Azariah Dollar

									Per.1-	1/14/2020

Growth Mindset is when you don't give up on something, and even though your bad at it you find ways to overcome it, and get better at it. There are some famous people who had this trait of growth mindset. One famous person that has this is Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan, one of the greatest basketball players of all time; did not make it on to his highschool basketball team. Michael Jordan went home and locked himself in his room and cried. Michael Jordan did not give up, he did not say, “ Oh im not good enough, I give up!” Instead, he went and practiced and practiced and practiced until he was good enough to make it on to the team next year. Michael Jordan did not have a fixed mindset. That is what made him a great basketball player , and brought him into the Nba. In my life, I have a growth mindset with probably everything; I do not like giving up at anything, and even if I know that something is not for me, and I wasn’t born to do it, I still try my best, and most of the time I succeed. In basketball, I like everyone who plays sports have overcome a lot of challenges, and pain in my life to succeed in basketball, for example; Right now I have shin splints, and I have a basketball game against our school rival tomorrow, Hollywood High. I am not giving up, even though it is hard for me.My first year of highschool, I also like Michael Jordan got cut from the basketball team. I didn’t say I wasn’t good enough, I just went to the park ,and a basketball gym , and focused on next year to make it on the team. After a hard year of work, and shooting around, I made it on the team as a shooting guard, and if we need a point guard or small forward, I play those as well. All of this happened because I have a growth mindset and not a fixed mindset.

Per.2 1/14/2020
Having a growth mindset means that your always eager to learn new things and you never give up on what your pursuing yourself it's also having a determination over something as well. Your always being shot down but you always get up and try again you don’t let a simple no get to you and you. Also having confidence in your ability to do a certain thing and being able to do it well with practice and with failure and those failures aren’t a bad thing there a good thing cause your learning from that failure as well. Also having a sense of something called grit. What grit is is basically having determination. Having a growth mindset to me is basically being able to bounce back from anything and having a crave to learn and make your brain stronger. That’s how I think about it. A celebrity that kept refusing no as an answer is Dr.Seuss he got his book rejected in a whopping total of 27 times. He kept going, he kept bouncing back from those publishers saying no their not going to publish his book. Until one publisher said they will publish his book. Same goes with other celebrities they had many failures to achieve what they achieved at this moment . Another example is Micheal Jordan he got kicked off from his middle school basketball team and then a couple years later he became one of the best of all time. For me I can improve thinking better and instead of taking every failure I have as a big deal I should take it as a learning experience instead. Just look on the bright side of things instead of the negative side and of course bouncing back from that loss I had received. Also having confidence in myself for like every new thing I do and with practice I will get better at it in no time. That's why I need to have a growth mindset.

Per.2 1/14/2020
Growth mindset, I believe it's the strength in learning and intelligence. For example, if someone really wants to achieve something they will put their time and effort until it leads to higher achievements. Our brains are like muscles, the more you work on it the bigger and stronger it gets. It does matter how many times you fail because that's a way to learn from your mistakes and make it ten times better, but there are people that would rather give up and not push through it. There are a lot of people who didn't think they can succeed in their life at first but that never stops them from getting to what they are now. For example, Oprah Winfrey is a talk show host, media executive, actress and billionaire philanthropist. She’s best known for being the host of her own, wildly popular program, The Oprah Winfrey Show. At first she didn't succeed her dream, but that never stops her she kept trying and she achieved it big. That shows that her growth mindset was on succeeding and living in the hills like she told her dad. Another person who didn't succeed in the beginning was Michel Jordan, he didn't make it onto his highschool basketball team. But that didn't stop him, he kept practicing everyday and he made it to the NBA. Anyone in the same situation would have given up. If I want a successful life and have the right mindset I will achieve big things. What I mean by that is no matter how many times life fails me,I will keep reaching to the top get the money to help me and my family.

Period: 2
1/14/20
A Growth Mindset is the belief that your most fundamental abilities can be improved with hard work, dedication, and determination. With it, comes the love of learning and working through tough moments. Having this mindset about learning to get better and gaining the knowledge is essential for significant accomplishments. Many successful and significant humans carry this prominent trait such as Michael Jordan, Albert Einstein, Walt Disney, Oprah Winfrey, Abraham Lincoln, Steve Jobs, The Beatles, Thomas Edison, Dr Seuss, Lionel Messi, and even Eminem. The Beatles were a Music Group that had heard from many people that their music was not “good”. Albert Einstein, as a child, was often put down because of his intelligence. Who knew what and what he would grow up to be. I use Growth Mindset to achieve success in my life by overcoming fear and lack of knowledge. Having received my first job, the insecurity and inexperience was clearly shown. I wasn’t sure of what to do with the asks set upon me, so I decided to ask questions. Having to speak to people I didn't know didn’t necessarily scare me, I just was not used to it. I asked a numerous amount of questions and by doing that, I now know where all plates and utensils go. Going into my work, I am required to deliver certain food items to the cooks. Everything from pizza sauce to black squid ink noodles is carried by me from the walk- in freezer to the stove where the cooks and chefs are. Walking into a successful restaurant business with no experience and a growth mindset helped me get to where I am today. Pushing myself through bad days made me realize I’m mentally strong and fully capable of the work.

