The second article tackles the issue of property disputes, notably the mental health impact (especially on children) of raids and the threat of demolition by Israeli security forces. It highlights the constant trauma and fear placed on the Palestinian people and the difficulties they face in attempting to own their own property as Israeli forces seek to make room for more Israeli settlers. In particular, it focuses on the impact on children, highlighting that the way home invasions are orchestrated is in breach of the UN Convention on the Rights of Children.

In this article, 10th September 2021, it is seen that Palestinians (notably the Palestinian Authority) has agreed to help Israel in the search of some escaped inmates who were able to flee from Israel's "heavily fortified prison complex". The cooperation on this 'manhunt' seems to have caused certain political and social issues. Some Palestinian people disagreed with the collaboration of defences and protest through throwing stones at Israeli troops. On the other hand, the continued unrest between Israel and Palestine would, as the article and namely al-Akhbar's report said, destabilise the West Bank and Gaza and boost rivals Hamas and Islamic Jihad

Re-arrest of "political heroes"

Palestinians in prison in Israeli territories are seen as political prisoners and heroes, as they are fighting for liberation. 6 Palestinians broke out of Gilboa prison, but have now been re-arrested, which has caused uproar and sadness throughout Palestine, as it is seen as another setback. There was violence among the locals in the area against the police with explosions, fire and rocks all being used. Palestinians seem to take pride in their prisoners as they are fighting for civilian rights, Palestinian territory and freedom.

Poor treatment of Palestinian inmates

Six Palestinian inmates, are on hunger strikes, until Israeli authorities inform them what they have been charged with and when they will be released. Many in similar positions are forced into solitary confinement or forcibly relocated. However, after the uproar of the re-arrested inmates, hundreds of other prisoners are preparing to go on a mass hunger strike by the end of the week in support of the rearrested escapees and other fellow prisoners. There are currently 4,650 political prisoners in Israeli prisons, 200 are child prisoners, and 520 are administrative detainees.

i find these two articles interesting as it shows the impact that the US has as an outside global superpower so as to speak on the current situation and power balance. i think it is especially considring the strong religious ties of not only both countries involved, but also of the USA. I cannot help but be reminded of past military situations that the USA has waded into in the past and the destabalising effects that had when thinking about the future of this conflict

Within the space of less than forty-eight hours, Israeli airstrikes killed around 700 people in Lebanon, injuring over 2,000 others according to the Lebanese Health Ministry; many of the casualties were women and children.

On top of this, thousands of homes across Lebanon have been destroyed or damaged, spanning from the southern villages along the border to the capital, Beirut, all the way to the north of the Bekaa Valley.

Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, even published his video message to the people of Lebanon, where he says “Hezbollah has been using you as human shields”, stating that “they’ve placed rockets in your living rooms” and “missiles in your garage”.

In reality, Hezbollah stores its missiles in a labyrinth of tunnel systems underground.

They aren’t telling specific people to evacuate their homes in their text messages and flier-dropping missions, they are threatening them with airstrikes if they live in an area they have chosen to bomb indiscriminately.

After Israel's attack on Hezbollah through pagers, and the targeted killing of Hezbollah commanders, analysts predict that Israel's next course of action is through launching a ground invasion in southern Lebanon. This is due to the reduction in the threat of Hezbollah's military might as armaments and Hezbollah terrorists have been eliminated. Due to Hezbollah rocket fire in the north of Israel, there has effectively been a lockdown in order to protect civilians. If an invasion does occur, or doesn't, both outcomes suggest that a deal would have to be reached with Hezbollah - possibly with the chance of a deal with Hamas as well.

Israel has assassinated Hezbollah military commanders, Ibrahim Aqil and Ahmed Wehbe. This comes after an Israeli airstrike in southern Beirut.

Wehbe was specialised in training Hezbollah terrorists between 2007 and 2012, with him being promoted in early 2024 to being the commander of Hezbollah's Radwan Special Forces.

Aqil was Chief of Staff of Hezbollah from the mid -1990s, and was later given charge within the Jabel Amel Operations Unit between 1997 and 2000. Aqil was a commander during the 2006 Lebanon war between Hezbollah and Israel, in which he was instrumental in establishing and leading the Radwan Special Forces. In 2008 he was the Deputy to the Secretary-General for operations affairs - also being an architect in creating the Operations Department of Hezbollah. Aqil was also a member of Hezbollah's Jihad council - overseeing Hezbollah's military and internal security.

Furthermore, Aqil was also active in the east of Lebanon, directing attacks on opposing Islamic groups with 'Takfir' beliefs according to Hezbollah. Aqil's most recent posting was commanding the Radwan Special Forces operating on the southern border with Israel since the 6th of October terrorist attack.

4 missiles were fired by Israeli jets in the assassination of Wehbe and Aqil, and according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, that 31 people were killed, mostly Hezbollah terrorists, with 68 wounded. (14 terrorists along with commanders)
