Helping Students Collaborate with one Another

I believe teaching students to work together is one of the most beneficial ways to learn. When students are able to understand each other it not just helps them with the lesson, but it helps them socialize with each other. Learning how to interact with peers is a huge component of moving forward in their lives. When you learn to ask for help not just from a teacher but from another student you are opening up another access to education. When students can work together they can understand team work and they can learn differently. A student explaining to another how they understand something may be more beneficial than the way a teacher initially explained it.

This topic is as relevant as it has always been, actually maybe more. With technology students are able to shut each other out and work more independently. However with new tools as teachers we are going to be able to keep up with the changing times and utilize this technology. Helping students collaborate on papers and presentations. Even playing games online together if they can to keep them in touch and working together.

I really feel that this is beneficial. I have been a student in a classroom and I have been an observant in a classroom. I see how there may be students off by themselves working, I understand that some may prefer it that way. However, I feel that there may also be a disconnect, these students may not understand how to reach out and interact. It shows that they could be maybe excelling either academically or socially, developing all the skills they need to succeed.
