How does this linked text set address issues involving equity and fairness regarding to women's rights and how will reading these texts impact my students?

This linked text set addresses issues involving equity and fairness in various ways. By examining the experiences snd looking through the lens of a marginalized group (women), we are able to understand what women in the United States had to go overcome throughout history and still have to go through to be treated equally and fairly. This text set highlights the struggles women face in achieving equal treatment and emphasizes the importance of fairness for all, regardless of appearance, background, or abilities. This social justice text set even encompass challenges that other groups have had to face that find themselves in more than one minatory category. Different marginalized groups such as people of color, minority women, LGBTQ+, low-income individuals, the disabled, and many more have had to go through the same issues and hardships that women in the States have had to overcome and still overcome. People come from all different kinds of cultures, families, and backgrounds, and those differences should be respected and celebrated. Promoting inclusivity, empathy, and justice ensures that everyone has the opportunity to thrive and live with dignity and respect, fostering a more equitable world for future generations.

This book is a biography about Clara Lemlich, a young immigrant girl who comes to New York with her family and becomes a garment worker, working alongside other immigrant girls to make clothing. Everyone that works with Clara is underpaid, and Clara persuades everyone around her to fight for their rights and better pay. This book connects to my essential questions because this clearly depicts a woman (child in this case) being treated unfairly in the workplace and showing why and how she fought for her rights.

Chelsea Clinton introduces children who are feminists, mini activists and other little kids who are ready to to follow the footsteps of thirteen inspirational women who never took no for an answer, and who always, inevitably and without fail, persisted. This book relates heavily to my theme and essential questions, but also to my geared audience, which is a second grade classroom. This book is easily digestible for the age group but also evokes great conversation to the topic.

This also exposed students to the different kind of rights different kind fo women had to fight for, bringing up the discussion of how hard some women had to fight compared to others.

Rosie the Riveter is a United States icon for women who were working during World War II. Yes, students may think that its so far away, but you could use this propoganda to explain to students what it was like for many women to not be allowed to work, speaking on the how unfair it was to not be at will. This could then lead into the conversation of the civil rights movement, correlating with the theme and essential questions of this text set.

This book encompasses the journeys of many kinds of women, there never being a sole face for what women's rights may look like.

Many people, especially students in the second grade, will already have prior knowledge to who Harriet Tubman is, being one of the faces for freedom and having human rights. But, in this book, I wanted to show students that these women who fought for rights are still people who have hopes, fears, dreams, and wants. A lot of the time when talking about history and current events, people tend to disassociate the person from what they do/are known for. I want to mitigate that as soon as possible, wanting students to feel empathy and apathy for those that put their lives on the line for many people to be able to live the way they can.

To end off this text set, I decided to add a text that encompasses the lives of women after many hardships, wanting to show that women are still fighting to be heard, just, and equal to their counterparts 'til this day. This aligns with my essential questions and theme because it showcases women in a STEM field, a field that they had previously just had to fight to be in, only to be overlooked when giving credit for the space race.
