When he gets there though , he is shocked to realise that the camp is really old and is not as good as it sounds , the “lake” had evaporated due to the scorching heat.

The author was able to make the reader’s visualize and infer how barren the flatland actually was. And in general, the second chapter, it show us how, “Camp Green Lake,” isn’t a choice of a summer camp, it’s a detention camp, with Stanley (the main character falsely accused of a crime), could be sent to jail, OR the Camp. And Stanley, being with a poor family and bot having any experiences with this, or any camp, thought it would be like a fun, summer camp. So, in conclusion, the author was able to keep us, the readers, invested already, by already diving deep and describing and making us visualize the setting and the plot Stanley was getting into.
