It erupts very frequently.

Background:

Mayon is the archetype of a symmetrical stratovolcano and one of the world most active ones. It has frequent eruptions producing pyroclastic flows, mud flows and ash falls that repeatedly triggered large-scale evacuations. Mayon's most violent eruption, in 1814, killed more than 1200 people and devastated several towns.
the volcano rises 2462 m above the Albay Gulf and has very steep upper slopes averaging 35-40 degrees capped by a small summit crater.
Historical records of eruptions date back to 1616 and range from strombolian to basaltic plinian, with cyclical activity beginning with basaltic eruptions, followed by longer term andesitic lava flows. Eruptions occur predominately from the central conduit and have also produced lava flows that travel far down the flanks. Pyroclastic flows and mudflows have commonly swept down many of the approximately 40 ravines that radiate from the summit and have often devastated populated lowland areas.
--- Last update: 29 Dec 2016 (light volcanic unrest, inflation, degassing)
Typical eruption style: Explosive.
Mayon volcano eruptions: 1616, 1766, 1800, 1811(?), 1814, 1827, 1834, 1839, 1845, 1846, 1851, 1853, 1855, 1857, 1858, 1859, 1860, 1861, 1862, 1863(?), 1868, 1871-72, 1872, 1873, 1876, 1876, 1881-82, 1885, 1886-87, 1888, 1890, 1891-92, 1893, 1895, 1896, 1897, 1900, 1902(?), 1928, 1928, 1939, 1941, 1943, 1947, 1968, 1978, 1984, 1993, 1999-2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2003(?), 2004, 2006, 2009, 2013

Last earthquakes nearby:

Time | Mag. / Depth | Distance | Location
Sat, 16 Sep
Sat, 16 Sep 02:19 UTC | M 2.0 / 3 km | 11 km | 003 km N 71? Its eruptive history is characterized by the emplacement of lava domes and associated pyroclastic flows. The summit of the volcano, known as Mount Scenery (or The Mountain), is a Holocene lava dome that overtops a major collapse scarp that formed about 100,000 years ago. Flank domes were constructed on the SW, SE, east, and NE sides of the island near the coast. A large andesitic lava flow entered the sea on the NE flank, forming the Flat Point Peninsula, the only site level enough on which to locate the island's airport. The village of The Bottom overlies pyroclastic-surge deposits that contain European pottery fragments and were radiocarbon dated at 280 +/- 80 years before present. The village was settled in 1640 on grassy meadows on the volcano's flanks reflecting initial vegetation recovery following destruction of tropical rainforests by pyroclastic flows and surges. Lava dome growth may also have occurred during this SW-flank eruption.
---

All of these eruptions are concentrated on Volcano Island, an island near the middle of Taal Lake. The lake partially fills Taal Caldera, which was formed by prehistoric eruptions between 140,000 and 5,380 BP.[2] Viewed from Tagaytay Ridge, Taal Volcano and Lake presents one of the most picturesque and attractive views in the Philippines.[3] It is located about 50 kilometres (31 miles) south of the capital of the country, the city of Manila. The volcano had several violent eruptions in the past causing loss of life in the island and the populated areas surrounding the lake, with the death toll estimated at around 5,000 to 6,000. Because of its proximity to populated areas and its eruptive history, the volcano was designated a Decade Volcano, worthy of close study to prevent future natural disasters. All volcanoes of the Philippines are part of the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Babuyan Claro is a stratovolcano with an elevation of 843 meters (2,766 ft) and a base diameter of about 8 kilometers (5.0 mi) located in the center of Babuyan Island (also referred to as Babuyan Claro Island).[1][3] It has four morphologically-fresh volcanic edifices: Mt. Cayonan in the south, Mt. Naydi and Mt. Dionisio in the southeast. Babuyan Claro has two very well-preserved craters 300 and 400 meters (980 and 1,310 ft) in diameter.[2]The Askedna Hot Spring is located at the southern basal slope of Babuyan Claro. It has a temperature range of 44.6 to 50.2 °C (112.3 to 122.4 °F). The water is slightly acidic and the silica content is relatively high since the spring flows directly from lava flow deposits. The spring water can be classified as near-neutral sodium chloride brine.[1]

Mayon (Central Bikol: Bulkan Mayon, Filipino: Bulkang Mayon), also known as Mayon Volcano or Mount Mayon, is an active stratovolcano in the province of Albay in Bicol Region, on the large island of Luzon in the Philippines. Renowned as the "perfect cone" because of its symmetric conical shape, the volcano and its surrounding landscape was declared a national park on July 20 of 1938, the first in the nation. It was reclassified a Natural Park and renamed as the Mayon Volcano Natural Park in 2000.[3] Local folklore refers to the volcano being named after the legendary princess-heroine Daragang Magayon (English: Beautiful Lady).[4]

Contents [hide]
1	Location
2	Geomorphology
3	Recorded eruptions
3.1	1814 eruption
3.2	1881–1882 eruption
3.3	1897 eruption
3.4	1984 and 1993 eruptions
3.5	2006 eruptions
3.6	2008 eruption
3.7	2009–2010 eruption
3.7.1	Government response
3.7.2	International response
3.8	2013 phreatic eruption
3.8.1	International response
3.9	2014 renewed activity
4	Deadly lahars
5	Monitoring Mayon
6	Philippine Currency
7	Gallery
8	See also
9	References
10	External links

Mount Balungao is an extinct volcano located in Pangasinan, Ilocos Region, on the island of Luzon in the Philippines.
