
