Period 2
1/14/2020
Growth Mindset is when you control your own destiny and have the ability to push yourself forward. Life is unpredictable, but people who have growth mindset are usually prepared to learn, fail, and face their challenges in their lives. Instead of just giving up, people with growth mindset try to find solutions through unexpected situations and turn their weaknesses into their strengths. A great example of a famous person with a growth mindset is Shaun White. If you are not familiar with him, Shaun White is a successful athlete. He falls firmly in the extreme sports world, as a skateboarder and snowboarder, from right here in SoCal. Starting from a young age he became a professional athlete, broke a multitude of records, and won a bounty of gold medals in both the Olympics and the X Games. But I was surprised when I read an article saying that Shaun came up short in the 2014 Sochi Olympics. He didn’t win any medals. Shaun White is a superb athlete, but he didn’t medal in Sochi even though he had many other gold medals, does that make him a failure? He was quoted as saying “You’d think losing would be the end of things, but it was just the beginning. Instead of letting it destroy me, I sat back and asked myself, ‘What do I really want to do now?”. Shaun White’s success has continued because of his growth mindset. He could have let not medaling in Sochi devastate him, but he didn’t, he looked at it as an opportunity for growth. The 2018 Olympics opened in Pyeongchang, he bounced back from the mistake he made four years ago and won gold for the men half pipe event to redeem himself. I can use growth mindset to chase for success by having confidence in myself and being fully aware that the greatest teacher is failure.

AP Environmental Science

Silverstein

January 14 2020

Growth Mindset

If you believe that you can learn anything through time, practice and effort you have a growth mindset. Unlike a fixed mindset where you believe that people are just born smart, people with a growth mindset are able to gain more knowledge in life since their determination to stop learning never deteriorates. People with a fixed mindset choose to avoid challenges in order to avoid failing. Without failure you won't be able to learn from your mistakes and people with a growth mindset use this to their advantage. Someone with a growth mindset views failure as an opportunity to learn and grow. Many famous people who had been deemed as failures have become some of the most successful people. For example, Dr. Seuss’s books had been rejected by publishers countless times until he was finally able to get his works published. Now Dr. Seuss is known as one of the most successful authors with many famous works. Although it took him a long while to get to where he is now he never gave up and continued to work to achieve his goal. You can gain a growth mindset by believing in your ability to improve and by practicing failure. Through grit (aka determination and the ability to stick with it), everyone can achieve a growth mindset.

Growth mindset all begins within you and how much you dedicate yourself to your own success. It is guaranteed that someone with a growth mindset will have way more success and will get further in life than someone with a fixed mindset. Someone with a growth mindset won’t give up no matter how many times they fail, they use those bad experiences to learn and grow them, the failure is their motivation to step up and become better than their past mistakes. Someone with a fixed mindset doesn’t advance in life, they are mediocre and are satisfied with the bare minimum and don’t care to improve from that to make their life better. When you have a growth mindset you are open to constructive criticism to help you learn from your past mistakes to help you not repeat them and be better from them, that’s the difference with someone who has a fixed mindset who thinks that their bare efforts are fine and that there is nothing wrong with them and aren’t open or get offended by the feedback from others. Lionel Messi was a boy whose dream was to become a great soccer star, he grew up in a small town in Argentina, he had a hormone problem that was affecting him and made him different from the rest of the boys, and many people didn’t want him on their team because he was too “small” and “weak”. He never gave up and then got an amazing opportunity, he got scouted to one of the biggest clubs in Europe and got the medicine for his growth hormones for free. Messi had an amazing growth mindset, he never gave up despite everyone talking down on him and became the player who made history, with six Balon d’Ors and most importantly made his dream a reality.

Period: 2 1/14/2020
Growth Mindset: People believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work-brains and talent are just the starting point. There are famous people who had this trait. Walt Disney was an american motion picture and television producer and showman, famous as a pioneer of animated cartoon characters films. Fired from a newspaper for “lacking imagination” and “having no original ideas.” Everyone fails and its normal. Walt never just said his work was good enough he knew there could always be work done to it. When people told him he was going to fail he tried anyway and never gave up. Whenever Walt Disney was working on a project, he always accepted peer criticism. When in the creation of Mickey Mouse, he had tried three different versions of one and two didn't sell so instead of giving up he instead worked really to make his last one better. Before the making of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs he still wanted to make a cartoon but in the length of the full feature film. Everyone thought he would fail and called it “Disney’s Folly” but he did it anyway. Another good one is when he made Mickey Mouse, his wife and his friends helped him and gave him criticism that he always used. I can use a growth mindset to achieve success in my life is by replacing the word “failing” with the word “learning.” When I make a mistake or fall short of a goal, I haven't failed, I've learned. Also learning and realize people's mistakes is a lesson because it's not always wise to compare yourself with others, but it's important to see that humans share the same weakness.

Per: 1 1/15/2020
Growth mindset refers to the way we face challenges and setbacks. Having a growth mindset is very beneficial. Having a growth mindset does not only mean being open and accepting the comments of others. It means accepting them and learning from experience, and thus developing strategies to improve. It is to believe that you can achieve it even if you fail at something.
Albert Einstein was a German physicist of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries (born March 14, 1879 and died on April 18, 1955) known primarily for the development of the theory of relativity (special and general) and the theoretical explanation of Brownian movement and photoelectric effect. Albert Einstein was also something else: an icon, a media figure and a great social impact. He knew it well, and aware of it gave him very precise guidelines on what he wanted for himself. From the beginning, he showed some difficulty in expressing himself, because he did not start talking until the age of three, so he seemed to have some delay that would cause him some problems. Unlike his younger sister, Maya, who was more vivacious and cheerful, Albert was patient and methodical and did not like to exhibit himself. In 1908, at the age of twenty-nine, he was hired at the University of Bern, Switzerland, as professor and lecturer Einstein obtained the position of professor of theoretical physics, the equivalent of professor, at the German University of Prague, having to adopt nationality Austrian to be able to access the position.24 At this time he worked closely with Marcel Grossmann and Otto Stern. He also began to call the fourth dimension mathematical time".
He had a big mentality, Einstein's work on the photoelectric effect would provide him with the Nobel Prize in physics in 1921.

Those people don’t see mistakes as a bad thing but as a way for them to learn from it.

