Since the 19th century, our schools have been organized in a way that there's only one person in the position of power (the teacher) and all of the other people in the class have no control over their learning process. If you think about the word "aluno", you can clearly see what I'm talking about. It comes from the latin word "alumni" which means "no light". So the students would be there to be enlightened by the teachers, since they supposedly have no light, no knowledge what so ever.
