A funny look at how tones, volume and gesture appear in typical couple arguments. If you ignore the audio, just focus on the body language and gestures, and speed it up - there are similarities to duets seen in TBTP. McCullagh used inspiration from two people disagreeing to create the duets seen in the dance.

Frustration is a key emotion experienced during arguments where your opinion isn't being heard. There are many gestures and movements seen in TBTP where the dancers express frustration. This is seen through their sharp and explosive energy qualities, and fast tempo actions. Many of the gestures are performed using arms / wings - leaning into the phrase "getting oneself in a flap".

LINK TO COSTUME: the costumes are designed to reveal flashes of red as they raise their arms or jump in frustration. This mirrors the red underbelly feathers seen on the feisty Kea, which are only revealed when the birds flap or raise their wings.

Communication between the dancers in Trees, Birds Then People (in the middle and predominant sections of the dance) has broken down past the point of reasonable conversations. They no longer 'hear' each other when they're talking directly to each other - they talk over the top of each other, and about each other.

When there is miscommunication in relationships it can lead to arguments. In the dance, they all argue with each other and this is shown through their movement and some of the lighting choices eg. red lights during conflict represents anger and frustration & arguments

This relates to the dance because the miscommunication in the older birds relationship meant that he chose the younger bird over her

miscommunication leads to squabbles and misunderstanding; most often leading to a full argument or fight. This could end in hurtful words or actions, especially because in fights small physical aggressions will most likely occur.