An example of a famous person who had this trait was Einstein. He wasn’t able to speak until he was 4 and that might seem pretty old for a kid to start talking but later on he became very known for his discoveries and inventions. Another famous person who worked hard was Steve Jobs because he got fired from a company he started but he then became famous for his work with the company Apple. Einstein and Steve Jobs aren’t the only people who continued to work hard even when things got tough. Dr. Seuss, one of the best authors for children’s books was rejected by 27 publishers and was still able to become a very famous writer. Just because you fail the first couple times doesn’t mean that you won’t get anywhere. The only way to get better at something is to continue trying.
I can use a growth mindset to achieve success in my life by seeing failure as a way for me to learn from it and push myself to work harder.

Period 2
1/17/2020
Having a growth mindset is to be able to learn from your mistakes and practicing to do better next time. How can you improve? By doing this you have to believe in yourself. By practicing any mistakes you have done and work harder to achieve your goal. For example, The Beatles acknowledge and embrace their mistakes. When they started they weren't good. At first they started off by doing little concerts. They improved a lot by practicing. They view the opportunities and challenges they had to improve and practice to be better. Even though The Beatles got rejected by Decca Recording studios they killed it in the 60s. People may view the Beatles bizarre because their music is psychedelic rock, which is very unique compared to other type of music. And a lot of people put the Beatles down, but they were just doing their own thing because they didn’t care about being unique. The Beatles impact this world by their music style and their voices. The Beatles are legends that never gave up. They started small and got so massive. They will forever be legends. I have to believe in myself and apply myself because having a fixed mindset will be hard. I have to learn new skills to discover new things about myself and stop being harsh on myself. I have to view failure as a learning experience because people will fail sometimes. Failing is completely normal. I know there will be challenges in my life, but I have to find a way to be positive. If I fail a test, I can practice and improve. Anyone can be good at anything as long as they practice and try hard.

A growth mindset is something that advances through your brain overtime making you smarter from what your learning. Also meaning that different people have different mindsets which can be made smarter not all at the same time. Some people may be able to read and write than others because other people get to learn a little earlier than other people. A mindset can also be where people think to themselves about not giving up on learning and other people would just give up. Also other people can ahve the ability to learn more maybe due to there families or different schools they go to. A growth mindset can also have people failing on things, but overtime they can make up for what they did and not make the failure happen again. Even if you dont get it the second or third time you can always try again everytime you fail. As of me, I would always fail the first time but after I would laways try again. Like math, I wouldnt know how to do the equations because sometimes I wouldnt pay attention. But after if I failed I would try again and start to pay attention.

1/21/2020
period 5
Growth Mindset: is a self-theory that people hold about themselves. If either they are intelligent or unintelligent. Also a growth mindset is when you want to run after a goal you have. For example if you have a growth mindset you say you can do anything or you learn from your failures and you challenge yourself to do something. Some people have their mindset related to their personal life like if they are a good student or a bad student. A famous person that have this trait is eminem he had a lot of hate from people because they said his music wasn’t good and they underestimated him. But eminem didn’t give up and he kept going on with his career. I can achieve a growth mindset by not giving up and learn from my mistakes and also to work really hard to achieve my goal. I can also challenge myself to do better.

Per.6
1-21-2020

Many people think that the brain your born with is the one you stay with for the rest of your life that would mean that if your smart you were born smart and if your dumb you were born dumb but that wrong. The mind grows with the more you exercise is like working your body muscle out. If you don't work out you mind your mindset/brain won't grow. Many people who were seen as failures became famous. For example Albert einstein he didn't speak fluently until he was 9 years old and got expelled from school for rebellious behavior even thought he had fail in many ways he became a bug face in science and won a nobel prize with his research.

Growth Mindset in my own words is when you think you can do it but your mind says you could really do it. It changes decision. A famous person and my favorite soccer player who had this trait was Lionel Messi. He was 11 years old when he was diagnosed with a Growth Hormone which he was smaller than all the kids. But look at him now. He has 5 Ballon d'or, 4 Champion League Trophies with Barcelona, 11 domestic cups, 8 league titles, 3 UEFA Super Cups, 3 Club World Cups, and 1 Olympic Gold Medal. He really did say Size Doesn't matter. Growth Mindset is dedication to hard work and achieve your goals! For example as a kid Lionel Messi never gave up and what did that bring him too? The Best Player in the world and lots of trophies! He really is one of the best soccer player's in our generation. Growth mindset is also kind of a decision because your brain tells you to give up but your body says keep going. It's a back and forth conversation. It's kinda like player a game that you found hard but then you get used to it and it's fun but the thing I hate is because you easily get bored and the reason is your too good for the game.

Period 6
1-21-2020
Growth mindset is the mindset that people themselves have to believe in order to succeed. A growth mindset is the complete opposite of a fixed mindset. A fixed mindset gives the believer the attitude of, “If I'm not good at the beginning, I will never be good.” A growth mindset gives room for growth in the person. Growth mindset people think that failures are good. Failures are good because we learn from them. To learn something, it is always going to be difficult before it becomes easy. In the beginning, your mind is empty not because you are stupid or dumb, but because you simply haven’t learned yet. Anybody can become good at anything as long as they practice. That the mindset that is known as a growth mindset. Michael Jordan, one of the most well-known basketball players in the world, locked himself in his room and cried after he was cut from his high school basketball team. If Michael Jordan didn’t continue in basketball, he would have never won 6 championships with the Chicago Bulls. If Michael Jordan didn’t have a growth mindset, he wouldn’t have been named the greatest athlete of the 20th century by ESPN. I use growth mindset in my life to learn new things and grow as a person. After being diagnosed with cancer at the age of 12, I fell into a deep depression and all I wanted to do was sleep all day. There was a point where I had just given up. But instead of staying in the terrible condition I was in, I decided to grow and get better at the things that I couldn’t do or was bad at. When I was going through chemotherapy I would stay in bed for weeks at a time. Also, the chemo I was getting took a toll on my ability to walk. Everyday I was in the hospital, I had to use a wheelchair because walking would make me too tired and I was like that for about 9 months. All these things stacked up on my ability to walk but instead of staying in bed and staying in the wheelchair I decided to start walking again. Thanks to my growth mindset. Today I can do pretty much everything anybody else can when it comes to walking and running.

