On the middle/inside portion of this piece, the artist uses darker colors for the lingering smog around the city, and red/orange/yellow for the sky to represent the effect it has on the earth. The nature depicted around the perimeter features bushes, birds, animals, flowers, trees, pristine water... there is an obvious contrast between these two locations on the image. One side represents the horrors of pollution and the city and the other represents the pristine nature that is around the city.

In the center of the train tracks that lead into the city, there is a small sapling developing between the tracks. around it is a glistening light . The sapling itself is a brighter, more life-like green which to me represents the hope that nature will return and replenish/clean the damage we have made to the environment with our cities, innovations, climbing economies, increasing populations, infrastructure development etc...

Although I am unaware of who the artist is that created this piece, it represents social change through improving our environment. It does so by depicting a gross, polluted city surrounded by beautiful nature, with the hopes that someday we may make a change and shift our paradigm towards a more eco-friendly perspective.
