One morning a man saw a unicorn eating flowers in his garden. He roused his wife to tell her about the beast, but she told him that he was a booby and that she was going to have him put in a booby-hatch. The man never liked that words. As soon as the man had gone out of the house the woman called the police and the psychiatrist and told them that her husband had seen a unicorn. The men thought instead that the woman was crazy and got her into a strait-jacket; right in that moment the man walked into the house and the psychiatrist asked him whether he had seen the unicorn or not and he answered that the unicorn is a mythical beat and of course he had not seen it. The police and the psychiatrist then took the woman away and the man lived happily ever after

James Grover Thurber (December 8, 1894-November 2,1961) was an American author who was born in Ohio.
Both of his parents influenced his work. His father was an employed clerk and minor politician; his mother was a joker. He had two brothers.
He became well known for his drawings and cartoons.
Thurber wrote more than 75 fables.
These were short stories that featured anthropomorphic animals as main characters, and ended with a moral as a tagline. An exception to this format was his most famous fable, The Unicorn in the Garden, which featured an all-human cast except for the unicorn, which doesn't speak.

Even if I am not a fan of fantasy stories I enjoyed reading this one, beacause there were a lot of realistic elements.
In fact I don't understand anything when I read fanstasy stories but this one really caught me.
The surprise ending is really satisfying, because I thought that the man would be sent in a booby hatch, but at the end the woman was.