Growth Mindset: The type of mindset people have within them to help them believe they can succeed to the max. A lot of people are different and with this comes different mindsets for each of them. You are able to learn from your mistakes and better understand why you made them and how you can improve.

One example of a famous person having a spectacular Growth Mindset has to be Oprah Winfrey. Growing up her life wasn't all peaches and cream. Moving all the way to Milwaukee with her mother, she was repeatedly abused by two boys that lived with her. After trying to run away, she was sent to a detention center were she was denied access because there was no more beds. After moving with her dad, Oprah won the Miss Black Tennessee and was then offered a job at a radio station. Oprah then went on to host a show and then later hosted her own show. The show was later renamed The Oprah Winfrey Show. Winning numerous awards, she went on to become a famous billionaire.

Within the future, I plan to better myself in what I choose on doing. I plan on seeing my mistakes as something that can help to become a better person. With this type of mindset, I can achieve way more and what I desire.

Mario Quinonez

Period:7

1-21-2020

Growth mindset in my own words that people themselves have to believe in order to succeed. A growth mindset is the complete opposite of a fixed mindset. A fixed mindset gives the believer the attitude of, “If I'm not good at the beginning, I will never be good.” For example, this person had a growth mindset in my perspective. His name is Josh Jacobs he is a rookie for the raiders and he plays running back. When he was little he was homeless. He always wanted to buy a house for his father. He grew up with the mindset to buy a house. Until one day he was able to buy a house for his father. He also passed Marcus Allen, setting the Raiders rookie record for rushing yards. .Sunday afternoon against the Detroit Lions, Jacobs broke Marcus Allen's record for most rushing yards by a rookie with 708 rushing yards, going for 88 yards in the first half along with two touchdowns. My second example is Lamar Jackson. He is a another nfl player that caught my action. He grew up with a mindset saying if this is the position I want to play well, let it be. When he got to combine the nfl analysts were saying he should be a receiver. People were always telling what to do. So he had a mindset to not give up has QB and keep his head up. In his second season has a raven he broke a great nfl record. The record he broke was Michael Vick's mark for single-season rushing yards by a quarterback. Jackson eclipsed the record on a 5-yard run in the first quarter of the Ravens' 42-21 victory over New York Jets and finished with 86 yards on eight carries. It was so unbelevie. What am trying to say it doesn't matter what can't you afford or people judging you the way you want to do things. You have to believe in yourself and keep your head up.

Mindset is basically a set of GOOD beliefs or a way of thinking that determines one's behavior, outlook and mental attitude. Some famous people that had to do with failure but still succeeded is Michael Jordan, Albert Einstein, Oprah Winfrey, Walt Disney, Lionel Messi, Steve Jobs, Eminem, Thomas Edison, The Beatles, Dr Seuss, and Abraham Lincoln. In order for me to use growth mindset, i need to think positive about myself. If i'm gonna have a growth mindset, i cannot think bad about myself. I can not doubt myself. And i need to stay POSITIVE. That is how I will succeed in my life. Like for example, if im doing a test, I need to stay positive about passing the test. I can not think about failing the test because I will be thinking about a Fixed Mindset. A fixed mindset is a person who doubts themselves, and doesn't believe in themselves. If i have a Fixed mindset, i won't become what I want to be in the future. Because I won't have the power to be positive.

You don’t give up even if people try to bring you down. An example of someone well known is Walt Disney, he was fired from a newspaper for "lacking imagination" and "having no original ideas". He didn't let that stop him and look at what he has accomplished. He is the creator of Mickey Mouse and also a winner of 22 academy awards. If he would have listened to those people he would have not achieved all those things and not have so much fame like he does now. While growing up I was being bullied in school and everything they would tell me I would always let it get to me. I never felt good about myself. My therapist tried her best to stop those thoughts to get into my head. I didn't have a growth mindset I had a fixed mindset, I always thought and told myself I wasn't able to do it and gave up easily. As I was getting older I started to believe in myself and not care what people had to say about me. I know sometimes I don't do my best in certain things but I know that next time, I will try my best and give it a bit more effort.

Growth Mindset in my definition is when you don't give up even when you have tried and failed many times. You believe in yourself through the good and the bad times. Most people fail once and give up right away. People who have a growth mindset keep trying until they have reached their goal. J.K Rowling was rejected by 12 book publishers for the story Harry Potter, it is now the best selling book series. She got rejected 12 times and still kept trying because she knew in her gut that it was a great story. She didn't give up til she reached her dream/goal. Someone else who had a growth mindset was Walt Disney. He is so successful even though he has passed but without his impact in the world, it would be very different. He created Mickey Mouse, Disneyland etc. He was kicked out of a from his animation job as a cartoonist for "not being creative enough... lacked imagination and had no good ideas." Little did they know that later on he created Disney. He was also nominated for 59 academy awards. That inspires me to not give up on my dreams because if people told them they weren't good enough, that means I am capable of anything because look how successful they are. I know now to never let anyone put me down because I am capable of what I want to do.

period:1
1-27-20

My definition of growth midest is the ability to have the mindset of using your mistakes to your advantage & being able to persevere through a challenge. A mindset like this would allow people to be more successful & grow more as a person when it comes to difficult problems. A big part of growth mindset is to use a mistake you made to your own advantage when trying to overcome your challenge by remembering that you already tried that so you know it won’t work again. Famous people who had this type of mindset are: Albert Einstein, Walt Disney, Michael Jordan, & Steve Jobs, to name a few all had this type of mindset when tackling their challenges. For Example Walt Disney was told he “lacked” imagination & he had “no original ideas”, he turned out to create one of the most successful companies out there. Another example would be Steve Jobs he got kicked from his own company & was so devastated, but he overcame that challenge & ended up making Apple one of the most notorious phone brands. Both of these people had this mindset & overcame their challenges & made it to the top.

