Liberty today is the freedom to act and express oneself and make decision about how we live and what we believe. But, there are limitation you cant ignore the law or endanger others.   

Do you believe we have lived up to this ideal in society?

People nowadays have in some ways lived up to the ideal of Liberty, however are still being limited by outside influences and excessive force from police sparking movements like BLM to achieve that liberty.

Liberty in 1776 meant political freedom, or the right to participate in public affairs. Additionally, it meant civil liberty, or protection from power of the government to interfere in people’s lives.

Liberty today means the freedom to make choices about who we are, what we believe, and how we live.

The U.S. has not fully lived up to the ideal of liberty because systemic inequalities, such as racial discrimination, persist and limit access to equal rights and opportunities. Government policies and practices, like mass incarceration and voter suppression, have also taken away the principle of freedom for all citizens. Additionally, the influence of large companies has restricted true liberty for the citizens.

Influence of this ideal in 1776: The people had run their local governments for many generations, so colonists were familiar with the workings of democracy. In town meetings and colonial assemblies, colonists had learned to collaborate to solve common problems. In colonial times, only White, adult, property-owning men were permitted to vote or hold office.

Influence of the ideal today: The debate regarding who should speak for the governed was long and arduous. Despite having gained the right to vote, many people today do not use it, and their lack of participation raises challenging and compelling questions. Today, the right to vote is universal for all American citizens over the age of 18. Do you believe we have lived up to this ideal in society?

Yes, we think that we have lived up to this ideal because to this day, every US citizen who is over the age of 18 has the right to vote. Every president's potential power is all determined by the voices of the people because every person has the ability to vote.

In 1776 the ideal of equality was mostly based on christian beliefs but there was no equality for half the million people enslaved neither for women in the colonies, women were seen as inferior to men.

Regardless of gender, race, and physical ability, many laws today ensure that everyone gets equal treatment. However, not all these laws apply to every state, and most of these laws are not heavily enforced, which causes unequal treatment among individuals in today's society. 

Have we lived up to this ideal?

Yes and no. We have lived to this ideal while many politicians are trying as hard

 as possible to implement more and more policies of equality into our government. However, we haven’t fully lived up to this ideal because a lot of areas of our government are not equal. For example, women usually don’t get equal pay for the same jobs as men, and the justice system is often biased against people of colour.

Influence of ideal in 1776: In 1776 when this ideal was created there were so many different levels of social classes, they were not all equal. In that society, the ideal of equality was the expectation and not the rule, meaning it was not an common ambition at the time. There was also no equality for many enslaved people.

Influence of the ideal today: Overtime have become more equal to each other 

Do you believe we have lived up to this ideal in society: I think some of us have. A lot of people think everyone is equal, but it's not like that, many people get treated differently because of their beliefs, color of their skin, religion, and much more. 

Debating rights today: The debate over what rights our government should preserve began more than two centuries ago, with the writing of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and continues to this day. The Constitution (and its amendments) specifies many basic rights, including the right to vote, to speak freely, to choose one's faith, and to receive fair treatment and equal justice under the law.
