But, I thought why not do it at a concert I was attending. I knew that this was something I would enjoy writing and I would find it challenging but fun. In the end, I decided to write about this subject because of my amazing experience at my first BTS concert in December of last year in Los Angeles. I met so many kind and unique people there, so I thought it would be an interesting ethnography essay to write about this community. BTS held four concerts in Las Vegas, Nevada on back to back weekends, all of which sold out in a few hours during presale. I took two of my field notes at the main merchandise booth outside the stadium. My last field note entry was an hour before the concert at my seats. The environment is so inspiring and I can see the joy in everyones eyes.

I've always felt akin to Lexi from Euphoria and while I was observing my environment during my shifts, it kind of reminded me why I really feel akin to her. But, from what I was able to observe, there was a great deal of unspoken respect for each other at the skatepark. I think I saw a lot of tolerance among the older skateboarders who had a better feel for the flow of the park, something I never really felt myself at the parks I frequented when I was a kid. Being in California and experiencing the skateboarding scene here has been such a refreshing experience. I'm very excited for the next couple of years!

I started out with the intention of drawing inspiration from ethnographic pieces like "Imillaskate" or "Growing Up Queer", but figured I would just focus on both quantitative and qualitative aspects of my field site(the gym) and see what happens. Within a matter of time the format of my paper kind of shaped itself. I appreciated this project because it was pleasantly out of the ordinary for an English course. I don't mind some good old fashioned literary analysis, but this assignment and its process ended up being more fulfilling than I had initially anticipated.

Patients have come here for about 25+ years  and tell the history of the building. I really enjoyed getting to know the patients point of view, the front office, back office and billing and coding work flow. Getting to see the work flow helped me better understand and prepare myself in my postpartum stage mentally and physically.  That way I can be ready to go back to working full-time after being out for 4 months.

It is one of the few natural lakes in California and as you can imagine there is a lot of history behind it to get where it is today. The picture above is the lake today but imagine it hundreds of years ago with just the trees, grass, and hillsides surrounding it. The park itself is beautiful and unlike any other in the city. It's surrounded by nature and wild animals. Every time I went everyone was friendly and seemed at peace surrounded by life. If any haven't visited the area I definitely recommend going with family or on your own. I observed and took note on other gym-goers at different times of the day to see if there was a difference in the environment, and I honestly did see a difference. As I took my field notes, I tried to focus my observations around what people were wearing, how they interacted with others, and whether or not they seemed confident while working out. I did some research on how certain factors, such as physical appearance, can cause people to fear being judged at the gym, and how people really don't judge others as much as we think they do. I chose to do my project on this church because I was already familiar with this field site. Over the course of this project, I got to know my community a lot better, and I paid attention to things I would normally not notice. For example, I actually took the time to observe how other people would act during mass when I would normally just stare straight ahead during the sermons. I also spoke with a couple of people about my project. 
After the project, I realized how important my community at St. Patrick’s is to me. I have known a lot of those people for almost 10 years, but I had never taken the time to talk to them about what religion means to them. I wouldn’t say I’ve always had the best relationship with religion, so it was nice to see other people’s perspectives.