Ariel Romero / Period 1 / 1/27/20

Emily Bacaro In a growth mindset people are believed to have the most basic abilities that can be developed through dedication and hard work. Through not giving up when you have failed time and time again. Some examples of people who demonstrate growth mindset are Albert Einstein, Walt Disney, Michael Jordan, Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey and the Beatles. Albert Einstein wasn’t able to speak until he was about 4 years old, teacher said he would amount to anything. Walt Disney was fired from a newspaper for “lacking imagination” and “having no original ideas”. Michael Jordan was cut from his basketball team he locked himself in his room and cried. Steve Jobs was devastated and depressed after being kicked out of the company he started. Oprah Winfrey was demoted from her job as a new anchor because she “wasn’t fit for television”. The Beatles were rejected by Decca Recording Studios who said they don’t have a future in show business. These are all examples of growth mindset. Each of these successful people had setbacks but this didn’t stop them from working hard and overcoming the challenges to be great. I use growth mindset in my success by staying focused on my goals being able to push through. In setbacks I don’t just give up I try my best to do better.

period: 5
01/29/2020
Having a “Growth Mindset” is when someone looks at things in a positive way ,

so they think they are capable of anything. You will be eager to improve your knowledge and willing to make changes. Using a growth mindset to achieve success in life is by having the confidence in yourself and believing in yourself. The feedback you received you use it as a good source in order to know what to fix and to encourage you to keep practicing. There were many different famous people that had a growth mindset , which made them succeed in life. For example , Walt Disney was told that “ he had no good ( original ) ideas.” This was feedback he got, but he didn’t take it in a bad way. He acknowledged this feedback and fixed the issues he had. So instead of taking the criticism in an offensive / negative way , he learned from it. Another famous person who had a growth mindset was Dr.Seuss. His first book was rejected by 27 different publishers , but that obviously did not stop him from trying. When he was walking back home from being rejected for the 27th time, he bumped into Mike McClintock , which was an acquaintance from dartmouth college. Mike told him to go to his office so he can take a look at the book and he did not deny that chance. So, it wasn’t for him going to his office he would have been in the dry-cleaning business today.

Period: 6
01/29/2020
Growth Mindset is the concept of using your mistakes to your advantage by seeing them as a lesson and using them to improve in whatever aspect you failed. This means that instead of becoming discouraged and inheriting a negative mindset, you use positivity to allow yourself to see the bigger picture and this assists you to not live in the moment which will only bring you down and not help you mentally mature. With a growth mindset, you are able to dedicate yourself in improving your errors and as a result this will benefit you greatly on the long-run and will allow you to excel in respect to that subject matter. A few great examples of well-known individuals who possessed a growth mindset throughout their professions or careers were, Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan, and Steve Jobs. Oprah Winfrey was demoted from her job as a news anchor because she “wasn’t fit for television”, she is now worth $3.1 billion dollars. Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team so he locked himself in his room and cried, he went on to be one of the most famous basketball players in the world. Then there’s Steve Jobs who was devastated and depressed after being kicked out of the company he started, he was later asked to return when the company was struggling financially and it is now worth $1 trillion dollars. These are excellent examples of very inspiring human beings who did not let negativity manifests itself in the outcome of their work, they pushed through challenges and bumps along the route to success. This mindset has allowed me to catch up on credits in order to put myself on the path to graduation and to success.

Noemi Verdugo

Period : 7

January 29,2020

A growth mindset is the ability to learn and improve and taking control of those things, even when you fail. There are many examples of people out there who have experienced growth mindset. For example, Oprah Winfrey was demoted for her position as news anchor because she “Wasn’t fit for television”. Micheal Jordan was cut from his basketball team which caused him to lock himself in his bedroom and cry. Albert Einstein was not able to speak until the age of 4 and his teachers said he would not amount to anything. The Beatles were rejected by Decca Recording Studios who also said “They don’t have a future in show business”. Steve Jobs was depressed after being kicked out of his own company. All those “celebrities” that demonstrate growth mindset, cause even after being rejected, demoted, cut and ect. They were able to get to the place they were by working harder than before and not giving up. I use a growth mindset to try to achieve my goals so that I can be successful in the future.

