Wild HorseFeathers

While Wild Horsefeathers is no longer in business, it was my absolute favorite company as a small child. When you're the horse crazy girl growing up, it's always nice to find a company that seems to understand you. All of their advertisements started out with "We bet you know one little girl who..." and finished with something horsey. I had them cut out and taped all over my bedroom walls. The whole point of their company was to create horse-crazy products for horse-crazy girls. While children obviously can't order these things for themselves, it's important that parents are appealed to as well. It was a very wholesome company that made cute things at a reasonable price. Definitely appealing to the parents too.

Two Different Ads

The first thing that came to mind when I was asked to find two products that are similar but advertised to very different people, was bras. For example: Playtex advertises to "real, everyday" people. Their ads are very light and happy. Victoria's Secret on the other hand, makes their ads dark and uses sex appeal to sell their product. Both are bras but they're advertised very differently.

Creative IMC Campaigns

I think one of the best IMC campaigns I've ever seen is Old Spice's The Man Your Man Could Smell Like campaign. I think it's really brilliant. It captured the attention of people all over the country and was talked about for weeks. I think it's really interesting that the target audience wasn't men. The target audience is women with a boyfriend, fiance or husband. I've included a link below to one of the commercials.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owGykVbfgUE

Good/Bad/Redesigned

The first thing I thought of when I heard I was supposed to redesign a questionable ad was BICs #HappyWomensDay campaign. They made some super questionable choices and the ads they put out, while questionable, didn't even portray what they were trying to do. So, I chose to redesign this ad. To do that, I used the same idea behind some of the other Women's empowerment ads I've seen before. The idea that "you play like a girl" or "you throw like a girl" isn't a bad thing. I simply changed the wording on the advertisement so that it was empowering instead of degrading.

For my good ad, I stumbled across the Faber Castell ad with the Dachshund. I think it's really cool how it moves from the dog to the pencil and gives the idea that the pencil is the same color as the dog.

I thought this ad was really really neat! It really captured my attention when I first saw it and it gets better the longer you look at it. It's an ad encouraging people to not drive while they're tired or drowsy. It shows a car above an eye with a mom pushing a stroller under it. If the eye were fully closed, the car would be colliding with the mom and stroller. The ad is showing that while he's awake, the mom and baby are alive, safe from the car, but if the eye were to close, even for a second, the car would hit the mom and her child.

So, I actually don't get cable and mostly just watch Netflix. I know there are a lot of other places to see ads but there aren't any I've seen recently that I was like "oh, yeah! That ad was great!". With that being said, my mom, aunt, sister and I have a running group message on Facebook. My aunt sent me this yesterday and I laughed really hard (I had a 102 degree fever and have been down with a nasty GI bug for the past three days so not too hard, but pretty hard). Other than the obvious reasons that it's funny, I thought it was interesting that it's targeting parents and not just children.

https://www.popsugar.com/moms/Alternative-Curse-Words-Moms-Who-Swear-43499465?utm_campaign=mobile_share&utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=moms