I wanted to observe the people and animals that travel along and around the path. My paper explains the different interactions with nature I stumble across, as well as the few people I was lucky enough to have pass by me. The main take away from my observations was about the people and the research I did was helpful in understanding the bias that people have when taking the segment of path I observed. I realized later researching online about the path that the reason I was seeing so many more bikers than hikers was because many trails connect to this main path. I think that it is one of the most diverse communities in the area, and I set out to try and show just how diverse the community is. I didn't end up going in to any specific stories, but I did really enjoy the process. There is no shortage of inequality in the world right now, and I have no idea how to fix that. But I believe that the jiu jitsu community is one of the most welcoming. You can't "fake it till you make it" in jiu jitsu you have to work hard to learn and be able to apply the techniques. There isn't an amount of money that you can throw at it to make yourself better, you just have to train. I think that's what makes this community special in that it's an extremely level playing field. My studies were a somewhat depressing sight but i can tell the future of surfing is heading towards the right direction. Women seem to be watched heavily and held to a higher standard than any guy out in the water. I witness first hand a female being intentionally harassed and cut off by another surfer. It isn’t all looking down though 2022 has been a very inclusive and momentous year in the sport of surfing. This year is the first year that men and women are surfing all the same events and have equal spotlight. Not only that the first trans women has been allowed to compete professionally, not only that but she managed to win her first competition about a week ago. Liturgical music is not at all a popular topic. I'd love to think that my project is like "How Men and Women Use Language Differently in Their Lives and in the Classroom". But on second thought, I still have a lot of distance to cover to be anywhere close to that. Though there are shortcomings, I do appreciate the "look at your fish" aspect of the assignments a lot. At first, I was thinking if it's a good idea to observe this place for my project since I do not really go to the gym, but good thing I did because I have noticed and learned a lot. I talked about how many of the people in the gym were minding their own businesses like people were looking straight while doing their own preps. In the gym where I go to, most of them are young adults probably in their late 20's, but there are also few who are in their 40's and 50's.  Many of them are either doing cardio in the treadmill or lifting weights. I only saw couple of people who are in the bicycle area. All of the people in the gym are wiping the equipment they used before moving on the other ones and I only saw around 2 or 3 people who are wearing face mask because the gym is mask free if you are vaccinated. I also noticed that all of the people in the gym were wearing airpods, headphones, or earphones. I also saw few people bringing their own water bottles and take them wherever they go.

I visited Oahu during spring break for a few days. The Dole Plantation in Hawaii is where the company Dole was first started. I decided to choose this site because I have never been to a plantation before and I was curious about how they look and what the experience is like for tourists. While at the plantation I learned so much about Hawaii and its culture, and how pineapples are grown at the plantation. The picture I included is of pineapples that are still in an early growing stage. The pineapple industry is one of the biggest and most important businesses in Hawaii. I enjoyed doing this assignment and learning about the Dole Plantation.

I also highlighted the importance of discount chain stores in diverse communities as a place for people from all backgrounds to come together and shop safely, locally, and affordably. Therefore, I did my ethnography paper on badminton stadium. This is one of three sites I chose to observe because the place is one of the most common place for the Vietnamese- American teenagers to do sport. As I observed the high school scholars, in their sight was a reflection of determination and passion while practicing. That was when I realized that competitiveness was a part of their growing process. Their ambition to win is not totally a bad thing as it helps drive them to become a better version of themselves. I infer that from the youth, there is an endless energy and hope for the future Indies them. They are always energetic and motivated towards their goals. Despite the fact that I'm still at a young age, those teenagers really lit the positivity and optimism inside me. Besides that, I also saw how they interacted with each other during break. I've been going to this gym for a few years now since they moved all their equipment outside due to COVID-19. I knew how the people kind of operated at this gym. Everyones so young and young people usually aren't the most respectful to other people. It was interesting to me to see the multitude of different kinds of people who work out there though. I thought going in that the people there were kind of rude, but to my surprise I found some interesting characters. After speaking to some of the regulars, I've come to find that some of my best friends at the gym are popular influencers, ex-NFL players and even college athletes. Being around those people was contagious mentally and this assignment has only given me more time with those people.

I had a lot of fun diving into and immersing myself in the senior lifestyle. I learned all about the community and what it has to offer. I found it interesting to see what people did with their retirement. First Lindbergh Field, most know as San Diego International, then Brown Field Municipal Airport. Both with different operations but with a big and interesting community. The day I went it wasn't very busy, so it was hard to observe and respond to what people were doing since there was not that many people there, which is unusual. I'm very happy with the outcome though, I always had a hard time writing and thanks to professor Wendy Smith I was able to improve my writing skills and write a 8 page paper. Since I grew up going to swap meets, I knew what the experience was like as a shopper but never had I experienced what it was like being a vendor. I enjoyed doing this project because it helped me discover the lifestyle of vendors working in the swap meet and learn more about the people of my race. However, I enjoyed doing this project step by step and doing a single bit each week until we reached the final result.