Melanie Castillo
Period 7
January 29, 2020
A growth mindset is a perspective of how you see your goals and failure. It’s when you accept challenges and work hard and put in more effort. An example of a very well known person who’s mindset was a growth mindset is Albert Einstein, he wasn't able to speak until the age of four. Not only that but he didn’t receive support from teachers, they said, “ he would never amount much”. But that didn’t stop him from discovering the potential he had. Einstein took the challenge and embraced it, he didn’t give up when it got hard for him. After overcoming the tough problem of not being able to speak, Einstein later in his life made the theory of E=MC2. Another famous example of someone who has a growth mindset would be Micheal Jordan, who after getting cut off from his high school basketball team, he went home and cried. But that’s not where he stopped he took this failure and started training and joined the National Basketball Association (NBA). He didn’t give up when someone tried stopping him from his goals. Later on in Jordan’s life, he is some a 6 time NBA champion, 5 time NBA MVP and 4 time NBA all-star. These are famous examples you can take. We all have times where we feel as if we are failures and there is nothing we can do to fix that, but we are wrong. As a persona example, I wasn’t good at math. I’d easily get confused or I’d get anxious when I got a quiz on Fridays. I would automatically think I’d fail the quiz or I’d solve a problem and feel insecure about my answer. Then I decided that I couldn’t let this problem follow me to high school so I decided I needed to do something about it. I asked my older sister who was always great at math to give me some tips and to help me complete my homework. I also stayed after school for extra help from my math. I started taking notes in docent color pens in order to memorize what steps to take. I took my challenge and faced it with effort and hard work. At the beginning, I would still do bad, but I would take the criticism from my teachers and classmates and then go over my test. And soon little by little I started to get better and better. And now I successfully get As in math and get better test scores. Anyone can have a growth mindset, you just have to start by thinking differently. Next time you're about to say “ I give up” say “I’ll use some of the strategies I’ve learned” or when you fail at completing something for the first time don’t say, “ I’m not good at this” say “what am I missing”. Because sometimes it might be the smarts detail that is throwing you off, but you can’t let that stop you. You can take the examples of the success of Albert Einstein, Micheal Jordan, Oprah Winfrey, and so many other famous people, and get inspired they all came from failure and grew into success. It all takes Grit, any successful person in anything from business to music have grit in them. Because grit is the strength of your character, and character is all you need to face the challenges life gives you.

Melanie Castillo
Period 7
1/29/2020

Angel Torres
Period 6
January 20, 2020
A growth mindset is a perspective of how you see your goals and failure. It’s seeing the light at every tunnel. It’s not giving up. Always working harder. Never giving up. It’s about thinking that failure is a chance to learn. You have to practice for what you want to do it you will not just be good at something without working for it. For example Micheal Jordan one of the best basketball players in the world was kicked off his 10th-grade basketball team. He locked himself in his room and cried but then he tried harder. Look what he became. Another example is Albert Einstein. He couldn’t speak till he was 4 and teachers said he would amount to nothing. Look at him now he became a famous inventor. He also won a Nobel Prize. Another prime example is Walt Disney. He was fired from a newspaper for lacking imagination and having no original ideas. He created Mickey Mouse. He has movies and TV shows. Mickey has a big part in Disney Land. It also means that you have to always work for everything you want. Nothing will be handed to you and you always have to keep on a fight no madder what people say. They will always try to bring you down. I used a growth mindset in my life. An example is that I made the team last year but there was someone better than me that came in midway through the season and I got cut. Yea I was sad for a few days but then I started to go to the gym and playing pick up games and practiced. Now this year. I’m a starter for the JV basketball team and I just told my self not to give up and practice.

Coles

Silverstein

AP Environmental Science

14 January 2020

Growth Mindset

A growth mindset is the belief that you can always improve upon your skills, abilities, talents, and passions. With a growth mindset, one takes advantage of these opportunities and challenges, learn from their mistakes. In contrast, a fixed mindset is the belief that you must be born with the natural talent to do something; if you weren’t born with it or naturally good at a skill, you can’t and won’t get better at it. Everyone has the option to choose a growth mindset rather than a fixed mindset. Changing the way you think can be a defining factor in your success. For example, improving your grades through hard work and study, rather than just being smart. When it comes to academics and grades, smarts do not always guarantee success. With “smart” students, some may be afraid to take challenges in fear of disappointing their reputation, and the less naturally intelligent may be more open to challenges. To develop a growth mindset, it is important to first acknowledge that no one is perfect, and everyone can grow. It’s important to ask yourself questions instead of fatalistic statements. When you think, “I can’t do this,” ask yourself instead, “How can I learn?” Even some of the biggest and most successful celebrities were called failures at one point. The Beatles, Albert Einstein, Walt Disney, Steve Jobs, and many others were told they wouldn’t make it, but with a growth mindset and hard work, they became some of the most successful people in the world. Maintaining a growth mindset has also been an important part in many aspects of my life, such as learning new languages, improving my art, and taking AP/College courses.

Gabriela Sanchez 1/15/2020 Period:2 In my belief, I think anyone can achieve anything in life. It’s all up to yourself in being able to have confidence, determination, and dedication into achieving your goals. Having a growth mindset is one of the traits to be able to succeed. Having a growth mindset is to be able to build your confidence and determination into something you want to achieve. It’s about setting your mind with something you want to learn and be able to accomplish. It's also being able to fail without bringing yourself down or thinking your not good enough in fact it’s being able to see your mistakes and learn and practice how to be able to achieve what you set your mind to. It’s being able to chase what they want to do instead of running away or giving up easily just because they aren’t where they want to be. There are many people that contributed to growth mindset such as Einstein. When he was 4 years old, he wasn’t able to speak and he is now known as a famous over his inventions and discoveries. He also didn’t get into his school he wanted because he did not pass a general exam but he never gave up ended up getting admission to the school. There are many well known people that had this trait such as Dr. seuss, he is well known for his books, but little did you know that he had been rejected 27 times before becoming a successful author. In order for me to be successful and achieve, I need to be able to push myself and not give up so easily. I need to be able to try my best and put my all instead of putting my half. I want to be able to build the confidence I don’t have. I want to be able to be a social butterfly without being socially awkward. I want to be able to go to college and find who I want to be. In order for me to do this I need to be able to have a growth mindset.

Jesus Diaz

Period:7

01/31/2020

A growth mindset is how you perceive your future and goals. Whilst noticing the failures that will appear before you so you can succeed from them. Every successful businessman, athlete, and politician had to work hard to get to where they are at. A wonderful example of this how Abraham Lincoln went through some many defeats he failed twice in business. He lost the elections eight times. He even suffered a nervous breakdown he should everyone that as long you don’t quite you will eventually succeed. He is even considered to be on of the greatest president in the history of United States History. While only given only one example of growth mindset this just made me reassure that no matter what challenges that come my way I shouldn’t let it hold me back. A man who ended slavery failed so many times in his life. These can be shown to young teens and young adults even if you fail in life you will succeed as long you kept trying it took Stephen King 31 submission to a publisher for his book carrie he was rejected 30 times but as soon as he was about to give up completely his wife told him to try gain and as you know, he became a top tier author with best selling books. In schools today we should be taught that it’s ok to fail but to never stop trying to succeed because every successful person has failed but they all succeed in the end by not giving up. Writing and explain growth mindset made me realize that just because I fail once that doesn’t mean I am not going to succeed it just means that I have to get up again and try until I succeed. In this life there is no try just do and once you do it you will go places beyond that you never thought you could reach because you never gave up on your goals and future.

An example I will be giving is billie eilish when she barely started her career she was a dancer, it was her passion sadly one day while dancing she broke her leg and couldn't dance anymore. She was so devastated because dancing was a way to cope with her depression. At first she did give up on finding ways but then came her brother Finneas and started to show her more about music and somehow just for fun they created an EP called don't smile at me. What they didn't know was that one of their songś they created was going to blow up everywhere once they posted it on soundcloud. The song was called ocean eyes it was streamed everywhere including snap chat. Billie and Finneas started to go to small and venus and play their music until one day that got recognized by a record label called interscope records and thatś where her career started. She didn't give up and found a newer solution to her problem which was a new coping skill writing music with her brother and getting huge now she is a 18 year old girl with five grammy awards.

Nineth Panameno
Period 6
January 31,2020
My definition to Growth Mindset is, how you receive something positive in your mind. When people get negative mindset they do dumb things. They bring negative thoughts to not only them but to other people that are around them. When you have a positive growth mindset, the positivity that they have, can give and show a better energy to the people around them. Growth Mindset is not only what you give to other people but it’s the way you think of yourself. It shows your future. You have to succeed even when you face problems. Growth Mindset is the ability to learn and improve, even when you fail. Albert Einstein's growth mindset was that he didn’t give up. He kicked out of school at a very young age and the teachers said he was just too dumb to lear yet, he excelled in math and science but didn’t get into the school he wanted to. Someone who has a growth mindset believes that it’s hard work that will help them achieve. It’s a different view than those who think that it’s talent and intelligence that will lead to success. Those with a growth mindset know that brains and talent are just a starting point. It takes determination and effort to actually use those talents to succeed.

Wendy Pineda Period 2 Growth Mindset A growth mindset is when someone looks at things in a positive way and not in a negative way and learns from it. You have the ability to learn and improve and taking control of those things even when you fail. A lot of people out there have experience growth mindset. Some of those people are Albert Einstein, Walt Disney, Michael Jordan, Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey and the Beatles. All these people had a bunch of setbacks but not one of them decided to give up they learned and pushed thought it. They all had struggles that made them who they are today and become successful. I use a growth mindset to be successful in school and to stay focused on my goals. I think anyone can achieve anything in life as long as they believe in themselves and don't give up. It's all about them if they have confidence, determination, and dedication into achieving their goals. You have to set your mindset to think that even when your failing and not doing good you learn from it and become better. For example Albert Einstein when he was four he wasn't able to speak but yet now he is known for his inventions and his discoveries. Walt disney was fired from his newspaper job for lacking imagination and look at him now with so many disney parks and owning marvel. Micheal Jordan was kicked off his basketball team and went to his room and cried but he didn't stop doing what he loved. All these people struggled but that didn't stop them they pushed through it and use the negativity into changing and becoming better. If you want to be successful nowadays you have to accept the criticism you get and you use it to become better in what you want.

Do you know what Growth Mindset means? Well today I’ll be talking about Growth Mindset, Growth Mindset means when you can overcome basic/hard abilities through your hard work. For example, never giving up. If you give up based on your mistakes, you won’t learn from them, and therefore that means that you don’t have hope on yourself. In my opinion, you have to have hope/faith in yourself, to overcome your obstacles. For instance, many famous celebrities that are big now had their ups and downs, they had people doubting them, just like Dr.Seuss. He’s now one of the best selling Children author in history, it wasn’t easy for him to get to the top he had a rough start. His book had been rejected by 27 publishers, that’s an obstacle he had to overcome, imagine facing adversities like financial trouble, rejection, discrimination and even more. I feel like anyone else would’ve given up, but just how he said “Don’t give up! I believe in you all! A person’s a person, no matter how small! And you very small persons will not have to die, If you make yourselves heard! So come on, now and TRY!”he's a great example of having a growth mindset, and at the end of the day I feel like if you don’t give up then it’ll be worthy. Also, I feel like his story inspired me because sometimes I doubt myself too much, like in sports. Sometimes I feel like I’m not good enough but then again I say to myself, “If I don't try it out, how am I going to know if I’m capable of doing it”, and even if I ever mess up in playing that sport. I just start thinking negative stuff, but then again everyone makes mistakes and you learn from them, you’ll face those mistakes sooner or later to be successful.

Cindy Lopez Per 5
2/2/2020

"....But I'm trying to give you the life that I never had...." - Eminem. Eminem as a kid was told that he would never accomplished anything in life. he grow up with a abusive step-father and a drug abusive mother. with the quote i provided above shows that he is working hard to give his daughter opportunists that he didn't get as a kid even tho he might not be there for his daughter all the time. The most important thing to him is his daughter. with this my definition of a growth mind set is something that motivates you to work hard for he did everything for his daughter as a baby till Kim filed for divorce and got custody. but even with that he worked hard to become one of the most well known and reseeded rappers and helped Kim out with Hallie after she got custody. now that's a mindset work to give your daughter a bright future.

Growth mindset is the belief in which ¨a set of beliefs or a way of thinking that determines one's behavior, outlook and mental attitude¨.A great example of famous people having a good growth mindset is Albert Einstein as he was always told he would ̈Never amount to much ̈ due to the fact he wasn't able to speak until he was 4,but his determination to do better and learn from his failures made him one of the smartest people in the world.Another great example of growth mindset is Oprah Winfrey as she was being demoted from her job as a news anchor being told she wasn't fit for television but,as time passed got her own talk show as well her own production company and her half share of the OWN network. In order to have Growth Mindset you have to have the determination to always tell yourself you can do Anything in the world without giving up as things progress harder in any way and learn from mistakes.A way to achieve Growth Mindset you have to acknowledge and embrace imperfections and viewing difficult obstacles as a opportunite and not failure and learn from them to achieve your goal.

Growth mindset helps me personally to change my look on turning in my work.It helps me by that not everything has to be perfect. I just have to stop thinking negative and just positive.Like a example of growth mindset is Eminem. He was a kid that was told he would not come out to be anything in life but did he let that stop him no now he is a hip pop legend. But thinking about that people told me that I can't be as smart as my brother and i say i don't want to be like him i'm my own person. But growth mindset helps out so many people by changing their mind on everything. But there's so many famous people like Albert Einstein, Walt Disney, Michael Jordan, Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey and the Beatles. But all these people had a growth mindset because now they are famous for different things. They did not let anything get to them they just tried harder.

The term growth mindset to me is the ability to be able to take an obstacle or difficulty and turn it into a a strength by learning from it. Everyone has the ability to use this but it just takes time to develop it and slowly make it stronger this ability grows along with you the more you use it. There have been many examples of successful people who have achieved this state of mind and have made notable achievements for example Michael Jordan one of the most successful and all time famous basketball players had this trait he was able to overcome the obstacles that he faced and worked incredibly hard to achieve his goals. Although I am aware of this ability and the fact that if I put myself in this state of mind then I'd progress a lot I don't use it to its full potential but if I did then I would be very successful in a lot of my work and passions if I just put in the necessary time and effort.

Allison Ramos

Per.5

1/21/2020

Growth Mindset: I believe that a growth mindset is when you choose your path by expanding your knowledge and you learn from your trial and errors and try to succeed in life. We develop as we grow our mindset changes through time. On the other hand, there are people who are close-minded at first but through hard work and devotion, they change it can also affect people around them it inspires them and others to work harder towards there goal. Usually, for me, I am a very close-minded person because my family believes everyone is already born with a talent you can’t develop one and I guess that really affects me which leads to me giving up easily, luckily for me I have friends who are very open-minded that push me a lot to do my work even if it’s not that good. For example, Wilma Rudolph she’s an example of an open-mindset she had polio as a kid and doctors said that she didn’t have a chance of ever walking and even running but she was determined and she worked hard and became the first American woman to win three gold medals in the Olympics one of her quotes that stick to me is “Never underestimate the power of dreams and the influence of the human spirit. We are all the same in this notion: The potential for greatness within each of us”

Growth mindset is the ability to change your perspective and grow a new set of skills. To always think of other solutions and to never doubt yourself. Failure can turn to success and putting effort into goals, without doubting their abilities. A growth mindset is analyzing and accepting a challenge. Some examples of some famous people with a growth mindset are J.K Rowling, she was rejected by twelve publishers before Harry Potter was accepted. Walt Disney was turned down three hundred two times before he got financing for creating Disneyland. Dr. Sues first book was rejected by twenty seven publishers. Albert Einstein didn’t speak until he was four and didn’t read till seven, yet he became the face of modern physics and won a Nobel prize. You use a growth mindset to push yourself to success and ignore failure, it can be used in a weight loss journey or to pass all your classes with A’s. Having a growth mindset, allows you to achieve success by giving to the mentality to keep on going and grinding even harder.

Caroline Equite
Period, 1
02/20/20

Growth mindset is having the mindset to either bounce back when you’ve fallen or being able to surpass the level of thinking when you need to.
Logan Paul has a Growth Mindset, with all the incidents that he’s had over the years he’s always comeback better and more mature. With that said he’s made good progress from the incident he had a couple years back and is now becoming a sort of icon for being someone who went from being hated to being loved. He shows a growth mindset by the way he’s able to ignore the hate and step up to fix what he’s done. I believe that I show a growth mindset in school by always being able to get my grade up when it’s fallen. A lot of people tend to give up when their grade has dropped from best to worst but when I see that issue I tend to get it back up. I also see a growth mindset at home with the way I live being that I have a lot to do at home from taking care of people to cleaning up. People my age are pretty lazy but my growth mindset makes me able to realize what I have to do and executing what I have to do. I can use this growth mindset to become what I want to become which is therapist. I believe to be one you need to know patience and you need to know when to speak and when not to speak, having a growth mindset will push me forward in my career.

A growth mindset is the ability to motivate, inspire, and push yourself to do the best you can be. No genius, athlete, or self made millionaires started off where they are now. No genius was born with the gift of knowledge, no athlete was born with the power to lift and run, and no self made millionaire started off bathing in money:.. everyone started from nowhere. One example of this is a man who was once told he wouldn't amase to anything in basketball due to his short stature is Muggsy Bogues. Muggsy being 5’3 was told at a young age that he would never amase the the greatness of many point guards he looked up to from the NBA because of the vast difference in height. Even thought he was told this, he never let his doubters get to him. He went on to be the 12th pick of round 1 in the NBA Draft. He later went onto play for 4 different basketball teams including Charlotte Hornets, and the Golden State Warriors.

3/6/20
The way that you can have a growth mindset is by having a positive attitude and not giving up on your work. The way that you can keep a positive attitude is by not giving up and not saying that you can't do it because that attitude will get you nowhere. When you have a positive attitude then you will be a good thinker and you will get ideas and the answers. When you have a growth mindset you will be an open thinker and you would ask questions and solve problems.
